⚠️The new ERAS timeline for
#Match2024
has been released!⚠️
I remember looking at this timeline last year and wonder 💭 “What do these dates really mean? 🫠” This year, I want to explain it to you as I would have liked someone had explained it to me back then! 👇🏼🧵👇🏼
I certified my list weeks ago but I’m just posting this here because I have a recurring nightmare of not certifying my list and missing the
#Match2023
because of that. So here’s my proof and reminder that I did certify it!😂😁🤞🏼
Don’t panic if you are an IMG and don’t get interviews on the first days/week. I got my first one on 10/7/22 and my last one on 1/17/23 (fun fact: the last one was from the program I matched at 😉). Everything will be alright 💪🏼 you got this!

Today the ROL closes and feels like the end of an era. It’s been 2 years of preparation for the match and almost 10 years since I entered med school. I can’t explain how much this man has supported me through the process.I’m so grateful for my journey, let’s hope for the best🤞🏼💕
I have my first two interviews this week and couldn’t be more grateful, excited and nervous at the same time! Thanks to all the programs that saw my potential 🙏🏼✨Any advice? What has been the hardest question you’ve been asked so far?

Part of my process for

was getting

To my residency program,
I hope you were stoked to see my name today. I’ve been wanting to be a Pathologist for almost 7 years. I have a lot to learn, I’m pretty nervous… but I’m ready. I can’t wait to start this journey.
Cheers,
Your future PGY-1

Today is my last interview of the season! It’s been 2 months of hard work, I’ve grown so much personally and professionally, I’ve met incredible people along the way and learned about amazing programs! Couldn’t be more grateful!🥹 Making my rank list is gonna be so hard!
During one of my IVs one attending was like “Wow it’s impressive that for you your safe haven is 40 ft up the ground climbing a rock” and that only made me realize that it might sound crazy but yes 😝 up there I forget about my problems and just focus on what the next move is
I’ve had a few IVs in Spanish and when that happens it’s incredible how quick I connect with the interviewer- It’s like I’ve known them for years. It feels more like home and I am able to fully express myself. Besides, I feel I’m cooler in Spanish hehe 😉 1/

Pathways usually open between May/June each year. I would definitely try to take OET and Step 2 before or right after pathways open so that you can get ECFMG certified as soon as they open. Also when you get your certificate, I recommend that you take step 3. Best of luck!💕
@olsonplanner
I am an IMG and my school didn’t offer any prep for Steps. I paid for Kaplan and Uworld, didn’t have any formal tutor or anything, just asked friends that took the same path. Did fine! I passed step 1, 2CK and 3. Applied to residency and hopefully will match next week 🙏🏼😊
Today, one of my colleagues from medical school passed away because of Venezuela’s healthcare system crisis. Today, we are grieving 🖤💔 I cannot described this feeling. Oscar wherever you are, may you RIP ❤️ you left a mark on each one of us & you will be forever remembered!
The question about what makes me different from other candidates is so hard to answer. IDK the other candidates but I’m sure they’re stars.I like to start answering this question with“What I know I can bring into the table is my story, because that has made me who I am today” 🧵
I like rock climbing because in a way, it’s a mirror of life. You try,you fail, you stand up,you try again. In the climbing world, people post videos finishing their routes,but let’s normalize not finishing them and posting about it🧗🏻♀️here’s to a V4 I’m projecting.Progress is key!
“Back in Venezuela we had to test our creativity to be able to help patients with whatever we had around. I am curious and like to look for answers. That’s the mentality I plan to bring into my residency training.”
Anyone who’s interviewing candidates and you realize they share your same native language and you decide to interview them in your native language, if you’re reading this: THANK YOU! It’s amazing how much it helps. You have no idea the impact it has on the applicant✨🫶🏼
Join me today at 4 PM EST on my Live Q&A in Spanish and English about Pathology, USMLE, ECFMG, Match, etc, through

Instagram’s page 😃 see you soon!
I love the initiative of
@medgradwishlist
and as an IMG, I know how much effort we put into applying to residency positions outside of our home countries. If you would like to collaborate with my wishlist, please find the link below and in bio! 🙏🏼 thanks!
@SotoSoEdgar
🙌🏻absotulety!Congrats!🍾A similar situation happened to me.A doctor once told me to not waste money/time applying to Ivy League programs,that they will not consider me. Thank God I didn’t listen, wish he could see the IVs I’ve received so far! Always trust your gut & the process!
@path_girl88
I feel you! One of the things I value the most about my mentor (aka the person who taught me to love pathology and to look beyond what my eyes could see) is that she never wavered in showing empathy toward the real lives the diagnosis affected. 💕
Then I think about all the native English speakers that are probably able to connect instantly with the interviewers since the interviewers might be also native English speakers… 2/
“My story+background has made me adaptable, resilient, and motivates me to be the best version of myself. I like being challenged. I see challenges as an opportunity to grow and evolve”
@Hai_Tyler
I slept on an air mattress for almost a month when I moved to the US bc my mattress delivery got delayed. Things will get better eventually! 💙💙

Muchisimo éxito!! He estado en tu posición, y créeme, lo mejor está por venir. Sientete orgulloso de lo lejos que has llegado y recuerda: las notas no son todo, asi que si no obtienes el resultado que esperas, no todo esta perdido!
