I'm a reporter!
But I'm covering
#YangGang
more actively now, so if you want updates from the campaign/tech side of things feel free to follow.
Doing my part to end the
#YangMediaBlackout
. Crazy that a candidate with his polling/ideas/supporters doesn't get more coverage.
I'm looking into doing a deep dive on how
@AndrewYang
has used technology effectively to rise in the polls despite relative lack of coverage. Any thoughts,
#YangGang
, on what has been most powerful for you?
One of the most fascinating things about this election is how
@AndrewYang
and the
#YangGang
has changed the conversation about money in politics: from a boogeyman to a potentially positive force.
My piece
@ozy
:
Basically singlehandedly,
#YangGang
supporters have risen an electability argument for their candidate to the top of Twitter.
That's organizing power, even if traditional platforms struggle to recognize it.
And Yang jumps on stage as
@RiversCuomo
finishes his last song. Chants of Andrew Yang and
#YangGang
"You don't look like the fucking internet to me!" He says. "I am glad the weather is shit, because it shows what you are made of.'
#IACaucus
I’m not technical, but I feel like the whole “every app is going to have its own layer” thesis lends itself much more to
@avax
than
@ethereum
… so why is my timeline not giving
@avax
its flowers?
Maybe it’s because I’m mostly in the BTC space, but my feed seems weirdly quiet
When talking about the threat of automation, the damage which
@JebBush

@AndrewYang

@carloswatson
@ozy
After
#YangBeatsTrump
chants break out, Yang asks for applause for the Trump voters in the audieince. "The fact is, disaffected Trump voters count double!"
Hard to imagine another
#IACaucus
candidate saying that, but it works for him.
#YANGAPALOOZA
#LJ19
In the last week, I've twice witnessed the
#YangGang
's ability to get topics trending on Twitter, with
#YangBeatsTrump
and
#YangMediaBlackout
.
Twitter isn't real life, but politicians, reporters and policy folks are disproportionately here. It matters.
Thinking of all the OZY journalists, some of the most hardworking, passionate and ethical people I know, whose talent was so often used and abused until they burnt out and left.
If today's news is somehow held against them, it will be stacking one injustice upon another.
"As someone who has run a business, I know that our current health care system makes it harder to hire people,"
@AndrewYang
"I am Asian, so I know a lot of doctors. And they tell me they spend a lot of time on paperwork, avoiding being sued and navigating insurance bureaucracy."
An attendee, who is studying machine learning (ie. how to craft artificial intelligence algorithms) says he loves what
#FreedomDividend
will do for rural areas in
#IACaucus
.
Asks Yang about how to reverse effects of farm monopolization
Part of what makes me think Yang is a likely cabinet pick (if he doesn't win the nomination) is that nearly every candidate seems to not just like him, but have a genuine relationship with him.
Was with
@AndrewYang
when
@BetoORourke
tweeted that he’s dropping out. He said It’s disappointing because you know you feel a kin ship with other candidates when you’re in the race with them but I’m sure Beto will do great things for Texas and the country in the days to come.”
Many of us have stories like this, but have been afraid to speak up. It's important to me that Eva, who has been incredibly brave, not stand alone.
I left OZY in June after 6 years, after coming down with shingles while working 12-15 hours/day for a month with very little sleep
Audience says what they would spend the

To which Yang responds: "Ah yes, my hidden sponsor, the Bermuda tourism bureau."

Hey
#YangGang
-- I'll be at the

@AndrewYang

If you could ask a few questions, what would you ask?
@patrickhealynyt
Screw anyone in this thread calling for
@elainaplott
's head. She is a great reporter, who works her ass off and, as all of us in this election, is under extreme pressure. She made a mistake. Difference between journalists and propagandists is we actually correct them, publicly.
So funny story: the

calling it Trump's biggest advocate this week, has shifted its online FB spending to another page that conceals its involvement.

@AndrewYang
says.
@AndrewYang
How to fix it? Give people a share in the economy, rather than having people be cash-strapped, unable to have a say because too busy focused on survival.
"Monsanto is a bad actor. Unfortunately every industry has its Monsanto."

You know what, probably best for Biden's health not to try to this.

"Why are we losing to the fossil fuel companies? The NRA?"
@AndrewYang

"My proposal is we give every American $100 democracy dollars."

While Facebook and Google can try to add transparency around ad spending, dubious media and for-profit companies can still easily skirt their processes...creating situations where readers don't know the source of the information being fed into their feeds.

So Yang is polling between 5th to 7th in most
#Election2020
polls.
Yet so far, he has the least speaking time. And to my memory, not a single question has been directed at him so far in (his health care response came from him jumping in)
#DemDebate
#YangMediaBlackout
When he mentions Monsanto, Yang laughs: "That company is so evil. They're so bad." Gets chuckles.
Says we make it easy to buy cheap, bad food.
"My older son loves McDonanlds. He calls it Old McDonalds. I grew up in the 80s: I LOVE McDonalds."
"Our data is now worth more than oil,"
@AndrewYang
says. "Raise your hand if you got your data check in the mail."
Says that money instead went to big tech companies like Amazon. Earning that money, he says, would mean retiring with dignity, or less arguments with loved ones.
Last September, I called Tara McGowan "The Democrats' Most Dangerous Digital Strategist." I did so because I thought her non-profit tech model could upend politics as we know it.
I was right. Only, not in the way I expected.

Poll Q's reflect interests of the pollsters. I'd reach out to CBS and write some of your feelings about Yang.
Because they get limited questions, they ask about top polling candidates first (Yang still close to 3% in most nationals). Bloomberg because he's new, I'm guessing

I'm going to step away from the stump speech for a second just to note Yang's speech style.
He prefers a q-and-a type, Socratic approach. He asks the audience to answer questions he raises. He actually waits for them to respond. It's professorial.
#YangGang
#IACaucus
We in the media biz really need to stop asking if candidates "are electable"?
Nobody thought Trump was. The voters decide. We can forecast where candidates may struggle (regionallly, demographically). But give people the facts, and let voters decide what is "electable"

I'd be interested to see

He's published policies on some of this stuff of course, but would love to see more.

Honestly, all real love for yall. I’m building our use case on Bitcoin but love the use cases you guys are enabling.
OZY should cease to exist.
But the journalism — by some of the smartest, most ethical, hardworking reporters I've met under intense pressure — should live on.

Cuyahoga County ... somehow saw lower turnout (54 percent) and 10,000 fewer voters than in 2016. “We didn’t have the capacity or resources because they’re giving them all to the white women groups to have wine parties,” Sykes said before the election.

OZY gave me so much: I wrote deep features and investigative pieces, covered 2 presidential elections and reported from 6 continents and all 50 states.
But it also took far too much, from me and others. My experience isn't sad because it's unique. It's sad because it was common.
One thing for journalists: don't refer to children born to heroin-addicted parents as "born addicted." "Don’t label kids in a way that is scientifically inappropriate and socially stigmatizing,"

When the

"The biggest lie in America right now is that we do not have the money,"
@AndrewYang

Says that we never asked that question when it came to bailing out the banks. "It's time for us to build the trickle up economy"
In
