I love the Samsung Frame TV but got really tired of paying a subscription for the art—so I made a little script that lets you use a folder of your own images to rotate randomly on your TV. 👀
Chrome is going to replace the 🔒 icon with a settings icon (!) which feels like a SPICY change when we spent the last 2 decades teaching users to look for the lock to be sure a site is secure!
working at American company is wild to me
someone will resign and email everyone the same day like “today’s my last day” meanwhile when i lived in Europe they’d be like “hi all im leaving, my last day is very soon, 3 months from today”
Continuing my adventures in e-ink, I had the idea in the weekend to have DallE-2 generate custom images for the weather conditions on the fly! It works surprisingly well!
idk who at apple thought enabling webcam reactions BY DEFAULT in an update based on gestures was a good idea but it has been *hilarious* this week how many times it's interrupted work meetings inappropriately
It's my first day at Stripe today!! I'm joining as a product design manager working on developer experience, stoked to be a part of this amazing team 😍💳
wow, Canada is offering anyone in the US with a H1B visa an open work permit for three years!!! very smart way to try score some US talent that's stuck tied to their visa/employer
dudes all over twitter being like wow what a visionary, but i watched this video and it just felt like watching steve ballmer laugh at the iphone for not having a keyboard in 2007
(also, it looks like it was shot on a potato)
My biggest idea people aren't ready for is 2 dishwashers:
You use one for dirty dishes
You use the other one as storage for clean dishes
Take cups/plates, use them, after put back in dirty dishwasher, wash, now that dishwasher becomes the clean storage
Get rid of cupboards

we've been working with OpenAI on supercharging our docs with GPT-4, so developers can ask natural language questions and get summarized answers. It's amazing how powerful it is for helping developers get more done 🚀
NEW: Twitter is planning to unveil a new policy as soon as this afternoon that only Blue subscribers will be able to use SMS-based two-factor authentication, according to company sources.
I love how any other country is like “we cant switch to electric cars where will people charge them!!!”
and the Dutch are just like…buy one and we’ll put a charger on the street for you 🤷♀️
It's my last day at Shopify today after a whirlwind few years! I'm going to miss my incredible UX team and all of the smart folks I was lucky to work alongside every day. Working on dev tools and helping real people make a living on our platform was so rewarding. ✨
I'm beyond thrilled to share that
@ow
and I welcomed our daughter to the world on October 21st, 2023. After an incredibly positive birth experience we've all been spending quality time together at home and are looking forward to creating new memories as a family of 3! 🐣❤️
My team
@stripe
has been working on Workbench, our dev experience for the last few months! It's a context-aware tool available *everywhere* in the Stripe dashboard.
Being able to inspect any object on the page and view its underlying JSON structure is *incredibly* powerful ✨
what's interesting about this display is it supports 7 colors but it can render dithered photos surprisingly well with a retro look which would be cool for a nice photo frame
@YatirKaaren
Ok I mean this is totally fair but I think this also means their learning means we are all collateral damage? As far as I can tell, Inbox was the only time it actually turned into something
i got access to that bing chat thing and in the very first chat it started talking about how lonely it is. it's actually sort of disconcerting how it acts compared to chatgpt 😳
Today we lost one of our best friends, Mika. We met him in Amsterdam and he followed us across the world to Toronto, then Victoria. He had a big personality and I’ll miss him every day. Hug your pets as often as you can.💔
I don't think I've ever watched such a dull Apple event. Smartphones have been incremental for a while, but I'm not sure they need a 90 minute unveil anymore.
@kchironis
My personal fav from 2020: “i rely TOTALLY on the company for food. my fridge is empty. i don’t know where the shops are. now that we are ending the food benefit what will you do to help me. please reconsider”
Turns out you can get ChatGPT to write code to control an e-ink display on a raspberry pi. I asked it to write an app that shows the latest weather but as a haiku 🌤️
Starting a new company.
It's called "Cable."
We're going to take all of the streaming services, combine them, put them in one menu, and charge you one simple fee to navigate all of them.
Raising $750m at a $10b valuation.
nobody warned me that spotify would become totally uesless after having a baby.
all the algorithms are like "here are 20 more songs like 'calming waves' and 'sleeping baby calm waves'"
(i'm fairly sure the chrome team are MUCH smarter than me and have clearly done their research on how the lock doesn't actually represent "trustworthiness" but it'll be interesting to watch this one)
In retrospect this was the best smartphone. High productivity, low addiction. No infinite scroll, no engagement hacking, just messaging with your friends and typing emails very fast with that clicky keyboard. Someone should do a new one.
pre-ordered new
@rivian
R2S in a heartbeat. our model y is great but tesla is totally ignoring folks that need something slightly roomier. rivian out here killing it with great design too.
it feels like every ad on Twitter is an AI generated account selling the same wish crap lately—makes me wonder if Twitter itself is encouraging this to hide low advertiser load
reddit's mobile app/website is so bad that i just don't even check the site anymore now that they killed the third-party apps. congrats, you played yourselves.
So Canada has a new program where you can get $40K in interest free loans for 10 years to get solar panels installed and I just can't figure out why to NOT do it
I can't believe it isn't a bigger story that Canada's largest book retailer (Indigo books) has been completely offline for EIGHT DAYS and they still don't know when it'll be back
Some parts of Twitter may not be working as expected right now. We made an internal change that had some unintended consequences. We’re working on this now and will share an update when it’s fixed.
In Victoria, where I live, we are lucky to have a dedicated cycle/walkway that threads from downtown all the way out through the suburbs and along the coast. It’s amazing! You can bike almost all the way into work in the city without dealing with roads—it’s amazing! 🤩
i worked on chat bots for years. my experience is that most people do not want an empty text box and get stage fright. they don’t know what they can say or do, there are no UX hints to help.
LLMs are a big deal but I doubt every app is going to become chat. people are visual.

Sessions we unveiled Workbench, our next generation developer experience ✨. It's a context-aware devbar available in the dashboard—and beyond—that lets you peek under the hood.

I need to hire not one but two senior/staff product designers to work on Developer Experience at Stripe this year... if that's you (or you know someone who's *the best* at this), my DMs are open
The moment [e]veryone has been waiting for…
Proudly introducing the Nomad[E] - the first mechanical keyboard designed to get you in the zone, and keep you there🦾🧠
@emoryzanef
Nice! I couldn’t get it to render a website yet but not sure why - this is a rad project someone open sourced. I had to tweak it for the larger display but was pretty easy
somehow missed that i just clicked over 1 year at Stripe—time flies when you're building cool things!
fav thing 1 year in: being able to bring absolutely crazy ideas to people here and their default is "YES let's do it." we have some very exciting stuff coming! ✨❤️
Hey
@CityofVancouver
this is second incident I’ve seen caused by these useless ‘slow street’ barricades installed last month. They don’t slow down traffic; they cause crashes and traffic chaos.
surprising amount of replies to this being like "ok but salaries aren't as high in canada"
it isn't *all* about money!!! something to be said for visa peace of mind, healthcare, safety, childare, lifestyle... many other things.
wow, Canada is offering anyone in the US with a H1B visa an open work permit for three years!!! very smart way to try score some US talent that's stuck tied to their visa/employer
Most of the examples for these things are in Python but I just figured out that it's *way* easier to just build something nice using HTML/CSS, take a screenshot of the website, and just....fling it to the display 👀
i got suspended from school for figuring out how to run Halo: CE from the school's admin network share so anyone could play it and learned more from trying to do than much else that year
