There's a lot more noteworthy stuff in this letter... but I'm struck by this distinction between how AFOG and HAI talk about the "political" nature of their work:
this is noteworthy for a few reasons. google has been a close supporter of AFOG for years (as they say in their letter), providing intellectual and material resources. AFOG's partnership elevated my perception of google's commitment to credible, transparent, critical scholarship.
