How many royal commissions have been triggered by the work of Four Corners over more than five decades? Just remarkable, sustained investigative reporting of the highest quality. Journalism with consequence.
Reports the PM is set to announce a Royal Commission into the Aged Care sector come on the eve of the ABC’s biggest ever crowdsourced investigation.

Not just a remarkable service for Australians at home - the ABC’s international TV service is bringing outstanding bushfire coverage for Australian travellers and expats. Only the ABC can do this - a treasured asset.
Such a straight-talker, Dr Chant. You know she is working around- the-clock with her team and is so concerned at the current risk and the challenges ahead. Great professionalism and integrity.
Ten years since we lost the intrepid storytellers: Paul Lockyer, John Bean and Gary Ticehurst - on assignment for the ABC at Lake Eyre. Much admired, greatly missed. Love to family, friends and colleagues.
Having studied these over the years - the ABC's growth and sustained online engagement is remarkable. Not just the audience - but how long they stay and how frequently they return. An indispensable part of Australian life.
ABC NEWS was Australia’s No 1 digital news site in August with an audience of 13 million Australians, the most sessions and the most time spent. Source: Nielsen DCR

Two things that have exhausted the nation this week:
1. Canberra
2. Book Week costume creation.
Thanks to all the mums, dads, teachers and kids who have made thousands of book week celebrations look so wonderful.

New Zealand election tomorrow. I was there for the last one. This was the only evidence of a polling centre. Laws prohibit leaflets, banners, party workers, corflutes at booths. No democracy sausage. No fundraisers. It is serious business. Get in, do your duty, move on.
On Election Day I am always reminded of the advice of the great Rugby writer Spiro Zavos. Heading into the World Cup final, I asked him who was going to win. He told me: “I don’t know. That’s why they’re playing the game.”
I wonder if anyone at Nine/Fairfax ever considers the morality and fairness of regularly selling prime editorial real estate (today pages 2-3) to Clive Palmer, to advance his personal vendetta against a senior public servant.
Worth remembering with these press conferences that the speakers have an additional 15 hours of case numbers in their possession than being publicly announced (which is up to 8pm last night). The tone of the press conference often presages what tomorrow's numbers will show.
"I can report that the ABC has the most infuriatingly diligent anti-bias and complaint-handling processes of any organisation... no organisation is more genuine in trying to do the right thing, from top to bottom."

A hero to all of us in NSW Education - and now Australia's local hero. Congratulations Eddie Woo. A wonderful teacher, an innovative leader, a great Australian.

AAP is part of the vital media infrastructure in this country, allowing local news outlets to cover stories only they can cover, with the national news and photos are delivered through the AAP service. Regional/rural news outlets will be even more at risk. A solution needed.
A remarkable week. Thanks to all our teams in

schools - and all across the Department providing support. Your passion for teaching and learning - and your commitment to ensure every student is known, valued and cared for - has been clear for everyone to see.
If your child has a cough, sore throat, respiratory illness, fever, heavy cold or flu-like symptoms - then it is best for everyone that there is no school today. Same for teachers!
I am not sure it is widely understood just how important AAP is, providing a core reporting service for countless large and small media outlets across the country.
Thanks again for standing up for the kids

It is no longer medical; it is much wider. Mark is an accountant and a manager. He knows some things but he does not know health. I have been a teacher with 6 degrees in the humanities. I only have an average knowledge of Maths and Science.
Wonderful seeing

Met a fellow outside Chatswood Public today - showing it to his son and grandson. He was a student there 75 years ago and remembers this day with the announcement of Victory in the Pacific. They all got an early mark and he heard all the church bells tolling as he walked home.
The 24/7 work done by our teams over recent weeks to support schools through the start of the school year, fires and now coronavirus - has been remarkable to watch. They have been going all weekend and are still at it tonight. Tireless and committed to public service.
