The Newport Beach Boat Parade will include fireworks displays during the opening ceremony tonight (Wed. Dec. 15) at 6:15 p.m., and during the closing ceremony on Sun. Dec. 19. Please keep your pets inside, as the noise and lights can be overwhelming to animals.

As of 3:20 p.m. Monday, Newport Beach’s beaches are temporarily closed due to the possibility of lightning strikes. The beaches will stay closed until weather conditions are deemed safe.

Update: The mountain lion reported in a residential area earlier this afternoon was located in the Port Streets area. A Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist was able to successfully tranquilize the lion. Fish and Wildlife personnel will relocate the animal.

Parking enforcement for street sweeping has been temporarily suspended. To accommodate those who park on the street and will be home due to the #Covid_19 response, the City of Newport Beach will temporarily suspend parking enforcement for street sweeping.

Beginning Monday, July 13, Back Bay Drive will be closed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for two weeks while crews clean up after a recent rock slide. Back Bay Drive will be open for pedestrians and bicyclists on weekends and after 4 p.m. on weekdays.

The entrance to Newport Harbor reopened Friday afternoon, October 8, following a five-day closure due to the oil spill. The Harbor entrance was closed Monday by order of the U.S. Coast Guard to help prevent oil from entering harbor waters. For more:
