It is a great honor for us to represent Ukraine at the Oscars ceremony. This statuette, this victory is for Ukrainians, for the people of Mariupol. I’m thankful to everyone who defends our country and fights for our freedom.
I wish I’d never made this film.
I wish I’d been able to exchange this for Russia never attacking Ukraine, never occupying our cities, never killing tens of thousands of my fellow Ukrainians. But I cannot change the history. I cannot change the past. But we all together can
2 years ago, the world watched in horror as photographs, videos, and testimonies emerged from Bucha, a town occupied for a month by Russian forces. When they withdrew, they left behind hundreds of murdered civilians and thousands of survivors forever marked by the experience.

It’s important to show footage of these real events, so that they don’t occur again.
It’s even more important to show them, so someone does something to put an end to them.
20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL has won Audience Award for World Cinema Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. 🏆
I hope this film will not only generate awareness, but also serves as a permanent record of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war crimes that happened in Mariupol.
Volodymyr, the hero of the "20 Days in Mariupol," was injured yesterday in Pokrovsk.
He is the police officer who saved our lives helping to escape from the besieged city. Hang in there, my friend. Mariupol is waiting for your return.

The long-awaited Ukrainian premiere of “20 Days in Mariupol”. It was sad, anxious, but at the same time heartwarming event. Many of those who were with us in besieged Mariupol, who saved the lives of civilians and defended the city, stood with us in the cinema theatre.

20 Days in Mariupol
This is an emotionally heavy but important historical documentary, an event for Ukrainian documentary cinema, and one of the first documentaries about the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine to make it to international festivals.
"20 Days in Mariupol," is opening at the Film Forum in New York and select theaters across the US.
Every step of this incredible journey has been hard but inspiring. It's a story of pain, but also resilience, compassion, and the indomitable Ukrainian spirit.
