Dragging up two mini monsters in the Cornish countryside whilst trying to be a (un)perfect farming wife and mother. It involves a lot of mess, mud and mayhem.
@BlackadonFarm
is my new account which will be just for the farm. I may not post as regularly on there, as it is going to be a really busy couple of months for me (busier than normal).
This account will close at the end of this week (I may be able to bring it back later on)
Helen was between 10 and 12. She was a quiet, kind ewe, never caused any trouble. Reliable to the end. Looked exactly like her mum, Maud.
I ran down the field as fast as I could when I saw her down again. Looked into her eyes and just knew.
It was time to say goodbye.
We received our wool cheque this week: ยฃ95โฆ.
It cost us just over ยฃ200 to have the sheep sheared.
It took us an hour and a half round trip to deliver them to the wool board.
It cost us ยฃ15 in fuel.
It isnโt done for money.
Itโs simply done for the welfare of the sheep.

Helen has collapsed again for the third time. Clearly, something is very wrong. She is an old girl and I can't put her through any more. She's sat with her head in my lap, and I can hear and feel she's in pain. We've decided the kindest thing now is to put her to sleep.
Well, we're still here this morning! He's taken half a bottle of milk and been yelling on and off all night. Now he keeps trying to escape, so he will go out to the tame lamb pen for company, where we will keep a very close eye on him.
Today I've bought meat from a local butcher. He's a young lad (23) who's set up his own business. I know where the meat has come from (local farmer) and I'm prepared to eat less meat but better, local meat that makes a difference to my community.

Both my boys have birthdays in December.
Everyone likes to wink at us and say โeh, eh what happened there?โ
Iโll tell you.
It was the end of lambing.
Twice.
How we had energy I donโt know.
But anyway, We changed how we celebrate it.
We eat chocolate now.
๐๐๐
Sorry if I'm updating too much. I'm having to feed Junior every twenty minutes (he walks over to ask for it) as he cannot take much at once.
I've also got a dog and a cat competing for attention, too...
I forgot to post up a Maud pic from this morning. She moved the lambs so beautifully that Farmer went: "Well, we can never get rid of her, can we?"
And it caught in my throat a little - as she's my old girl, there won't be that many years left.
I'm always conscious of time โค๏ธ
Alongside our farm, we also run a 2 acre allotment site, welcoming people into our farm to grow their own. Our site has grown from the initial 12 plots in 2010 to 50 plots today.
We have made many new friends throughout the years because of our allotments.

We did it! Had to help. Bloody huge lamb, and he needed reviving as it was a hard pull to get him out.
She had 3 weeks to get Jiggy with Ramses the Ryeland.
She obviously slummed it with Steve the Suffolk in the last week, cos he's clearly not a Ryeland baby!
It's all kicking off this morning!
Helped farmer check the sheep, and I discovered a beautiful little lamb in one of the fields...
My breeding hogs have started lambing....
I'm not very assertive. I'm also very much a yes person.
Today, I said no to someone, "No, I'm sorry, I cannot do that"
And then, in my non assertive fashion, I ran from the room just in case of conflict.
But hey, it's a start, surely?
Farmer said yesterday only 6 days to go...
I asked what do you mean, its longer than that till Christmas
He goes: oh I'm not bothered by that.6 days till shortest day!
Apparently it's a farmer thing!
This lamb does my head in. It's not his fault, really.
He's two weeks old now and was one of a treble. We left him on mum for ten days. She was feeding him, but as they grew, she was struggling.
He won't take a bottle. He hates the machine. It takes a long time to feed him.
Gloria here is modelling the latest in sheep wear accessories... the bucket helmet. Protects against ear tag damage and alien mind reading skills.
I didn't think there were any buckets in their field, but she managed to find one!
From the lamb who refused all contact and all milk a few weeks ago - becoming the lamb who is calling and waiting for his morning milk from me.
Yes, I'm like one of those proud Facebook mums, completely oversharing about their child.
But I don't care!
Driver came to empty our septic tank, I asked him (from a distance) if he'd like some eggs. Oh yes please as they're like gold dust. How much? Nothing, go on take two boxes, I've got plenty spare. So off he went with about 20 eggs.
If you can, give. Make a difference where u can
It is with a sad but happy heart that I am going to be closing my Twitter account at the end of this month. I have loved sharing my stories with you, and I thank you all for following me.
It's for a job opportunity that I'm leaving so please do not worry! I'm fine ๐

let me introduce you to my boy, Pumpkin.
8 years ago, Pumpkin came into the world. 11pm at night, Farmer came in to me holding this orange tinged little lamb and asked me to work my magic on him. He was half dead because his mum abandoned him.

