The National Security and Intelligence Review Agency works to ensure that Canadians are safe and that our rights and freedoms are protected. Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the following appointments to the Agency:
Year five: In 2024, NSIRA published its first-ever Section 40 public interest report: Review of the dissemination of intelligence on People’s Republic of China political foreign interference, 2018-2023.

Year three: NSIRA launched a review arising from a 2020 Federal Court decision that found institutional failings by CSIS & Justice Canada – NSIRA’s first Ministerial Referral.

Year two: In 2020, NSIRA implemented new Rules of Procedure for its complaint investigations. In the same year, NSIRA’s Secretariat expanded from 30 to 58 employees, a year of significant growth for NSIRA.

Year one: In 2019, NSIRA marked a major milestone with the launch of its first interagency review that assessed the implementation of the 2017 Ministerial Direction on Avoiding Complicity in Mistreatment by Foreign Entities by several key government departments.
NSIRA released its review (redacted) of CSE’s Governance of Active and Defensive Cyber Operations.
