#WritingCommunity
and
#MoodPitch
participants:
We have some important news regarding our November 2023 pitch event. In short, we have decided to cancel this fall’s event because it has become unfeasible to provide a quick fix to the problem that arose this past weekend.
🧵

#Writers
: Please let us know if you get agent/pub likes on your pitches so we can potentially showcase them for future events and on our website! We would love to celebrate successful pitches (a successful pitch = agent/pub likes). 👇🏻

#Writers
: Please let us know if you get agent/pub likes on your pitches so we can celebrate your wins with you! With your permission, we may potentially showcase them later on in our newsletter,

, or on our website!
1/ WOW. Today was absolutely amazing. Jaimie, Lula, & I want to thank each & every
#writer
who participated and/or supported each other in
#MoodPitch
. We know this was nerve-racking & exciting, so kudos to you all who put your work out there! You should all be so proud! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
🧵
#WritingCommunity
: Concerns regarding our November 2023
#MoodPitch
event have come to our attention. We have had serious discussions to come up with what we feel is the best course of action for everyone. Effective immediately, we are moving our event off social media. 🧵
We cannot even tell y’all how happy we are.
#MoodPitch
is going better than we ever could have imagined, and it’s not even half over yet. 😭🙏🏻♥️ The beautiful images floating through Twitter today and the amazing pitches are just 👌🏻 These numbers are just in the last HOUR. 👇🏻🧵
#MoodPitch
folks—thank you for another amazing pitch day! Some closing thoughts as we wind down. First, if you got industry likes, congrats! Your pitch is working! But if you didn't? It says nothing about the quality of your pitch, premise, or moodboard.

HERE WE GO,
#WRITERS
! April 2023
#MoodPitch
is finally here! Please see official guidelines on our website, PLEASE use ALT text on all your moodboards, and please support authors by RT or commenting on pitches you love! Good luck and have fun! 🤞🏻😊

#AmQuerying
#WritingCommunity
, we hear you & are taking into consideration all your concerns & thoughts re: hosting
#MoodPitch
next month on Twitter. We are taking some time to discuss, respond, & decide appropriately with everyone’s best interests in mind. Thank you for your patience.
#Writers
: it's been called to our attention that some folks are tagging
#agents
in the comments on some pitches. While we love your enthusiasm, please don't tag agents as this puts other writers at a disadvantage. We want this pitch event to be fair and inclusive.
#MoodPitch
Just a quick note that the correct hashtag to use for the event on Nov 3 is
#MoodPitch
(not
#MoodPit
). We would hate to see anyone's gorgeous moodboard and pitch not be seen because of the wrong hashtag! 😱

We’re seeing everyone gear up for
#MoodPitch
& we love it! Please add ALT text to your images, even outside pitches. Our goal is to make it second nature for everyone because blind/low vision folks use Twitter/X every day, not just during the pitch event.😊🙏🏻
#WritingCommunity
Hello,
#MoodPitchers
! As we gear up for the big day, we would like to give everyone some key reminders about participating tomorrow. Please ensure you understand these pointers clearly, and reach out if you have any questions. 🧵

We are seeing some AMAZING pitches & moodboards, folks! So many of them include ALT text! We are super happy about that!
If yours is missing ALT text, you can add it in the comments but please remember to use it for subsequent pitches (and any post with images going forward!)
👇🏻
We LOVE seeing the outpouring of support & friendship happening between
#writers
in the
#WritingCommunity
right now as everyone gears up for
#MoodPitch
. Connections made, knowledge shared, encouragement passed along. It’s so heartwarming! THIS is why we do what we do!🥰🥰
About using AI in moodboards: We encourage participants to support artists' intellectual property and avoid using AI-generated images that are created by mining art from the internet without consent or compensation. 🧑🏼🎨

We've been seeing some INCREDIBLE moodboards and pitches, folks! We're keeping an eye out for any boards that are missing ALT text and DMing with gentle reminders, but if DMs aren't open, we'll tweet directly to you (not as a reply on your pitch).

