my mlm romcom starring a trans boy who joins a secret boyfriend borrowing service and falls for their leader releases in stores today ๐ฅฒ
it may be goofy, but itโs also very honest about how i felt when i was younger. i hope you like it. look for these editions in your country!
sorry, thereโs already a queer story that uses a slightly similar premise, so weโre going to pass. anyways, have you seen that hallmark movie about a white business girl who goes home for christmas and falls for a local boy?
the fact that publishers don't regularly partner with their artists/authors to sell posters of their covers is such a hugely missed opportunity. like do you know how many posters i would've bought of my fave YA novels in high school and college? NOW AT 27?
logged onto an important publishing video call. realized i was wearing a sweatshirt that says "i slept with your mom." took sweatshirt off. t-shirt underneath says "i am above God." i am not cut out for this job
does harpercollins really not understand that authorsโfuture and presentโare witnessing this, and now the last place theyโll feel confident publishing with is the one leaving their employees out in the cold for weeks after asking for the bare minimum?
me: i write rom-coms for a living!
also me: the idea of being married is so weird like what if i'm having a sad moment late at night and wanna cry in bed and then there's just some guy there??
crying screaming throwing up bc my m/m YA rom-coms are being published with
@PenguinRandom
and coming to a bookstore near you in 2023 and 2024!
my debut, THE BORROW A BOYFRIEND CLUB, gave me confidence in my identity. i hope it does the same for others ๐

AGENTS HATED THE BORROW A BOYFRIEND CLUB SOOO MUCH Y'ALL. i queried for months and months. one agent even said they were "offended" i'd sent it because it "made no sense"
when i went on sub, several editors offered almost instantly. you NEVER know what's around the corner!
AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES HAS BEEN SENT OFF TO MY EDITOR
AAAHHHHHHH

i need to clear the air.
i did not name myself page because i write books. i have never changed my first name. it is an unfortunate coincidence
this has been weighing on me, so i want to publicly address that i am cringe but not that cringe
if you wanna know my mental state i accidentally sang "isabela your boyfriend's here" from we don't talk about bruno at full volume in a silent graduate course classroom
will forever go feral for characters who get close to the protagonist to betray them but oh no they got a bit too close and are surprised by the guilt they feel
publishing lows: a year ago, i planned to stop writing forever. i got into AMM, but the book went nowhere. i wrote another, but it was so bad i didn't query it. i got into Pitch Wars, but months were passing with no offers. i would've cried a lot if i weren't an alpha male
"love interests who are soft boys with blue eyes"
no. i want clowns. heath ledger confessing via marching band, absolutely brainless and out-of-control men.
well. it finally happened. an older white woman at a pharmacy refused to give me my testosterone prescription. in one of the bluest states in the US LMAOOO
thinking about the LGBTQ+ authors who paved the way before me, given unfair advances and told they weren't marketable
thanks to them newer authors like myself can be published more fairly now. things still aren't perfect, but they're better because of their voices ๐
on the day before my trans romcom releases in stores, iโm recalling the publishing professional who said this story would be great if it were about a "real boy"
anyway. the borrow a boyfriend club, which stars a TRANS BOY, is out sept. 12 or 14 depending on your country ๐
idk I lost 95% of my family when I came out and knew I would, which is why I held off for so long. the only place I could be myself back then was through writing queer stories
to anyone who isn't ready to come out, pls don't feel pressured bc of
#ownvoices
and write your stories
everyone: please make your rom-coms realistic
me, currently creating a character who carries a vial with โPoisonโ on it and no one knows if itโs real or fake: ok
BEGGING publishers to name their cover illustrators in more places but an inner flap. why can't it be in your online product details? i should not have to BUY a copy to know
this is it. the moment i've been waiting for since i was a kid. to be rejected from the
@goodreads
author program as a traditionally published author.
many have come before me. many will come after me. it is an honor and a privilege.
update: my debut YA romcom, THE BORROW A BOYFRIEND CLUB, will now release in September 2023!
I'm so excited to share more soon about this high school boy who masters romance to join his school's illustrious club and falls for the club's prickly president ๐
โTHE ENDโ HAS BEEN WRITTEN!
AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES, my second m/m rom-com, is DONE ๐
this was the hardest story to write so far. mainly because the protagonist is so confident in his identity. iโm thankful to him for inspiring me.
itโs on goodreads!
today i was asked to spell my last name over the phone with words but i never learned the "e as in elephant" stuff so i said "P as in pooh bear O as in owl W as in win A as in asphalt R as in racecar S as in sus" and somehow she didn't have questions
guess what? my YA rom-coms are coming to the UK!
thanks
@TigWallace
and the
@HachetteKids
team! iโm so thrilled these books found a perfect home with you.
goodreads:
on a serious note, this trans day of visibility i'm working on 3 projects, some announced and some secret, all starring trans protagonists. last year i was about to give up on writing forever
i'm so thankful and can't wait to see where our communityโs stories go from here ๐
today I had my first doctor appointment since moving across the country and was so scared
BUT THE DOCTOR ENDED UP BEING QUEER AND HAS TONS OF TRANS FRIENDS AND RECOMMENDED TONS OF MEDICALLY SAFE PLACES ๐ญ
if this tweet gets 100 likes i'll make my author bio "i'm a writer, comedian, cook, chef, um, uh, businessman, ceo, boyfriend, son, father (of succulent), handsome, cool, a fuckboy, a lover, a fighter, a romantic, but most importantly, sick as hell"
HAPPY

my rom-com about a trans teen who joins a boyfriend borrowing service masquerading as an italian club to prove he's one of the guys, especially to its frustratingly handsome leader, IS IN STORES IN 1 MONTH?!!!
psst... hey... new cover blurb dropped ๐๏ธ
i'm definitely not freaking out and mason definitely didn't write the first trans YA book i ever read and i definitely wasn't obsessed with it in college
not to get emotionalโข๏ธ but seeing "grade level 7-9" on the borrow a boyfriend club means so much to me. older readers can def enjoy my debut, but this age range has been sort of forgotten on shelves lately
obligatory reminder that my MC is freshly 16! the cast is mostly 14-16!
today the book of my heart officially releases in stores across the UK, Australia, some of the EU, and more ๐ฅฒ
i hope you enjoy this heart-warming YA romcom about the ultimate secret club, a trans boy trying to fit in, and his complicated crush on the prickly club president!!!
if you think being an author is all fun and games please know that 3 seconds before joining a podcast today i took a sip from my coffee only to then find a dead roach inside of my mouth

YA rom-com, ERNEST BYRD: TYPICAL BOY, is about a trans boy who wants to join the Borrow a Boyfriend Club at school and the prickish club president he must romance to prove his boyfriend skills โจ
iโve studied other authorsโ arrow-pointy works of art for years now, so what better way to celebrate four months until THE BORROW A BOYFRIEND CLUB with my own ๐ซก
ONLY FOUR MONTHS?? HUH????
BUY A BOOK FOR TRANS YOUTH!
I don't often talk about how I came out as trans when I was youngโmostly because it wasn't good. That's why I'm passionate about getting my joyful trans YA romcom to teens in similar spots, especially with book bans and recent laws.
