Here a photo of my front lawn.
3 years ago I decided let it go wild.
It used to be short grass with stripes like my neighbours.
Now it's full of love, life & excitement.
Some passers by shake their heads & some take photos ๐ค๐
Blocked Swift Colony. I'm being ignored by the residents, the scaffold company and the police.
I reported this crime yesterday and they've done nothing about it (ref 20-0432), when I called back this morning THE POLICE HUNG UP ON ME!
please help.
Blocked Swift colony update.
I've been informed the police are in attendance, this will be thanks to the public pressure & to every single wonderful person that took the time to get involved.
Let's hope the police understand the situation & get the scaffolding altered.
RoadsideRagwort๐
In all over 177 species of insect use ragwort as a source of nectar or pollen.
It's a native wildflower to be celebrated.
It's NOT a cumulative poison
And in the extremely unlikely event of livestock eating it,it's excreted in about 24 to 48 hours
Insects have declined by 78% in the last 20years & now this. ๐ก ๐ฆ๐๐ชฒ๐ชฐ๐๐๐๐ฆ๐.
Everyone agrees to cut sight lines but this sad, tidy obsession has got to stop.
Yellow Ragwort.
So much scaremongering of a native wildflower that's been here since the last ice age.
> It's not a cumulative poison (The fact is that they are excreted in about 24 to 48 hours).
> It cannot penetrate human skin

Update on blocked Swift colony in Ramsgate.
Police have been in attendance & are unable to access the scaffold.
the scaffold has been up for nearly a week, itโs not looking good for chicks.
Scaffolders are out of the country but intend to visit site Tuesday (23rd)

Today
@Kent_cc
cut the grass on the roundabout. It was about 3 inches long and full of flowers (Hawkbit) which looks great and it's brilliant for pollinators.
What a waste of tax payers money & what is the point ???
Can anybody help?
I just don't have time ๐
Many swifts at a loyal swift colony at Albert Road, Ramsgate have been blocked from their nests by scaffolding. they probably have young in nests too.
no answer at property (its flats) This is against the law & I have reported to police
Slow worms under just one of our many reptile mats out on the Minster Marsh yet National Grid has said there's not a significant population of slow worms there ๐ค

Having the odd rat in the garden is totally normal.
Rodenticide is absolutely lethal stuff to all wildlife and pets.
In fact, rats are cleaner than the average dog.

Today I spotted two hare coursers and called the police who were absolutely amazing and managed to catch them..
In my footage you can actually see one of the guys carrying the dead hare.
Unfortunately my footage is a bit naff because I was using my phone through my binoculars.
Big snake๐ฅฐ. Much of our wildlife living on roadside verges are vunerable to obsessive mowing. They often get shredded to pieces.
So I picked this grass snake up to show you just how special the life on our verges is.

10 x Bee-eater in Courtstairs park this morning!
There I was walking along the promenade with my dog when I saw and heard a flock of 10 bee-eater.
I couldn't believe my eyes and I only had my phone for photos, they were moving through.
A first for the patch

๐ It's not "nature" or the "circle of life"
This figure is believed to be an underestimation because it counts only confirmed kills, not birds caught and eaten or injured, only to die later.
Iโd love if you can email this hotel (comfort inn ramsgate) in an attempt to persuade them to let me install swift boxes, I am offering to fund it too.
I am insured to do it & work will not affect listed status

Rescued this Kestrel, it was stuck in the grill of a moving car, I spotted it as I pulled off a roundabout. I rescued the bird and decided to talk about it and show you before I released it.
It was a successful rescue.
Heartbreaking to find our Peregrine nest box totally destroyed.
The box was a huge success & help for the birds, they raised many young each year.
It was bombarded with concrete fence posts thrown from top
I dropped in immediately to make safe.
Don't think birds were injured
So far scaffold company have lied to people saying RSPCA came & inspected and said it's OK.
They are also saying to police they are out the country atm despite not saying that to myself & others
Giant hazard to wildlife on newbuild site.
This is quite unbelievable. It's well known housing estates do little for wildlife but this is just unbelievable.
They should have planted trees instead.

