and Imperfect Foods have always shared the idea of a reimagined grocery experience and a less wasteful world, which is why joining forces with their talented team makes perfect sense.
This rescued romanesco's iconic kaleidoscope swirls are cream-colored rather than their usual vibrant green, most likely due to shorter days and colder temps. Though the change in color has no affect on its signature fractal shape, crunchy texture, or deliciously nutty flavor.
This week, keep an eye out for purple Brussels sprouts! One of our farm partners is a first-time Brussels sprout grower and ended up with an excess amount this season, so we were able to swoop in and save the extras.

The Gold Nugget mandarin is aptly named for its lumpy, bumpy appearance and vibrant hue that resembles a lump of gold. While this mandarin might look a bit rough around the edges, its rind is relatively easy to peel and it gets bonus points for being totally seedless.
Now more than ever it's key to store your organic fruits and veggies correctly to keep them fresh as long as possible. Head to our blog to learn where to store everything and what to eat first so you get the most out of your produce in the weeks ahead:

When your Misfits Market box gives you lemons… sometimes they’re green. And no, they’re not unripe or bad. The greenish-yellow hue is due to unexpected temperature changes. The taste will still be as tart as ever.

We need to talk about celery. It’s time it gets the love it deserves. It served you well as a kid—ants on a log, anyone?—but now it’s too often relegated to the bottom of the crisper. Agree? Disagree?

February brings a host of new rescued produce. We’ll see the juiciest winter citrus, like blood oranges and Meyer lemons, mega-sized pomelos and petite Gold Nugget mandarins. The ideal mix for a refreshing citrus salad, morning juices, or to add flavor to cocktails.
Think of fuyu and hachiya persimmons as fraternal twins—they might have a ton in common, but their differences define them. Hachiyas are best snacked on whole when they’re super soft, while fuyus can be eaten when firm (making them contenders for salads, toast, and cheeseboards).

From acorn and butternut to spaghetti and zucchini, our handy gourd guide will have you covered whether you want to roast ‘em, sauté ‘em, stuff ‘em, or blend into a soup! Head to the blog for everything you need to know about all things squash:
Small-ish heads of Savoy cabbage are heading out in boxes this week. Due to damage on exterior leaves, they had to be trimmed down to reveal a smaller, yet perfectly delicious cabbage. The diminutive heads don't fit retail specifications, so we're happily taking them instead.
See that beautiful, leafy chard on the left? That was passed up by grocery stores for being too big! You might be surprised by what’s deemed unfit for the store. Thankfully, we’re still doing our thing and bringing you these great rescues at an unchanged price.

Wow! What a year! Not only did we officially turn 1, but thanks to your support, we shipped more than 1 million boxes, prevented more than 1 million tons of CO2 emissions, and rescued more than 15 million pounds of produce. Read our full 2019 recap:

this week: hitting our two year mark. It has us thinking about everything we’ve been able to accomplish with your help. The most important of which is just how much high-quality, organic produce we’ve been able to rescue.
Heat up the new year—jalapeño and serrano peppers, anyone?—with a new mix of rescued organic produce. We'll see fewer hardy squashes this month, but a lot more root veggies. Beets, onions, turnips, carrots. The ideal base of one-pan dinners that are easy to prep in advance.
This green bell pepper comes from one of our farm partners in South Carolina, and we couldn't pass up the chance to share it again. While it may look a little out-of-this-world, we like to think that it's Mother Nature's version of a 2-for-1 deal.

Spicy, sweet, subtle. There’s always a plethora of peppers to rescue for your boxes. Not sure which to pick or how to use them? Read our handy guide. It breaks down their differences and has loads of tips on how to fold them into your cooking routine.
It's the start of another week, which means a fresh batch of produce is hitting our storefront. Here's a peek at what you can add to your orders this week. What are you excited about?
One way to eliminate more food waste at home is to keep certain foods apart from one another, like apples and oranges. Apples produce an ethylene gas that can cause other fresh produce, like citrus fruits, to ripen—AKA spoil—faster. An easy fix is to simply keep them apart.
We ship all sorts of lettuces, but sometimes it can be pretty tough to tell some of them apart—and to find new ways to use them beyond salad. Learn how to spot the differences and how best to use them in our handy lettuce guide:
Turnips are wildly under appreciated! This humble little root has a lot to offer: different varieties, shapes, colors. Roasting will tamp down any bitterness and sweeten them up. A little miso-butter wouldn’t be a bad idea either. If you see turnips in your box—get excited.
Spotted: the first of the wintry roots! Our friends at

Gardens in California are sending us these very cool, twisty, and knobby parsnips because they’re too out-there for old-school grocery stores. Meaning they’re perfect for all of us!

