If a picture is worth a 1000 words. A prototype is worth even more. Playing around with the idea of 'stacks' and adding depth to this design. Prototypes not only address if something works. But also how something "feels".

You build up your design muscle by doing lots of reps and practice. No different to becoming stronger by doing reps at the gym. You work on your biceps, quads, back etc. You become stronger at design by doing lots of reps with visual design, typography, grids, prototyping etc.

Yes autolayout, components, variants and all that jazz is great. But.... Good storytelling A focus on typography A focus on imagery and art direction A good grid and alignment Structure and hierarchy Don't sleep on these things. The fundamentals can help you go a long way.

Any other designers relate? Designing 90% of the work = 8 hours. Designing the last 10% = 2 weeks. The refinement stage is brutal haha. Design craft is a fight against perfectionism and enough. But that refinement is what turns things from good to great.

Design is a messy process. It's not linear it's asynchronous. It's not strategy > research > IA > wires > user testing > hifi concepts > prototyping > testing > iterate > polish > systemise > build. All neatly done at each stage. It's everything with a lot of fuckery in between.
