A woman with HIV can pass the virus to her baby during pregnancy or birth or through breast feeding. With medical interventions, a mother living with HIV can give birth to & raise an HIV negative baby. Expectant mothers should attend at least 4 clinic visits during a pregnancy.
We encourage all citizens to be tested for HIV and know their status with those newly diagnosed enrolled in treatment. The HIV treatment programme in Kenya is successful, with 86% of those on treatment achieving viral suppression by the end of 2021.
