eddie and steve's bad relationships with their fathers being such a cornerstone of each of their characters and them growing through that not only by babysitting the kids but by having a kid of their own and learning to be good dads together >>>
the funniest thing is when creators make an interesting character and then release them into the arms of the fans (who do infinitely more interesting things with that character) and then are like wait no i want them back and ruin it all
BETTER BY YOU, BETTER THAN ME:
the excessively long slow-burn steddie fic, in which eddie gets involved in the upside down from season one. things progress from there.
Finally, an LGBTQ+ series with no drugs, sex, or alcohol & hardly even a swear word. It was just a sweet, innocent, coming of age story about friendships and first love. The one so many of us have desperately needed for so long
no but genuinely, enough of 'canon' fanfiction. it's not canon enough to matter materially to the source material and also not fanfiction enough to be in any way subversive, so what's the point

one of my favourite things about steddie is the way they're so similar but different. like they both have this easy charisma and people look up to them and follow them but then steve's comes from an insecure desire to fit in while eddie's is a complete rejection of fitting in
they thought they were being soo smart with eddie's whole running away arc. like oh yeah what a genius move why don't you bash us over the head with it a few hundred more times so we get it. what a HEROIC NARRATIVE it's like a PLAY shall we call up the emmys you pricks

tempted to write the Really Long Fic where eddie's involved in the upside down stuff from s1 but steve is... steve in s1 so they sort of hate each other but as shit keeps happening every year they grow closer and closer until....
AND WE'RE BACK
volume two: heartbreaker begins with new faces in town, new problems for hawkins' working class, and something weird going on with will byers...

i really wrote a fic about a person trying to convince someone to live and in the end it wasn't any of their convincing that did it it was just the fact that they TRIED god i will never top this i peaked with the lathe
the problem with rewriting the whole of stranger things but keeping all the canon events means i have to actually make them make sense. i have to fill in the fucking plotholes without changing their consequences... christ
guys you do not need to explain to me the in-universe vectors of political climate and capitalist propaganda seeded right down to the cradle in reagan's america. i'm talking extra-textual consequences. modern reception. they make her a capitalist but they never UNPACK that...

steve's parents are so delicious to write. not because booo scary bad villains but because they're people with their own motivations and i can make those motivations up
in fact, they should never have introduced the russians in s3 to begin with. it was caricaturish and sloppy and lacked the menace of the us government, even in s4