Are you ready for "let it bloom in June"?
How did your

go?
(by the way it's not all about pretty flowers)
Keep it going! No mow may is about reimagining your lawn, A way of instigating an intrest. Letting life & love in.

Thanet Council never fail to disappoint me.
I gave them 4 quality Swift nest boxes for a project in Broadstairs only for them to double bag and return them in fear because one of them had bird poop on!
I swear our council are from another planet ๐คฌ
We lost one of our last wildflower meadows in Thanet to housing a few years ago. To rub it in they called the development "the meadows" & planted loads of laurels.
Never got those trees in the CGI either.
The houses on the left (Foreland Heights, Ramsgate) used to be meadow/allotments.
Now it's modern houses consisting largely of hardstanding despite the area being prone to flooding.
Like most modern construction Westwood Cross is a sterile un-accommodating place for wildlife however it feels my heart with love to see somebody has been putting bird feeders out in the car park
This morning I cleared lots and lots of fine shredded plastic from the strandline of my patch (Pegwell bay) mostly consists of plastic coffee cups and latex gloves.
๐ญ Its very time consuming to clear.

Beach closed for bank holiday weekend. Toxic sludge at Minnis Bay
An algal bloom, possibly caused by sewage and/or warmer sea temperatures has died back, causing oxygen levels in the water to crash killing marine life on the Thanet coast.
Our ecosystem is falling apart!
@philespin
I had a missed call (private number) from "Wildlife crime unit" that's all they've done. They could have easily visited the site and then instructed the scaffolders to alter their scaffolding and pause work until September
Attended a stranded Beaver on the beach this morning, These rodents are incredibly important. They have been reintroduced after 400 year absence so itโs something quite unique and new to be dealing with.
Before we take up countless acres of land with solar panels put them on every car park, library, school, supermarket, office block ,warehouse and home let the people produce their own power.

150 meters of ancient hedgerow ripped out & burnt. Monkton Road, Minster.
Hedgerows are not just for wildlife.
They also ๐
> Bring shelter, beauty
> Protect soil from erosion
> Reduce surface run off
> Capture carbon
> Prolong life of road by sheltering from sun & frost
& more
A corn bunting singing at chalk Hill in Ramsgate.
Sadly this area is under development and this will be a thing of the past soon.

My forgotten land FULL of litter
Places like these are great for wildlife, not much in thanet is left for wildlife.

on their uk litterpick last summer i was inspired to finally tackle it myself.

SOMEONE HAD TO DO SOMETHING & I'M SOMEONE.
A stranded fish that goes by many names such as small-spotted catshark, sandy dogfish, lesser-spotted dogfish, Rough-hound or Moray.
Was stranded in ramsgate this morning.
I put it back into the sea and swam it off.
1:15 I'm in my front garden and I hear gulls at high level going mad I reach for the bins and there it was the white-tailed sea eagle heading northwest from Pegwell
Last night after rescuing a hedgehog & keeping it indoors for the night.
It managed to get out of its box whilst we were all asleep climb upstairs & poo everywhere.
House Martin nest colony in Sandwich.
The house martin is a common summer visitor to the UK. It builds mud nests, sometimes in small colonies, under ledges, on cliffs and, as their name suggests, under the eaves of house.

Here is the giant sponge the National Grid intend to build a giant converter station site.
Not only wildlife rich but these wetlands protect us from extreme weather events and help us by storing rain like a sponge.
Wetlands make up only 3% of the UK & are home to 10% of species
I found a beautiful little bumblebees nest under construction on a roadside Verge.
I'm really looking forward to going back and filming it (and probably getting g stung ๐).
I just hope the mowers and chemicals don't beat me to it

The University of Kent has proposed building a new settlement of 2,000 houses, shops and offices on a massive greenfield site in the heart of The Blean.
With well over 300 others I took part in a protest march.

It's been lovely having a film crew on our coast for the last 2 days but it was extremely disappointing to see how much litter they left behind.
Cable ties, tape, plastic bottles, coffee cups, plastic cutlery & more.
I picked up the majority of it

About 12 or more look like they're spending the night in Pegwell
