"Just one more shot"
Anyone who has ever dated, or was friends with a landscape photographer, knows that phrase well. As I'm leaving a location, it never fails that I'll see multiple scenes that I just need one more shot of. I took this as I was leaving the park, I'm glad I did.
Yosemite really is a magical place. This was a shot that I took after getting lost in Yosemite. It took me hours to finally find my car, prob walking about 45k according to my tracker. That was the second worst thing that happened that day but this scenery made me almost forget
There's a place in Sequoia National Park called Morrow Rock where there are warnings all over the place about lightning dangers because several people have been struck. The day I was there, it was intermittently snowing, so I didn't think much of the lightning signs posted along
I was incessantly pressing my shutter button, trying to catch the lightning from this storm. Ultimately, I failed to catch the lightning, but I still loved the photo. Now IDK if I would've liked it more even if I had captured it 🤷♂️.

Lines are an integral element of my photos. People ask me why I shoot mostly vertical, and the reason is it gives me plenty of space to use lines that lead you through or lead you to the subject like this wave at Cannon Beach. Btw Cannon Beach is absolutely beautiful, I highly
My drone got absolutely soaked trying to get this shot, but I had to keep trying. The mist was pretty relentless but whenever I see a scene that I think might help calm, inspire, excite, motivate, and grieve, then I feel like it's my obligation at that point to bring that photo
The ocean was so nice to give me a nice S curve leading line. I was crouched down for quite awhile trying to get the perfect one. What's a temporary thigh cramp when a photo is forever?
However, this is just another example why I prefer traditional photographers who don't use
Honestly, there's not much of a story behind this other than this barn that just makes me happy, lol. I drove by it, noticed the lovely hazy, golden light behind it, and made an abrupt U-turn.

I love scenes that have different layers that give you a sense of depth, and there was a lot of it here. This is why I like to shoot vertical more than landscape.

The desert is one of my favorite places to shoot, all of the textures and landscape shapes make it irresistible for a photographer. I had to desaturate the colors a little bit as the sunrise made the sand glow so much that it the camera couldn't pick up that color. If you haven't
This sky was absolutely insane at this incredible lighthouse, so I immediately think, "How can I make this photo stand out?" I grabbed my drone, and It just so happened that the reflection or shadow gave me a perfect one right around where the clouds meet to draw your eye in.

I caught this scene right after sunset because even with my best efforts and going way too fast to get here, I only arrived at sunset. I caught a couple photos at sunset, but blue hour is when I feel most at peace and can visualize the shot before I take it. This is quite common
The journey to get to this shot was nuts. It was 10 miles of non paved road. First, I accidentally ran over a roadrunner (RIP little buddy 😔). Then the road got so bad I thought the van was going to fall apart I almost turned around. Lastly, a gaggle of wild cows wouldn't get

I almost missed this scene. It's kind of a good lesson for life in general.
Heres another little experiment, I laid my camera on the ground in front of a few pebbles and used the 10 second timer. With the God rays along with the sun flair, this scene looked supernatural. It was one of those ones that I already knew was going to be epic.

At the time that I took this photo, the world was a lot more peaceful, but here's the narrative in my mind to why I photographed it.
This scene struck me as the ultimate battle of light vs. dark. Then, there was a secondary battle between blue and orange, blue being the ally of

I actually do kind of have a rule but it's a rule of 3s (not to be mistaken for the rule of thirds). If a scene has 1 standout feature, it's usually good, 2 standout features, then it's really good, but to be great it usually has to have 3 standout features.
There's obviously
Let's talk contrast. Look for it, it's everywhere and it's incredible. I saw this colorful orange tree surrounded by evergreens that had almost no color to it.
Now you might think I just cranked up the saturation of the tree but it's actually the opposite that's true. I
