Being part of
#TeamCanada
means helping each other when we can. As nine health care workers from Newfoundland and Labrador head to Ontario this morning to help with COVID-19 relief - including my wife, Dr. Allison Furey - we are all proud of their commitment. Thank you!
This is my beautiful, brilliant wife Dr. Allison Furey. She’s been working in the COVID Assessment Unit, so got her COVID-19 vaccine today. Every day, she sets an example to be proud of — and I am who I am thanks to her love and support.
Great call with
@CanadianPM
@JustinTrudeau
today to discuss Newfoundland and Labrador’s offer to help Ontario at this difficult time, and how the federal government can support our efforts. Being a part of
#TeamCanada
means coming together - that’s the power of this federation.
This afternoon, in response to rapidly rising numbers of COVID-19 cases across Ontario, I reached out to Premiers
@FureyAndrew
,
@DennyKing
, and
@IainTRankin
. We spoke about how we can work together to help Ontarians get through this third wave.
Today has been really incredible.
Among all of the firsts, I have to say that playing a Motley Crüe song on the piano inside Government House, in front of the Hon. Lt.-Gov.
@judy_foote
was a special moment!
Our friends in Ontario are going through some tough times with COVID-19. I’ve just talked to Premier
@fordnation
about the severity of the situation, offering help from Newfoundland and Labrador. We will get through this, together, but we must all follow public health advice.
I continue to stand up for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians against the federal carbon tax.
I am now asking Ottawa to pause its planned increase to the carbon tax, set for April 1st, as the high cost of living is enough of a burden on families.
The full letter is here:
Wow. Thank you.
To my family, friends and dedicated team of volunteers.
To the Liberal Party - members, supporters, organizers, my opponent.
It's an honour to be your leader and this great province's next premier.
Together, it is our history to write. Let's get to work.
When the call went out for vaccination support, I was happy to put up my hand.
This COVID-19 booster clinic for current and retired public service employees and their families at the Confederation Building did 586 people yesterday, and we hope to do the same today.
Today, we made Newfoundland and Labrador history. This $5.2 BILLION announcement lets the people of our province breathe a sigh of relief, knowing their power bills will not double.
Thank you, PM
@JustinTrudeau
.
Talking to my wife, Allison, just before she starts her day at Toronto General - it means so much to us all that a doctor gets some much-needed rest thanks to her being there. And of course the same goes for the rest of our N.L. team on the COVID-19 frontline.
#TeamCanada
Big moment for Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and Ukraine as the first full flight of Ukrainian refugees arrives right here in our beautiful province. Welcome.

