General GRE is like 205$ Sending test-scores when you don't do it at test sites are 27$ Subject tests are another 150$ Any department who say they look for a diverse student body is a hypocrite when they have a GRE requirement.

All the malaria species I could find any information on. About ~240 species? Working on a manuscript and this new WIP figure is to show the diversity of the genus Plasmodium. Gonna have the data table available when I'm done organizing.

welp i just learned about the package {trelliscopejs}. Facet graphs in #ggplot2 are unreadable if you have like more than 10 facets (atleast for me). With the package you can like scroll throough all your faceted graphs! holy crap (from dev's example)

i think the dissemination of quantitative skills (coding, math, stats) in any EEB department is frankly very poor. People talk about journal club remedying that but I think we reaallly need a push for more interactive workshops or even like coding clubs

welp #rstats i made fun of tidyverse and the pipeline (%>%) a few years/months ago and grumbled about how unreadable the script was to me. well, I am very, very wrong. I get the pipeline now and I'm rewriting data-analysis code and it is 100x neater

As a postdoc, living in Ithaca was surprisingly expensive for what it is. Rent is super ridiculous for the terrible conditions the houses are in. It's a huge, huge source of stress from the grad students I talked to. Even living outside of Ithaca, it's still quite pricey!

my advice to incoming grad students is to start strength training and figure out how to sit properly. I fucked up my neck/back so bad from my horrible sitting posture in my 3rd year, I had to go to physical therapy and couldn't work for a month.
