“Travis Scott’s takeover of Fortnite… if we could do that with Joe Biden [for the convention], Joe Biden projected over the Grand Canyon” — Lis Smith, democratic strategist, on politico live
Two grad students and a postdoc were arrested in Cali for using sidewalk chalk to write slogans like "Living Wage Now" a month ago and charged with FELONY vandalism:
41 protesters arrested in DC last night have been charged with felony rioting.
Weird thing is there hadn’t been anyone arrested since July 16 and no groups since July 7, when 11 people were arrested.

@Shut_downAmazon
responds: "It sounds like you’re talking about more of the companies and businesses in your speech but you forgot that the people are ones who make these companies operate."
Sean O'Brien,
@Teamsters
Prez, on tax breaks for Amazon: "You don't take a beating from a bully and then fill his pockets with money and expect fewer beatings"
Gushers wouldn’t be Gushers without the Black community and your voices. We’re working with
@fruitbythefoot
on creating space to amplify that. We see you. We stand with you.
I have never posted a picture of my child on Twitter but I woke up today feeling hatred for the politicians and corporate execs who don’t care to make his life or the earth livable. Here he is, in the hope that some of the politicians who follow me will feel guilty and ashamed.

@Shut_downAmazon
: "Amazon flies in union busters, they isolate workers every single day, they question them, gaslight them, acting like the'yre working to improve conditions. But really they’re just polling who supports the union and reporting back"
Princeton University just announced “difficult reductions” in light of coronavirus pandemic. These include:
-“Suspending faculty and staff salary increases, except where required by previous agreement”
Reporter: "So the sense is things are going well [at the White House], there's no need for change right now?"
Jen Psaki: "We could certainly propose legislation to see if people support bunny rabbits and ice cream, but that wouldn't be very rewarding for the American people."
.
@LindseyGrahamSC
to
@SenSanders
: "Mr. Chairman I really enjoy working with you but wow this committee is taking a very dangerous turn under your leadership. ... You have decided Amazon is a piece of crap company."
"Imagine being a new hire at Amazon, your first day, you don't even know your job assignment yet, and they put you in an anti-union meeting" [quote not exact]
Reporters asked Press Secretary Jen Psaki why the administration isn't doing more to arm Ukraine. The Intercept's
@RyanGrim
asked what the U.S. is doing to push for peaceful negotiations.
at the Intercept we are committed to undoing the prevailing economic narrative. the good news is that financial dudes are extremely blunt and say what they mean so it's not hard to call them out
CEO of $3 billion real estate corporation recently told investors a recession could be "good" if "unemployment...puts employers back in the driver seat," per earnings call I found:
Very proud to publish this investigation into the death of Al Jazeera cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa at the hands of Israel. Al Jazeera plans to file a case on it at the ICC.
By the astute and accomplished Sharif Abdel Kouddous:
Extremely happy to announce I'll be joining
@theintercept
as senior politics editor in July! Very excited to cover 2020, et al, in the DC bureau with
@ryangrim
,
@MaryamSaleh
, and many excellent reporters. Smash that like button
A kid just came to our house for trick or treat and I asked him what his costume was and he said “I don’t have much of any costumes that fit me currently so I just found this bowl to put on my head”. It was actually the inside of a salad spinner
It’s so funny to me that political analysts typically call abortion a cultural issue ... as if having a child is economically neutral and financial insecurity isn’t a huge factor for women
👀 In April, Intercept posted a story featuring Amazon's Dave Clark. Yesterday,
@ewarren
and
@CoriBush
sent a letter demanding answers from Amazon about it. Today, Clark announces he's leaving Amazon:
I've had an incredible time at Amazon but it’s time for me to build again. It's what drives me. To all I've had the honor of working with: thank you for making it so much fun to come to work every day for 23 years to invent cool, amazing things for customers.

Today is my last day at The Intercept after just about 5 years. Much love to my colleagues who were laid off last week and much love to my colleagues who remain. I decided it is time for me to move on ~
Disturbing reporting by
@ryangrim
. Cuomo touted that you could drop a ballot in the mail on Election Day, now lots of those ballots are probably being thrown out
SCOOP: The Biden admin says it supports a Covid vaccine waiver, but I obtained a summary of a September 14 WTO meeting that shows the U.S. is dragging its feet & declining to support the India-South Africa vaccine waiver proposal as it stands. My latest.
As an aside, there is very poor turnout for this hearing. Only
@timkaine
and
@SenatorBraun
are here. Guess I shouldn't be surprised following yesterday's vote:
The weirdest (maybe?) part of the new pro-Biden super PAC by former top Bernie advisers is the name, "Future to Believe In." Where did that name come from, u ask?
I am extremely sad to lose my friend and colleague
@betsyreed2
to the Guardian US — but it also comes with some professional news for me: I'm becoming deputy editor of
@theintercept
under
@RogerDHodge
and I am very excited.
We have big plans for
@DropSiteNews
. Very excited to be launching this new, non-aligned, independent media outlet with
@ryangrim
and
@nausjcaa
. We already have some great stories in the pipeline. Spread the word:
if climate was declared an emergency, this is one of the things that could be stopped. national emergency allows the president to halt any export of agricultural commodity.
TIL that as the CO river dries up, AZ is leasing its largest underground aquifer to the Saudis, who are growing water-intensive alfalfa, which is then shipped back to S.A. to feed cattle. Market rate for the lease is $5 million/yr. Saudis pay $86K.
