Sammy the Seahawk wants to see YOU at the Day of Action!!
Yesterday at Senate, a motion was unanimously passed to grant academic amnesty for all students to exercise their right to protest on OCTOBER 2 and fight for funding to be returned to the university!!
After cancelling her planned visit to the CSF, students tried to get a meeting with President Timmons at her office. We were told she meets by appointment only, when asked how to make an appointment they had no answer.
We will be waiting, join us!
MUNSU would like to say farewell to a president who has caused irreparable harm during their term. Students will be recovering from the choices made under this administration for years to come. The students united will NEVER be defeated ✊✊

Our Chief Risk Officer directly silenced students, directly threatening to prevent Undergraduate Students to have their union in meeting spaces.
THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS
We’ve now gotten confirmation that not a single Minister or representative of the provincial government will be attending our Student Town Hall. The provincial govt is willing to double tuition to students but not willing to show up and explain why.
The MUNSU Exec has invited government leaders and university administration to a Student Town Hall to take place on Wednesday, April 26th, 7pm

We know students are anxious to find out what happens next.
@MUNFaculty
will discuss w/ their members & update as soon as they can. We encourage folks to rest, recharge and celebrate the work our community has brought forward during this strike action
BREAKING: .
@memorialu
Chief Risk Officer has threatened to remove MUNSU undergrad students from all Senate decision-making committees, where students are mandated to be to ensure students voices are heard at the university
@MUNFaculty
@GSUMUN
Dr. Timmons has referred to MUNFA’s unpaid salaries during the strike as “savings” for the university, & that it would equal to less than an expected 4mill from dropped courses. Clearly, the administration sees MUNFA salaries as profit to weigh out their unbalanced spending.
MUNSU has submitted the attached motion to be heard during tomorrow's meeting of the Senate.
We are calling on
@MUNFaculty
to extend the vocal support & solidarity that students brought forward during this strike action as we call for protections for our student membership 1/4
Yesterday, MUNSU delivered a letter to Dr. Bose,
@VPR_Memorial
.
In the event of strike,
@MemorialU
is forcing their students, staff and faculty to cross the picket line. It is a gross misuse of power for the university to be forcing division within the community.
MUNSU stands in solidarity with MUNFA and joins their calls for a fair and equitable deal from
@MemorialU
. MUNSU will be joining the picket lines in the event of a strike action a will put forth every effort to coordinate collective action and solidarity among MUNSU members
This is how students were met at the press conference re skyrocketing tuition fees. We’re locked out.
@vianne_timmons
this is outrageous and completely unacceptable. Is this why you met with us prior? To shut students out of MORE spaces?
Winter break was a fight the student union won as a part of our Mental Health Matters campaign.
The best thing for students’ mental health? Come to a
#FairDealAtMUN
now.
It is false and misleading for the MUNFA president to say winter break is going ahead as a negotiating tactic. Winter break is important for students and instructors whose courses are continuing. We provided that info on Feb. 2 to allow time to plan for that break in the semester
Don’t forgot that
@MemorialU
introduced the campus renewal fee and student services fee in 2017 amounting to a 23% increase for domestic students. Since then campus has continued to crumble and access to services like mental health supports are being capped instead of expanded.
This headline is misleading
The student union is concerned with
@MemorialU
’s inability to come to a fair deal with
@MUNFaculty
Students and faculty will not be pitted against each other, we are united in the fight for fair, accessible, and quality education
ATTN:
@MemorialU
students! If you are scared or nervous to be walking to, from or on campus right now, send us a message. We will coordinate safe transportation for you.
The students united will never be defeated. There is no space for hate at MUNL.
Our President is FAILING this university. Students, faculty, staff and community are being left in the cold by this leadership. Students are clear, we want effective leadership and we want a FAIR DEAL NOW

strike
A recommendation passed through senate for the Board of Regents to vote yes to tuition fee refunds for time lost
📢 Tell them to vote it into action:
Students are anxiously awaiting an update on tuition refunds from the
@MemorialU
Board of Regents
We received confirmation on Friday that a decision had been made during Thursday’s meeting but that we would have to wait for formal correspondence to be released
Where is it?
Our so-called
@MemorialU
leadership are spreading misinformation about academic amnesty during strike action. We have been calling for academic amnesty for students impacted by the strike action. Dr. Timmons, as chair to Senate, had every ability to call an emergency meeting
To make up for funding cuts of 30% would require TRIPLING tuition fees to over $7000/yr. Making education less accessible hurts everyone. Quality goes down. Debt goes up. Enrollment goes down. Outmigration goes up. .
@vianne_timmons
pls show leadership and condemn this report.
MUNSU is calling on the Faculty of Medicine to publicly respond to this request and address these allegations of punitive actions against these whistleblowers...

Today, MUNSU stood with people from across our community in the fight against the rampant homophobia and transphobia spreading across this province. We stand united against hate and we stand with all of you against the bigotry being brought forward today and every day.
It was a negotiating tactic when you forced everyone on campus, including students, to cross picket lines. It was a negotiating tactic when you rejected MUNSU’s calls for a special meeting of Senate.
Do not pretend to care about students when you have put them in this position🪧
LUMUN and MUNSU stand together in solidarity
@LUMUN_NL
and MUNSU support
@MUNFaculty
's effort to obtain a fair and equitable agreement with MUNL's Administration and their ability to take strike action.
We are waiting for access to the proposed deal before commenting. For now, we will emphasize that students filled the picket in support of a new form of governance, we are calling for change. Our experience with MUNL committees has been hollow promises & reports that lead nowhere

2 reports in a week have called for the dismantling of high-quality, accessible, public post-secondary education in NL. We need an educated society now more than ever. Raising fees, cutting funding, and saddling a generation with student debt is not the answer.