Today's
#MoodPitch
has come to a close, but keep your pitches pinned because agents and publishers may still come around and like them later!
We will be back in the spring of 2023 with the next
#MoodPitch
! Good luck with your querying and keep us posted!
Thanks for playing along & answering our character questions today,
#writers
! We hope it was fun & got you thinking about your characters & your manuscripts. Come back tomorrow evening at 9pm ET for Query Pkg Trivia Night & have a chance to win a query critique! 😊

#MoodPitch
folks, we are listening! Please feel free to share feedback here. We care deeply about providing an accessible and equitable pitching environment, and we're always aiming to improve, so we're discussing the spreadsheet suggestion at our next meeting. That said,
1/
Since we know the algorithm works by boosting likes way higher than RTs...I'm just wondering how, going forward, we could make pitch events more equitable? It always seems like those pitches that get likes super early go bananas and get tons of likes, while others get left behind
A quick reminder to folks who got industry likes on their pitches to research & vet the agents & acquiring editors before sending materials. Make sure they're legit, & make sure they're a good fit for you and your story.

So what can you do right now to maximize your visibility?
Post-pitch day tips:
-Pin your best/most popular tweet!
-Keep checking those pitches! Agents often give likes days/weeks later
-Query open agents who rep your genre—that's how most authors get agented, anyway!
3/
Folks, please remember not to tag people (including us) in your pitches & moodboards. While we love seeing your gorgeous boards, we don't engage with
#writers
pitches (as hard as it is) as we want to remain neutral about all pitches & not play favourites!😉

: We received a request for Muslim Voices this evening. We're happy to announce
#MU
for Muslim voices has been added to our official list!
Note: We also have the tag

for marginalized identities, including religious minorities. You may use any tag you'd like!

folks!
💥💥 ALT TEXT IS REQUIRED 💥💥
Our team will be giving gentle reminders if we see moodboards without alt text on pitch day. If you have DMs open, we'll drop a quick reminder there. If not, we'll remind you in the comments 🥰

We’d like to be absolutely clear with all participants in
#moodpitch
(or any pitch contest, for that matter): a pitch contest is NOT the time or place to be critiquing people’s pitches. If you’re going to comment to show support, be supportive and kind. 💜 1/5

One more month until
#moodpitch
! Are you ready?
We're planning some fun activities in the days leading up to it to help you prepare. The more

who participate, the more successful it will be, so spread the word & get those moodboards + pitches ready! 😄

#PreMoodPitch
is loosely set for 'all day' so you can tweet your practice pitches whenever it's Friday the 31st in your time zone, & we'll do our best to give feedback on as many pitches as we can! We hope to see lots of authors helping other authors, too. Don't forget ALT text!

Here are
#PitchStats
for
#MoodPitch
!
I will start with some really good news.
There were just shy of 1200 participants, which is on par with many other events (SFFPit and PitMad having far more).
But we saw more agents with this event than we've seen since December PitMad. 🎉
We sincerely hope you enjoyed
#MoodPitch
in whatever capacity you joined in today. Again, THANK YOU ALL for your support, participation, spreading the word about our new event, and making this day so spectacular. Good luck on your

journeys, wherever they may take you!♥️

@lulalockwood
MoodPitch far exceeded my expectations, especially as someone who had very few followers coming into the week. What I found to be the most beneficial was partaking in all the events leading up to the day. I established a community and we were all able to boost one another.
Just a quick reminder to
#writers
participating with their pitches + moodboards: please don't tag people or pitch in a reply to an agent's or editor's tweet. Each writer can pitch a max of three times per MS, and from your own account. Thank you! 😊

#MoodPitchers
If you get an agent/editor like on your pitch, visit their Twitter page to see what their requested materials are & where to send. If you don’t see anything there, query as usual via their agency/pub website & ensure you put
#MoodPitch
in subject line and/or query😊
#WritingCommunity
: A quick reminder that if you're participating in
#MoodPitch
or
#PreMoodPitch
, we require ALT text to be added to images to help us keep our event as accessible as possible. If you need help figuring it out, reach out to us. There are also some resources 👇🏻.

Q: Do I need 3 different moodboards?

friends, one of the most important things to know about pitch events is that not receiving likes is in no way a reflection of you or your writing. It’s so hard to get noticed on Twitter, by the right people, at the right time. The algorithms are a mystery.
🧵👇🏻
#MoodPitch
stats are here, thanks to
@Frozley
! In November, there were 5023 pitches across all genres with 1201 industry likes from a total of 143 industry professionals (agents, editors, & publishers combined). Nearly a quarter of all pitches received a like. That’s amazing!
1/
There are SO many reasons agents might've missed your pitch! The ever-unpredictable algorithm, timing of pitches, and luck factor in. Oh, and the *huge* number of pitches out there today! This is a big event, and massive participation means it can be difficult to stand out.