🇨🇦🇺🇦
Nice to speak with Prime Minister
@JustinTrudeau
today.
It’s great to hear he is looking forward to building on Newfoundland and Labrador’s relationship with our federal partners in Ottawa.
Honoured to witness the historic moment of the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccine arriving in Newfoundland and Labrador this morning with Health Minister
@Johnrockdoc
. This is an exciting day for our province, as we implement our government’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
Thank you, Newfoundland and Labrador! It’s an honour and a privilege to be our province’s 14th premier. Thank you to Allison, Maggie, Rachael, Mark, my whole family and team. Your support and dedication are everything. Congratulations to all parties, candidates, and teams.
I am truly honoured to have been sworn-in as the 14th Premier of the great province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
And to do so surrounded by family and friends, and the history of this place, is humbling.
Thank you, now let’s keep working.
My father has always been a role model, treating others with kindness and serving his province and country. Today, he retired from his role as Speaker of the Senate of Canada after a long and notable career, and his portrait will now hang in these halls. Congratulations, Dad!
There are so many people I want to thank following my first few days as Premier, but I would be remiss if I did not single out my wife, Allison. A loving partner, mother, daughter and caring, compassionate physician. Thank you so much for your support.
Proud to share that a second
#TeamNL
of health care professionals - three doctors and four registered nurses - is heading to Ontario tomorrow morning to offer their colleagues some COVID-19 relief just a week after the first team left. Thanks to everyone stepping up!
#TeamCanada
Emotional day in Newfoundland and Labrador as hundreds of people gather to pay their respects to our unknown First World War soldier. As next of kin, my family and I are honoured to represent our soldier’s family as he is finally returned home.
As a Canadian, I am proud to watch the Speaker of the Senate carry out the duties of the role.
As the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, I am proud to watch one of ours on the national stage, and welcome the President of the United States.
And as a son, I am proud of my Dad.
WOW! Are we all breathing or what? What a game,
@TeamGushue
looked unbelievably calm, cool and collected throughout. Talk about Newfoundland and Labrador resilience.
@MarkNichols_NL
's tweets kept us going.
Congratulations on your win, and to both teams on a hard fought battle!
Such an honour to officially welcome this group of Ukrainians to Newfoundland and Labrador, and to Canada. Thanks to everyone working hard to make this happen. 🇨🇦🇺🇦
COVID-19 sure is not partisan! When it comes to getting through the pandemic, we are stronger for working together. Happy to give
@NLNDP
Interim leader
@JimDinn
his booster dose today at the Confederation Building clinic.
Just finished my run for Breast Cancer in Deer Lake. Thinking of all those out there touched by cancer. Good luck to everyone doing the same today across the country. Working together to support finding a cure for cancer.
#runforthecure
40 years ago today Terry Fox was forced to end his Marathon of Hope, after starting out right here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
A true Canadian hero who was an inspiration then - and to this day.
Our entire province is so relieved to hear that the crew members of the Elite Navigator are safe. I'd like to thank everyone involved in the search and rescue efforts.
I know this Christmas is not going to look the same as other years, as we all follow COVID-19 guidelines. But it will certainly be memorable. Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
What a game!
Tonight we will find out who the
@CanadiensMTL
will face in the Stanley Cup Finals. The first time since 1993. Thanks
@francoislegault
for this timely gift to all Premiers!
#gohabsgo
He made us laugh. He made us cry. He brought our province to the world stage. He represented us in a way like no other. Thank you, Gordon Pinsent, for all you did for the arts, for Newfoundland and Labrador, and for our country. My condolences to his family and all who loved him.
An extra special time for me and my family as our daughter Maggie graduates from high school. I am so proud of all your accomplishments and can't wait to see what the future holds. The sky is the limit! To Maggie and all students graduating this week, congratulations!
A good conversation today with Prime Minister
@JustinTrudeau
.
The first of many conversations we will be having as our province moves forward within this great federation.
Congratulations to Newfoundland and Labrador’s Alex Newhook and Dawson Mercer on being named to Team Canada for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship. Wishing you all the best in this exciting accomplishment on behalf of the people of the province!
Happy Halloween, everyone! Beware of the spells from the Furey family of the Dark Arts. ⚡🧙♂️
Please be safe and drive with caution as there will be many trick-or-treaters out this evening. 🎃
Friends of NL across Canada and beyond: if there was ever a time to buy from your favourite NL retailers,restaurants,artists +performers in this province,we need your support!

a continued, extended state of emergency has compromised Jan sales for many.

Today is a very special one in our family. Please join me in wishing my amazing wife, Allison, a very happy birthday. She is an unbelievably smart, caring woman who treats her patients like family - and our family is lucky to have her in our lives. My rock. My heart.
We have lost our own gentle giant, a generous man whose dedication to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador ran deep. George Murphy left this world doing what he loved, enjoying life and spreading that joy. Our deepest condolences to Joy, his children, and grandchildren.
Congratulations to Dr. Janice Fitzgerald on this well-deserved recognition!
Our province is very lucky to have you as
@CMOH_NL
throughout this COVID-19 pandemic.
.
@CMOH_NL
is
@CFPCNL

Initially pursuing community medicine, she came to love family medicine, getting to know and care for her patients and their family as a whole.