Who says pesto has to have basil and pine nuts? Fight food waste in the kitchen by mixing and matching with whatever leftover herbs, nuts, and greens you have on hand!
Earth Greens grows delicious leafy greens, so when we learned they had a surplus of lettuces each week, we teamed up with them to rescue the excess. The result is a delicious combo of green goodness. Since what’s left over changes weekly, each individual package mix will vary.
Need to perk up wilted greens? Submerge them in an ice-water bath for 5-10 minutes to give them their second wind. But before you do, get rid of the parts that are too mushy.

Get ready for a new batch of rescued produce this week! We’re especially excited about two varieties of dandelion greens, six different kinds of apples, and jicama, which will pair perfectly in a crunchy slaw with those watermelon radishes.

It's another new month (yes, June already!), which means another new batch of rescued produce here at Misfits Market. We can't talk about June without getting excited for peak-season tomatoes, melon, corn, and stone fruit.
If you’re looking for a delicious, toss-it-all-in, weeknight recipe—this one-pan chicken with roasted veggies is it! You can mix up the assortment of veggies and herbs depending on what you got in your box. Watch now:

Spring is in full swing and this month we're flush with a ton of seasonal produce. So many fresh herbs, a plethora of new fruits, plus all of the good green stuff like English peas, cucumbers, kiwis, honeydew, and asparagus.
It’s always a good day when we get our hands on the new monthly produce list. July, of course, is delivering on all the summer faves: corn, squash, stone fruit, and beefsteak tomatoes. What’s catching your eye?

Stone fruit season is in full swing, which means bite-sized cherries have finally made their long-awaited appearance. We can’t get enough of them and love snacking on petite cherries by the handful, with caution of course. (Those hard pits should be navigated with care.)
We’re always finding new ways to help fight food waste. Take these bags Taza made just for us. Each is filled with all the tasty bits that break off while making a full-sized chocolate bar. There’s no good reason to let all that high-quality chocolate go un-snacked on.
To soak or not to soak your dried beans overnight—a surprisingly hotly debated topic out there. We’re fans of the pre-soak—and the pre-cook—so here are a few pointers.

It's another new month, which means a fresh batch of rescued organic produce. November is all about fresh fall fruits like pears, pomegranates, figs, citrus, and persimmons—but we also have an abundance of hardy squash and root veggies, too.
When rescuing food is at the core of everything you do, you're pretty obsessed with keeping track of how much you've helped prevent going to waste.

is tomorrow, so we had to celebrate the staggering amount of food we've rescued since our founding 2.5 years ago.
With winter just around the corner, hardy squashes are a mainstay but this time of year is also when root veggies shine. We aren't just talking about potatoes. We have an abundance of unique roots right now, like sunchokes, celery root, rutabaga, parsnips, turnips, and radishes.
Being cost-conscious is at the center of everything we do as a brand. It’s all part of making fresh food as affordable and accessible as possible. Which is why we had *lots* of thoughts after reading a recent New York Times interview about healthy choices in grocery stores.
With all of this talk of salad dressing, this is your friendly reminder that it's pretty easy to make your own at home with ingredients you likely already have in your fridge or pantry.
Fall is on the horizon and with it comes a fresh batch of organic produce. This month, you’ll start to see even more varieties of pears and hardy squash, along with root veggies like turnips, parsnips, and the gnarly celery root.
Spotted in the Marketplace: black Mission figs! The first sign of more to come, surely, but these are considered some of the sweetest. They make a nice addition to a cheese plate, tossed into salads, or roasted with chicken and herbs.

Only need half an avocado but worried about it going bad? Store remaining half in a bowl of water—just enough to cover the inside—and place it in the fridge. The water helps keep browning at bay for 2-3 days.

Typically bright green, this week's Romanesco may have a slight purple tinge due to colder temperatures in California where they're grown. Despite its multi-colored appearance, it's 100% edible and just as delicious as the green variety you're used to.

Happy September! While we'll continue to rescue delicious summery produce like stone fruit, corn, and tomatoes, you'll start to see early fall fruits and veggies slide into your boxes, too. Think: hardy leafy greens, numerous apple varieties, and lots of root vegetables.