We need a farmers wives network, where we can talk to other farmers wives when things get too much.
Sometimes I just want to talk to someone who gets what this life is like, because it is not all sweetness and light. Iโll be honest, Iโm at my limit with it atm.
Oh dear...
Mum hasn't been feeding this one properly. I don't know how I managed to catch him as he's quite lively (I didn't over do it, promise!). Looks like mum has a bad case of Mastitis. Lamby here has just taken 3/4 of a bottle of milk and is now a tame lamb.
It's not all doom and gloom.
These are twins left from a treble, and they're fine. I've just topped them up with some powdered colostrum to kick start them, as mum isn't quite there yet with her milk.
The storm has taken out our power this morning, but it doesn't bother us...
The fires are lit, so the house is warm and my washing is drying in front of them.
The kids are sat playing chess.
I'm warming water on the stove for a cup of tea.
It's all terribly old fashioned! ๐คฃ
My neighbour did her best looking after Junior today, but unfortunately we lost him. She did for him, the same as I did and I knew in her care, he would be warm, cared for, loved and tended to, while I had to be out today.
We tried, we really tried! ๐๐ญ๐
Girlie made it through the night but she has gone down hill since. We have decided to withdraw treatment and put her to sleep. She has given up, and so must we. Itโs unfair to put her through any more, when sheโs lost all will to keep going.
๐ญ
I donโt agree with right to roam. Not until weโve taught everyone how to respect the environment theyโre in and have dire consequences for those who donโt.
Nature is good for people.
But people are often not so good for nature.
Nature needs a home without people too.

