The absolute ease with which my 10YO son just answered the barber’s ‘does your mum know you’re having your hair this short?’ question with ‘I don’t have a mum, I have two dads’ makes me incredibly proud. 🌈

Seeing a lot of posts about people feeling too old to publish first book as they’re over 40. I was 40 when my debut was published. It never occurred to me I was too old - I feel 40 and beyond is when a lot of writers get their shit together in a writing sense, tbh.

If you could burst from pride, I'd be dead. A poem my 10YO son wrote has been chosen for publication in a book showcasing talented young writers. His school entered it into a competition with over 10,000 entries. He hadn't mentioned it to us at all. Published poet at 10 😍

In other news, it's our 28 year anniversary today. I was 19 and my partner was 24 when we met... 28 years, 2 kids, 2 dogs (1 gone, 1 here and bloody mental) and a chilled out puss-cat later... I'd say we got pretty lucky.

Some handy advice from other half this morning after his trip to Waterstones: You need to stop writing contemporary fiction and start writing crime or sci-fi and fantasy. They get their own sections on the second floor whereas your books are just in ‘fiction’.

My partner is all right, I suppose 😍. Haven’t had a writer’s getaway for 2 years with Covid, so he’s bought me 3 days in a spa hotel writing in January to work on screenplay and book 4. Best present I’ve ever had to be honest. 👏😁🎉

When you're concerned you've been eating too much rubbish & have put on weight, I find the best way to combat this is to eat a cheese toastie, crisps and an entire 100g mint aero chocolate bar (500 calories on its own) for lunch. I'm on hand for more expert dietary tips & advice.

On a scale of 1 to ‘just got our French visas approved’, we just got our French visas approved. So I can now tell you that after 20 years, we are leaving sunny Brighton for the French Alps next week 😱 Kids are enrolled in local French schools. They don’t speak French yet 😱