Happy first day of school to all of the excited students, parents, teachers, staff, bus drivers - and everyone working hard to create a safe, supportive environment for students in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Especially these three, who make me proud to be their dad every day.
My first day on the job would not have been complete without a meeting with this province’s representative at the federal cabinet table.
Great to see Natural Resources Minister
@SeamusORegan
today.
What a great day for Newfoundland and Labrador. The first COVID-19 vaccines will be administered to dedicated frontline medical staff, who have gone above and beyond.
This day represents hope for us all in 2021.
Our government is pleased to learn the companies involved in the Terra Nova project decided to extend, as we are very supportive of the project given its benefit to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. We hope that families connected to it are breathing a sigh of relief!
It’s a very special day for our family! Wishing our bright, energetic, bundle of fun son Mark a very happy 10th birthday! It’s double digits for this prankster and my best bud - we love ya!
As a Premier, and as a doctor working with dedicated health care professionals, I am committed to improving the system.
Today in Ottawa, we collectively took a significant step in our work to enhance access - and Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will continue to see results.
Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are doing our part to fight climate change. I wrote Min.
@s_guilbeault
today regarding the federal government’s proposed increases to carbon pricing. Doing so at this time would have a severely negative impact on people in our province.
#nlpoli
This is Gary Crews. After 38 years with government as a carpenter, today is his last day. Gary has worked with all but two of NL’s 14 Premiers. I’d like to wish Gary all the best in his well-deserved retirement. Thank you for your commitment, Gary.
Congratulations Team Canada on bringing home the silver medal! 🥈
Know it's not the colour you were hoping for, but we are proud of how you've represented Canada at the 2023
@BKTtires
&
@oktire
World Men's Curling Championship.
#WMCC2023
Newfoundland and Labrador, we have reached a very significant milestone! 90% of those eligible have received BOTH doses of the COVID-19, looks like we’re the first province in the country to reach that goal!
Our community lost an amazing doctor and gentleman this week. And I lost a dear friend. Dr. Atamjit Gill made a huge contribution to women's health in our province, and around the world.
🙌 RNs stepping up - as they have since the pandemic began. Here are just a few from Branch 3 working at our swabbing clinics. Thank you Cathy Cake, Lori Roche, Frankie Walsh and Pam Hunt!
#COVID19nfld
What a fabulous weekend on the west coast. Great to spend a little time with friends and family hiking in Woody Point, Trout River, Cow Head and Gros Morne.
Spectacular scenery! We are so lucky to live in this beautiful province, and you folks have a special place over here.
Honoured today to be sworn in as the new MHA for Humber-Gros Morne and take my seat in the House of Assembly. Such a special day. Thanks to all who helped make this happen.
And it’s a bronze Olympic medal for Newfoundland and Labrador’s
@TeamGushue
!
We couldn’t be more proud of everything these athletes accomplished, and everything they represent. Congratulations! 🇨🇦🥉
We've been looking forward to this day, and it's here.
Newfoundland and Labrador, we did it! 75% of all eligible residents have had their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. There is still a lot of work to do so let's continue to be leaders and
#gettheshot
💉
Today we restart my campaign for the Leadership of the Liberal Party of N.L.
Here's a video showing more about me and what I stand for. I believe I am the leader this province needs, and I hope you'll support me.
#Furey2020
Thirty-nine years later, we honour the Ocean Ranger and the 84 people who didn’t make it home. I’m sure we all remember the moment we heard the news. Thinking of their families and loved ones today.
Happy 20th anniversary to my incredible wife and partner in life, Allison! Thanks to you, these years have been filled with adventure, laughter, and the joys of being parents to our three amazing kids. You are kind, patient, beautiful and brilliant - I really am a lucky guy.
The intimidation and harassment experienced by the Deputy Prime Minister and her staff are inexcusable and appalling.
No one deserves to be treated like this. You can disagree with someone’s politics with respect, and at the ballot box. This rhetoric has no place in Canada.
A huge congratulations is in order for Newfoundland and Labrador’s
@Verafin
as
@nasdaq
acquires the homegrown tech company.
The value of this $2.75B deal will strengthen the company as a centre of innovation and tech on the global scale - and highlights the talent here.
Thank you to the three doctors and four registered nurses from Newfoundland and Labrador heading to Ontario to offer COVID-19 support, just one week after the first team left. Thanks to everyone who is stepping up at this critical time - all happy to do what they can
#TeamCanada
Talk about a comeback. Thrilling to see St. John’s native Alex Newhook back in action tonight with
#TeamCanada
and Bay Roberts’ Dawson Mercer. And how about Newhook’s goal in the first minute! Great hockey, we’re all cheering you on here at home.
#WorldJuniors
Thank you, Prime Minister
@JustinTrudeau
, and thank you for your kind call this afternoon. We have a lot of important work ahead of us, looking forward to keeping it moving!
Congratulations on your re-election,
@FureyAndrew
. I’m looking forward to building on what we’ve accomplished over the past year, and continuing our work together to keep Newfoundlanders and Labradorians safe and supported during the pandemic - and beyond.
The Ukrainian flag will be flying at Confederation Building in support of Ukraine, and condemning Russia’s attack. The building will also be lit with blue and yellow lights.
Newfoundland and Labrador,

Just like that, this highly-anticipated moment has come. It’s amazing how one dose of a vaccine has so much meaning, and I sure am happy my turn has come. The Village Mall COVID-19 vaccination clinic was an impressive operation - thank you to everyone involved.