for you. This is Sweetpea. She is in my tame lamb pen as her mum doesn't have enough milk for her.
She's in here with Brutus (a very big, strong lamb) and Nibbles (he Nibbles apparently). Both have the same story.
Today they're all drinking on their own!
This is Blue. Blue was a tame lamb but we gave her to a new mum, but new mum hasn't done a good job at looking after her.
Farmer just bought her in, in her death throes. We've thrown everything at her, thinking she'll be dead in half an hour, I walk into the kitchen to see this:
Tiny Tim sadly didn't survive the night. He looked like he was doing so well - drinking and alert. But perhaps the problem with his back legs were signs of a much bigger issue inside.
He was warm, fed and looked after till the end.
Iโve had to contact the Drs for farmer (at his request). Iโm hoping they recognise that a farmer asking for medical assistance in the middle of harvest is a big thing and they take a look at his festering hand before it drops off!
๐ฌ
We win! We win! Rebel may be in the feed trough, but his snout is covered in lamb creep, too!
We're still a long way off from 100%, but he's drinking milk and eating food finally!
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Mini Muddy lost a tooth last night. He shared Muddy Buddy's bed and left his tooth in there - I didn't realise. He came to me this morning proudly showing off the money that the tooth fairy left him.
Because his big brother took his own money and pretended to be the tooth fairy.
I just hope, that there never comes a day when all the farmers down tools and say โwe donโt want to produce your food anymoreโ because an awful lot of people would be stuffed.
Shops donโt grow food. They sell it.
Whatever your diet choice. Remember the starting point.
My teeny tiny triplet lamb that is my current office companion. Excuse my face!
He's so small I'm having to syringe feed him, and he's so weak that we are working on standing together as well as trying to regulate his temperature.
I've just lost the little lamb from this morning.
He didn't have any fight in him and he rapidly went down hill. He got hyperthermic and even the hot box couldn't turn him around.
Sorry, I tried ๐
Squidge passed quietly overnight. She was in front of a warm fire and had been given pain relief prior to our discovery of the bum hole malformation. Iโm sorry we couldnโt fix you little girl. ๐
Helen and one of her babies (the other two are behind her). I'd been saying for ages that she's so fat, she must be carrying more than two! She's a really gentle old ewe just like her mum, and she coos very softly to her babies โค๏ธ
I've created a babygro out of a t shirt of mini Muddy for Junior to keep him a bit warmer. Doing a nappy change on a lamb isn't as easy as you think it might be... ๐ four legs feel like a thousand...
The upside of moving the lambs today is that I can see them all a bit easier on the cameras.
Iโve been able to check in on red heart who is cuddled up with the other lambs. This morning he was laid out flat, shaking and ready to die. To see this now, is a miracle.
โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
The lambing shed is full of contented murmurs from mums and their new lambs. The last 4 lambings have arrived unafflicted, luckily. It's funny how a day can flip just like that.
A lesson perhaps; It's just a bad day, not a bad life โค๏ธโค๏ธ
Does anyone else watch the new All Creatures Great and Small? Weโve fallen in love with it in our house.
We sit down as a family to binge watch it and it takes me back to watching the original series with my parents.
I struggled yesterday to keep hold of my bucket when bringing the sheep in. I thought I must be unfit. After foot trimming, I started to ache all over which seemed to confirm it.
Today I feel like I have the flu and now Iโve just tested positive for Covid.
๐๐
Farmer: we have lambs in the garden
Me: and?
Farmer: we need to chase them out
Me: opens window and hollers in my best mum voice โget out of my friggin gardenโ
Lambs: uh oh that sounds like she means business, letโs jump back over the hedge.
Me: job done.
Farmer: ๐ฎ
I am fed up with cashierless checkouts. It's making me an unpaid employee of the supermarkets.
Today, I've been forced to use it (no cashiers), and I've left the store beeping for some reason (no tags on the clothes)
Hate it. Hate it. Hate it.
When it's 2am and your alarm goes off and you hope that nothing is coming on to lamb...
Good thing I noticed, though, as lamb was upside down and big!
This scene makes it all worth it.
Jinxed it ๐ One of the trebles has taken a turn for the worse, going downhill in a matter of hours. I think this was the lamb born backwards and may have had some fluid go into the lungs, causing pneumonia/chest infection. He's on treatment and been brought into the house.
I like people, but I have a very low threshold to being in the physical presence of them. I find myself feeling very drained by large groups of people. Is this weird?
Sorry
@Tesco
if you're gonna use a kid to guilt me into not eating meat then I'm going to change to Asda instead.
But hey fake food sold by the fake farms does seem perfectly apt.
If only we could use fake money to buy it.
Last night I found out my friendโs son had killed himself.
This comes in a week where a 15 year old boy also killed himself.
Maybe just check in with your sons, your brothers, your friends, your uncles, your fathers, your neighbours and see how theyโre doing.
๐๐
Today my tame lambs went out into the big field for the first time. Farmer said: "How will you know which are your lambs?"
"I'll know" I replied.
Just gone out and all 9 of them were waiting for me to let them back in! An hour out was enough for them today! ๐คฃ๐คฃ
On our way to the local prime stock show and FIL calls us to say he's found a ewe in the ditch that he can't get out. Off we all go to pull her out and bring her in. She's suffering from hypothermia and hypoglycaemia. I've administered treatment. Fingers crossed.
Oh dear...
This is an indoor lamb. Not sure the route cause but definitely hypothermia atm and a level of pain and discomfort.
I'm going to do what I can but let's say it probably won't survive.
I think I'd rather hand you a miracle than get your hopes up this time.
Red heart is looking brighter today. He's the first lamb to have made it to the second dose of antibiotics. The new ABs have worked very well for him.
Fingers ๐ค we've turned the corner!
Thank you everyone for your messages today, there have been more than I can reply to. I have tried to put a like on them so you can see Iโve seen your comment, if I havenโt been able to reply.
Hereโs to everyone whoโs lost someone (human or animal) recently โค๏ธโค๏ธ
@HUGOBOSS
@joelycett
is such a good lad. Heโs the absolute Boss. Hugo Boss in fact. Wish That goddamn awful company that makes loads of money and sends cease and desist letters to small businesses could be as kind.
Iโve had a really interesting zoom meeting tonight about doing meat boxes. I think one of the best ways farmers can tackle whatโs going on at the moment, is to cut out the middle men and go direct to the consumers.
Do you believe in miracles? Just about to see if she's strong enough to take a bottle. I syringed milk into her earlier. Her twin has been up and taking milk from mum!
Last night I hit 3000 followers on here. It may just be a fluke and Iโm sure it will go back down again but 3000 people are tuning in to me.
I canโt even get the 3 in my house to listen and take notice. ๐๐๐
Iโve had a very low day today. Iโm fed up of the weather, Iโm fed up of the farm, Iโm fed up of being stuck indoors, Iโm fed up no one wants to do anything (other than work) and Iโm crying out for something to change.
(Sorry just needed to share it)
Today I have said goodbye to my furry friend of 16 years. The only dog I have owned (or rather owned me) from the day they were born.
Run free Ollie dog. Thank you for everything โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ๐
Squib is back in with mum today. He's been coming out daytime and then coming back in the house at night. Mum is a lovely old ewe who welcomes him back every morning. Today, it's noticeable that Squib has put on a bit of weight, and his leg bandage is off.
Paddy is up and about now. My dad popped over to see his new "Grandchild" and pointed out that this isn't Rhubarb. Duh, I'm so thick. This is Rose, and I've been calling her Rhubarb for two weeks. No wonder she didn't listen!
Look at my unusual strawberry. This process is called vivipary which means the seeds have germinated on the plant. It's one plant out of about 12 doing this. I've taken the seeds off one of the strawberries before it gets to this stage to see if I can get them to grow...
A holiday maker has complained to Farmer today because there's tractors on the road and they shouldnt be there... and they don't have them in Manchester.
He was an awful holiday maker. The wife apologised, and the kids in the back told farmer that their dad was a CNUT.
Thank you to the person who had a celebration in the last week and let their balloon go... it landed in our field - luckily not in with the rams who could have got caught up in it, or worse.
Don't worry, I'll deal with your rubbish for you!
FFS
Rebel came running over for his milk this morning! And glugged down 3/4 of a bottle! It's like he's a totally different lamb!
On a sad note, I've lost the lamb from yesterday. We didn't expect it, as he was taking milk yesterday really well and seemed to improve.
1
Small but mighty! It's always so pleasing when they get it! This is our tiniest lamb in our take lamb pen. Born a few days ago, mum.who had three, has struggled to feed two of them. We've had a lot of the trebles struggling to rear two lambs this year.
1
We've cleaned out the shed and moved everything onto completely clean and new bedding.
The new antibiotic and supportive treatment seems to have helped red heart, who is back on his feet. That doesn't mean I'm confident he's okay now. Only time will tell....
๐
Just in case anyone missed it, we put girlie down. As much as I got on top of the magnesium deficiency, she gave up, her body gave up, and it looked like too much damage had been done on the inside. It would have been cruel to keep her going.
Tonight I fling off my bra, shove on my jammies, break open a bottle of wine and eat my own body weight in crap food (and that's a lot) because today was the last day of homeschooling the longest week of the year.
Anyone who F's this up again; I'm gonna hunt you down.
Thank you all for your lovely, lovely tweets. I owe you all a big thank you for following. Without you, this account wouldnโt have been the thing that it is. Your willingness to engage, listen, learn, laugh and cry alongside me has been a wonderful thing Iโll treasure. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Ah my beautiful bottle babies! Tito has adapted to the feeder. This is a transition stage. Next I'll put on our milk feeder and they can regulate their own feeds (on demand is better on their tummies)
I think I can finally say Red Heart is out of the woods today from the pneumonia. He's had his third jab today, and it looks like nothing was ever wrong with him.
Rebel also had a full tummy this morning. Not sure what it's full of, but it's a start. So no tubing required today.
A new update on Rebel: Just a week ago, he was skin and bone, and I really thought he was going to starve himself to death. Yesterday, when I picked him up for feeding, he had a lovely round belly and weight to him. Today, for the first time ever, he's taken 3/4 of a bottle.

