Mitsuba’s story is the most tragic in the series. His only crime was being loved by Kou, and in turn he has to watch helplessly as Kou’s youthful warmth and naïvety is hardened into a cold rejection of the world that was shaped for his own personal gain and benefit.

This hits me and I’m not sure why that is exactly. I think part of it is the contrast between Kou’s words and expression: the bottom being one of my favorite of his. He’s so full of hope and charisma, and he’s prepared to take on whoever- even Mitsuba, to save Mitsuba.