Today, Newfoundland and Labrador is making history. We are taking a major step forward thanks to collaboration with our federal partners - working together to build a brighter, better future for this province and this country. Looking forward to welcoming PM
@JustinTrudeau
!
As I said to PM
@JustinTrudeau
today, I support our federal government in invoking the Emergencies Act as laid out - with a time limit and to bolster response - to deal with unacceptable behaviour within blockades in our country, infringing on the rights of law-abiding Canadians.
When I think of
@TeamBrokenEarth
I think of the excitement and passion that Alison brought. Caring, compassionate, and fun both in Haiti and here at home.
I am struggling with words to express my grief.
You will be missed by all who were lucky to have known you.
On this day 16 years ago, Allison and I welcomed our first baby. Maggie came into our world and changed everything for the better - we are so lucky to be her parents. She is smart, beautiful, an incredibly talented singer and baker, and so much more. Happy birthday, Maggie!
Disney is coming to Newfoundland and Labrador! 🎥🎬
Walt Disney Pictures will be filming the live-action Peter Pan & Wendy, premiering on
@disneyplus
, right here in our province. This industry continues to thrive and we are so excited about what lies ahead!
Hard to believe our first born - our Maggie - is 15 years old today. I was still in school when she came along, and now here we are. Maggie is our smart, dog-loving, beautiful singer who can bake up a storm. Our world is so much better with her in it. Happy birthday, Maggie!
Our thoughts are with our Atlantic cousins as they deal with these forest fires. Newfoundland and Labrador water bombers are there, and I spoke with Premier
@TimHoustonNS
this morning to let him know we will be there to support however we can. Stay safe, Nova Scotia!
Thank you, Humber - Gros Morne.
Thank you to all of the volunteers, friends, and family for your support.
Congratulations to the three other candidates and their teams.
I look forward to continuing the strong
@nlliberals
representation of this beautiful district.
Who ya gonna call? If you're
@BradGushue
it might be your Premier
He talks about how a recommendation helped him get back into curling shape post-injury 🥌
Today is a very special one in our family. We’re celebrating our mom’s birthday. Incredible role model, supportive partner, caring mother and grandmother, I am lucky to be Karen Furey’s son. Happy birthday, mom, we love you!
Like so many families across this beautiful country, our family is spending today reflecting on Indigenous history. Talking about why we wear these orange shirts, how young children were taken from their homes to residential schools. By sharing, we learn, and work to do better.
Incredible! By the end of TODAY, Newfoundland and Labrador will have HALF the eligible population vaccinated with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Great work, everyone - please keep it up! Everyone age 12+ can get theirs now - register here:
Exciting day, Newfoundland and Labrador! We just reached 90% of all those eligible with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. And 82.5% of us have had both doses - more than 80% fully vaccinated. Great work, thank you for doing your part. Let’s keep going.
#GetVaccinated
This is an incredibly moving, historic, special, spiritual moment in our history.
Our collective son is being laid to rest, at home.
Thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to bring him, our province, and our country this honour.
Happy Thanksgiving!
We have so much to be grateful for. Especially quality time with my wonderful family, and the fresh, salty air here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
After careful consideration and consistently low prevalence of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador, it's time for the 2021 election. February 13th will be voting day. People deserve and desire a stable government with a mandate to work towards securing our collective future.
What an honour to visit with Sophie Flight this evening. She is celebrating her birthday. She’s 102. Sophie raised her family in Buchans, retired to Broad Cove and now lives in St John’s. I asked her to reveal her secret to a long life - she said she just doesn’t think about it!
Ok, I know I post this every year but here we go again my favourite Christmas pic.
For those worried the kids are traumatized and hate this pic, rest assured it is Maggie and Rachael’s favourite too.
Tis the season!
I'm super excited to share the cover of my new book with you, being released Oct. 6.
Hope in the Balance tells the story of how a simple idea from Newfoundland and Labrador continues to have a global impact.
Thanks to

We mourn the discovery of the buried remains of 215 children at the site of a former residential school for Indigenous children in British Columbia. To show our respect and honour them, the flags in front of Confederation Building will remain lowered to Friday - 215 hours.
She could write a book, but says she won’t. Brenda Warford has worked with 9 of this province’s 14 premiers, and today she is celebrating 20 years in the Premier’s Office on the 8th floor of the Confederation Building. Thank you for all your hard work.
Congratulations, Brenda.
Details are coming together for the Newfoundland and Labrador contingent of health care professionals heading to Ontario to offer COVID-19 help. Talking to Premier
@fordnation
over the weekend, and expect to provide an update tomorrow - looks like they’ll be on their way Tuesday!
