Dr. Timmons has referred to MUNFA’s unpaid salaries during the strike as “savings” for the university, & that it would equal to less than an expected 4mill from dropped courses. Clearly, the administration sees MUNFA salaries as profit to weigh out their unbalanced spending.

Don’t forgot that @MemorialU introduced the campus renewal fee and student services fee in 2017 amounting to a 23% increase for domestic students. Since then campus has continued to crumble and access to services like mental health supports are being capped instead of expanded.

Some students were approved to be observers for this online meeting of the Board of Regents. We were asked to leave before the non-consent agenda where tuition fees are discussed. We heard the president’s report & saw minutes get approved. So hats-off to the BoR on the trolling?

Student protestors came to the president’s office without notice. She was on an important virtual meeting in her office and was therefore unavailable.

1/6 @vianne_timmons says that MUN had no choice but to double tuition fees due to gov cuts. @TomOsborneMHA says MUN came to gov last year with a plan to double fees anyway. Our public university is under attack and the leaders attacking are scapegoating while students suffer.

The cognitive dissonance of @TomOsborneMHA claiming gov remains committed to accessible education is astounding. Just because it’s marginally cheaper here than other Atlantic unis doesn’t make it affordable or accessible. This comparison is elitist and a race to the bottom.

Yesterday, MUNSU and @MUNFaculty met with @PremierofNL to talk about the future of post-secondary education in this province. Also present at this meeting was @MemorialU 's Chancellor, President Bose, the Chair of the Board of Regents, among various other staff.

After declining our invitation to next week's Student Town Hall, MUNSU and @MUNFaculty received an invitation to meet with @PremierofNL today. We will urge him to reconsider taking up this opportunity to speak directly and publicly to students and @MemorialU 's wider community.

. @vianne_timmons you‘cave been vocal about it being a student’s job to protest. Students will be rallying tomorrow at 2 at Bannerman pk to resist funding cuts. We got approval yday to place banners around MUN and were shocked now to see them removed. Why not support our efforts?