The dead stock collection lorry came today to pick up the lambs we lost this lambing season.
He was confused that we had so few lambs die. We were confused because we felt we had so many lambs die.
Other farms have sadly lost a lot more.
I guess itโs a matter of perspective.
There is such joy in seeing a lamb that you nearly lost getting up and looking for milk from their mum โคโคโค
It really is a time of great highs and lows!
Iโm going to duck out of social media now until after Christmas. Itโs a busy time of year and I spend it with the most important people in my life; my family and friends.
So I wish you all a lovely Christmas!
This shall forever be known as The Coronation Gate. This gate has wanted replacing for over 20 years. For the 16 years I've been with farmer, it's been held up by hurdles and baler twine.
This is more momentous an occasion for us than the new King.
My clever girlie has managed to get herself up on her own tonight.
Itโs really important that they can get up on their feet. I spent the afternoon lifting her and syringing in fluids and energy liquids.
Sheโs not out of the woods by a long shot. The next 24-48 hrs are crucial
Eek! I've decided to run sheep courses on the farm, aimed mainly at smallholders and those just starting with sheep. I've got my first 6 people booked in.
I'm both excited and nervous!
It's our two month anniversary of getting Muddy Kitten, and he's finally rewarded me with a decent picture of him. He's been giving me a lot of love and affection while I've been ill. He loves to suck on my earlobes which is both annoying and cute (he lost his mum at 5 weeks old)
I grew up with:
If there are no bins = you take your litter home
If the bins are full = you take your litter home
If the bins are too far away = you take your litter home
Donโt drop it
My waste = my responsibility.
Your waste = your responsibility
It really is that simple.
I donโt know whether it was the physio appointment yesterday, or that, in combination with the meds and the Tens machine, but this morning has been the first morning Iโve not woken up in agony for two weeks. It still aches but itโs 1/4 of the pain.
I almost feel euphoric!
It's not the best picture, but it's one of the best pictures I have of muddy kitten.
Having a kitten in the house is like a toddler on steroids while on a binge high of skittles....
I wish I had his energy!
