i'm sorry, were any of you recovering theater kids going to tell me that there is A DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS OFF-BROADWAY SHOW, OR WAS IT JUST SUPPOSED TO FIND OUT MYSELF?
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa finds out that former United States President Donald Trump has been shot while at the music festival NOS Alive (2024)
alright here's my take on the bullshit, a thread:
international fans aren't the ones keeping broadway alive, nor are those fans who can't afford to see shows.
like, seriously, think about it for like 0.5 seconds, okay? just— just bear with me.
theater kids how old were you when you found out the diagonalley sets were repurposed into the abc cafe in the les mis film because i think about at at least ten times a day
put ansel elgort in jail and reshoot the wss movie please i wanna support actors of color's careers but i feel so uncomfortable watching a movie with a sexual predator in it :)))
to conclude: stop demonizing bootlegs and painting them as the cause of broadway's death.
P.S.: Have you considered that maybe, juuuuuuust maybe, the business is dying because of exorbitant ticket prices and a lack of connection to the reality of your fans? no? thought so.
if six is getting a movie henry the eight better not be in it in any way shape or form i'm looking at you hollywood i know you wanna put james corden in everything but don't you dare lay a hand on six
so let's say you can afford to see broadway shows regularly. yeay, congrats! nothing wrong with that!
but since you can already afford to see those shows, you're probably not interested in bootlegs. why? because you can afford the entire experience, the live theater experience.
you're don't pass up the opportunity to see a show because you've already seen the bootleg. you pass up the opportunity to see a show because you literally cannot afford it.
you don't watch bootlegs because you're stingy and don't care about the live experience.
therefore by watching the bootleg, you're not taking money away from the business, because it's money that wouldn't have gone to the business anyhow.
like what, you're gonna tell me an international college student can afford to regularly see shows???
now say you're an international fan, like me and many others. to go nyc, you'd have to convince others to travel with you, to follow you on a trip most likely across an ocean that involves plane tickets, expensive accomodations and food, not to mention the actual tickets.
P.P.S.: and before you cry out that it's only natural theater be localized, remember pro-shots are a thing, and most of us would gladly sell their soul to see our favs' performance professionally filmed. just a tip.
you watch them because it is literally the only way you can enjoy theater. online communities are ESSENTIAL when it comes to supporting up and coming shows and performers— just look at six and how much it blew up.
and you're excluded from it all because of your location, OF ALL STUPID THINGS.
so naturally, you turn to bootlegs. why? because in the end, it doesn't make a difference. you were likely never going to see that show, because you're in a whole ass different continent.
therefore, it makes no sense for you to watch often poorly recordings of shows you can simply go see live, unless of course they're closed, or you're just bored and want to watch something or whatever.
THESE are the people keeping broadway alive.
which aren't cheap, by the way! during the 2018/2019 season, the price was 122! (source: )
but this isn't just you, it's also the people you're travelling with that you'll have to convince to watch a super expensive show.
by watching bootlegs, you're entering part of a community and feeling more included, and the louder that community is, the more likely others will hear about it, be curious, enjoy it, and therefore give shows more popularity and profit.
if you're lucky, they're also a theater fan and you can go crazy go stupid with the amount of shows you wanna attend.
if, like the majority, they aren't, they're likely not going to appreciate having to pull out 122 dollars to watch a show they likely have no interest in.
if you have to have pictures of boomers fake laughing outside your theater to convince people that your show is funny and they should see it, it's probably not that good of a show, nor is it that funny. just saying.
you're never going to be able to see it, or the actor that's always inspired you (looking at you, anastasia and christy altomare!)
you hear everyone talking about this and that swing, this and that reprise which aren't in the cast recording, their fav versions of the characters!
and the international fan, who is STILL going to make that same option because god knows it hurts to see all your friends at stagedoor and outside the marquees and there you are an ocean away (eh, hamilton pun) crying at three am because your favorite show just closed and +
if you're going to anastasia tomorrow, please please PLEASE give christy and john (and every cast member, really) the biggest, loudest, most long lasting standing ovation. show them how loved they are, for all of us that can't make it there.
if they do concede, you're at most gonna be watching one show, and one show only, because nobody's crazy enough to pay that amount again if they're not a big theater fan.
so now this person has invested more time, energy, and money into seeing a show than the regulars have.
physically i'm here but mentally i'm a debut soprano in the paris opera house reuniting with my childhood beau after being comforted by my blonde ballerina girlfriend
and yet, they were only able to support ONE show. and they're likely not going back to new york that soon, either.
so now we have a regular, who is still going to choose the live experience over bootlegs whenever they can.
@radcula
Como portuguesa não me orgulho nada disto e tenho nojo dos que fazem piadas racistas e depois chamam de humor negro. Muito amor pelo Brasil, afinal vocês são nossos irmãos ❤ Boa sorte no mundial!
if you act like you're
#woke
but claim theater is accessible you're a huge fucking hypocrite. international fans, fans with low income exist and disabled fans exist. if you're able to go see a show multiple times, that's great! but don't police people who can't bc that shit hurts
@itsborlebitch
person: hey, i live literally across the ocean and bootlegs have introduced me to theater, if i could pay to see your show i would, but unfortunately i can't! i still support and promote it tho :)
anit bootleg ppl: i'm calling the police and reporting you for the murder of bway
mutuals if y'all know anything about where i can find this boot.... i'm willing to suffer through **** ******* if it means getting to watch christy altomare in THAT quality
i don't understand people that don't stand for the national anthem. how can you not feel ANYTHING AT ALL while listening to the national anthem? i tear up, i get goosebumps, and get chills the moment i hear “heart don't fail me now, courage don't desert me"
if you're straight and you wanna talk to me during pride month you can venmo me ten dollars sorry it's the rules haley kiyoko herself came to me in a dream and told me as much

right??? i met her once at a con and the line was super short compared to Jason Isaacs', I felt bad for her :( And she seemed so happy when I told her I really liked Cho, and thought she was underrated, I don't think she gets that a lot which sucks bc she's a literal angel +
