Passing range: Kelechi doesn’t shy away from playing the hard ball. Longer diagonals seem to be a prominent part of his game, something he seems to do with great effect. With wingbacks in our current system I expect to see this trait carried over to Barnsley

Press Resistance/On Ball Ability: Standing at 6ft, Nwakali has a larger frame which he uses to his advantage. His on ball style is something I would best describe as Pogba-esque. This strength allows him to use his body to beat the press and advance the ball through the thirds.

To summarise: This is a player that had the world at his feet, one that doesn’t come around all too often for League 1 sides. Although it hasn’t worked out for him in his career so far, if we can as much as spark a glimmer of his past promise I think the team will reap rewards.

Probably one of my favourite moments from the game here. The way we set up here for the McAtee chance is what I expected to see all game. Connell and Phillips pushed up to provide a secondary press as Cole and McAtee close down the ball carrier the balls destination.

Hybrid Striker: The word that comes to mind when looking at Humphry’s is versatile. His larger stature allows him to hold off defenders, whilst still being surprisingly quick. He’s dual threat as both a back to goal striker, but also someone who can drive at opposition.

I saw minor improvements in parts of the game but overall it still wasn’t good enough. My overall thoughts on the match and this Barnsley side remain the same: A team oozing with quality are given a basic outline of how to play, a lack of concrete structure causes slip ups.

Russel or Hourihane would be put into the starting 11. Despite my belief that Russel has the assets to be a top midfielder at this level, I don’t see him as a starter for a side looking for promotion. Hourihane has undeniable quality, but does he have the legs to start?

We need this forward presence on Friday. Kane does brilliantly to pick out a poor pass from the keeper and McAtee again should be finishing the chance. On a different day this game could’ve had a much larger scoreline. Yet poor finishing inside the box has cost us 3 points.

Rotational Depth: Without including academy prospects such as Yoganathan, Barnsley currently have 5 fit midfielders. Clarke’s switch to a diamond in the middle now means that if one of those 5 were to get injured, options would suddenly become much shorter with this system

A final quick note on his shooting. The lad looks like he’s got a rocket of a right foot. From what’s available online he doesn’t shy away from the shot if it opens up. He isn’t afraid to shoot from free-kicks either, creating chances from second balls. This is one example 👇🏼

One strength of the back 3 is its ability to stretch the pitch. The example here in the buildup to the first goal displays how the holding midfielder (Connell) and both wingback stagger Northampton’s press. This allows MDG more time and space to play a decisive diagonal pass.

There is no part of his game that doesn’t add to the Barnsley team in some way or another. I’d almost describe him as a mix between Phillips and Connel. His ability to carry the ball and progress through the thirds is second to none and his goal statistics speak for themselves.

It’s almost frustrating to look at the amount of quality midfield options we have. Watching the game last night reinforced the fact that we need to bolster our options up front. Even more so with Jalo injured - who I thought (as always) made a huge impact when coming on.

The club needed to secure immediate promotion for them to maintain funding to remain a full-time professional organisation. Despite losing top scorer Matt Tubbs for a club record fee, he led his team to promotion via the playoffs in his first full season of management.

With these two additions we have the strongest midfield in the league. My only issue is the disproportionate amount of talent we have in the middle - matched by the lack of depth and quality both up front and at the back. It’s clear that there is still business to be done.

I think this trait to have is vital for League 1, a division where a lot of emphasis is put on transitional play. With many teams opting for a system that employs wingbacks, I can see these kinds of passes completely breaking apart sides, stretching the pitch to our benefit.

Set Pieces/Shooting: From what I can gather he also seems to take a lot of his teams set pieces. Although Barnsley aren’t in need of a dead ball specialist, Kelechi appears competent when delivering a ball. Something that will come to be useful if other takers are off the pitch.

Who is Matthew Craig & what should Barnsley fans expect? (🧵) Matthew Craig was one of my favourite players from the 23/24 campaign, as you’ve probably seen on my timeline, I’ve raved about him & you’ll see why in this thread! Hope you enjoy… #BarnsleyFC 🔴

Keillor-Dunn has been one of my most desired signings throughout summer. Securing the signature of a man with 31 goal contributions last season gives us a huge boost in terms of attacking output. He was a star for Mansfield, and I’m confident he can replicate that form with us.

Within the current 3-4-1-2 system, our wingbacks are employed higher up the pitch. Keillor-Dunn’s ability to break through the middle of the pitch could see us unleashing much more dangerous attacks. Pressure is drawn to the middle, leaving our wide men space to drive.

Summary: Though a long process with many ups and downs, Davis Keillor-Dunn is a red. In my opinion this signing is huge for the club. His general linkup play, along with the goals he provides will come as a huge boost to the squad. I’m extremely excited to see him play in Red.

A goal like this is hard to analyse. It’s so poor on so many accounts. Slow to press once the keeper releases the ball (though I wouldn’t blame that on Jalo) No presence in the air allows a free header. Lazy, naive defending that cost us 2 points and a 5th place spot.

A Career Overview: With a total of 272 career appearances and 109 goal contributions, DKD is a player that can create goals from anywhere. Despite the majority of his minutes coming from League 2, I’m extremely sire that he’s a player ready to take the next step up with us.
