Very sorry to say that Aimee Matzen, the woman who was brave enough to speak out for this story, has died from covid 19. I truly thought she would make it. Please get vaccinated.
Truly unfortunate behavior towards journalists by law enforcement here. Forcing reporters to the ground then photographing faces and IDs. I’ve only seen that in Afghanistan when US forces were trying to control a local population.
John!!! How dare you make me emotional!! It's rough out here and seeing it first-hand over and again I think just got to me. It's also the realization of how long this pandemic is gonna be with us and how much more difficult it's going to get.
My team and I are fine and I appreciate your concern. I hope for equal justice under the law and will continue to report on this vital story as it unfolds.
Absolutely essential for
@sarasidnerCNN
and others to bear witness and show the world what’s happening out here. It’s not always pretty and we get it from all sides but truth will move this country to a better place.
Tested pos for covid today. A PCR test picked it up; rapid test yesterday was negative; both taken same time. I had J&J vax in Apr & Moderna boost in Nov. Guessing I got it while traveling this past week. Sitting in a room at home, the only symptom: boredom. Get vaccinated!
Tonight 9pm on
@CNN
. Photographer Andy Buck and I will show you what

medical staff are dealing with. They gave us access to their ER and hospital staff to talk about where they are and what’s coming. I give it up to them all for going to work every single day.
Just spoke to 4 separated parents who made bond and are now looking for their children. The parents have been handed a 32 page application to get custody of their own children that the government took away from them to begin with.
It becomes obvious as to why tension between police and some of its citizens, already simmering, so quickly turns to a boil. The Governor has apologized repeatedly for treatment of journalists. Our orgs have to court and won. But still the treatment continues. Who is in charge?
Vermont state capitol building this morning. Winooski river has created at nearly 21 feet (record was in 1927). About 4 feet of water moving fast on State Street. Can’t get across it’s moving so quickly.
No matter how many times I do these stories it’s still hard to believe that some Americans will not get vaccinated for whatever reason. Thanks to
@bonkapp
@CarolynSungCNN
@bobnebel
and Albert Lutan for helping get this together
Some in law enforcement clearly view reporters as part of the problem and are trying to force us to commit to their controls regardless of basic rights.
Very powerful scene
@uva
tonight. Thousands on the south lawn. A vigil to those dead and injured in a mass shooting here. The jersey numbers of the dead football players posted throughout campus. 1, 15 and 41.
Have just heard the awful news that our CNN colleague Drew Griffin has died from cancer. Such a shock! Deepest condolences to his family. Here’s part of CNN CEO Chris Licht’s note.
Minneapolis protester: “We're trying to ... stand up for the basic rights of humanity. … I want to be able to go in a white neighborhood and feel safe. I want to be able, when a cop is driving behind me, I don't have to clench and be tense, OK? I want to be able just to be free”
Thank you John!!! And many thanks to

JUST NOW: "Overwhelmed."

Watch and share. I don't know if people realize this is happening.
@NewDay
Thank you doctor
@joevaron
. Was eye opening to spend the day with you and see just a slice of what you deal with every day. Hope to see you in better times.

There has “been an exponential increase on the severity of illness and in the number of cases we admit,” an official from the hospital says.
Thanks Brian. Dunno why that one of all the ones I've covered was so difficult. Maybe the realization of how much loss, pain and suffering there has been and how much more we have to go. It is going to be a long, hard slog to the end of this pandemic.
After his report from an overwhelmed Texas hospital,

was overcome with emotion. "I'm sorry,"
@JohnBerman
told him. "I know it's not easy to be around so much stress, and you keep on doing it." Marquez credited producer

A significant move to blunt the Russian offensive. “The Biden administration is moving to significantly expand the intelligence it is providing to Ukraine’s forces.”

Senator Warren says she believes Lucy Flores’s accusations and that Joe Biden needs to answer questions about what happened. Won’t say he shouldn’t run.

Piles of ruined books outside Montpelier’s Bear Pond Books. Shop has been here 50 years. No flood insurance but an army of volunteers now helping to save what’s left. One of thousands of businesses across the Green Mountain State just now grappling with loss and the way ahead.
Goodbye for now Twin Cities. It’s been terrifying, edifying and inspiring. Here’s to real, lasting and just change born from a very difficult few weeks.

Great piece. Qanon sounds like a social Ponzi scheme where the lonely and disaffected have formed a community that likes their posts. Self-fulfilling and must continue recruiting those sitting at home online. A pandemic is sort of perfect breeding ground.
Coronavirus has taken his father and seven other family members. Now it’s taken away his livelihood. CNN’s Miguel Marquez has more on one family’s heartache.
The unintended consequences of war. Putin may be weaker abroad and at home regardless of how things end in Ukraine. He’ll pay a very high price and get only instability in return.
Really something to see what a NYC ER looks like these days. Heart goes out to show up at work there every day. They are the front line and last line of defense. Thanks to

“It’s a medical war zone,” says a doctor at Brookdale Hospital.
Here is an inside look at this New York City hospital that has been pushed to the brink amid the coronavirus crisis.
Once out of DHS custody, HHS (which has custody of their children) is treating the kids as though the separated kids in their care were “unaccompanied minors” except that they weren’t. These kids were accompanied by their parents and the government knowingly separated them.
Now HHS is treating these parents like anyone else claiming a relationship to an unaccompanied minor. They are making these parents basically fill out a security background check in order to get their kids back even though it was the government that separated them.
JABits Center. DONE!! J&J. Thinking of the medical professionals and families I’ve met over the last year who have been so deeply affected by this horrible pandemic. Getting the shot was so easy. After the horror of the last year it felt like an unsatisfying Hollywood ending.
If they have to go through the full process of establishing their relationship to the child. ALL this could have been avoided had the administration given some thought to the practicality of separating thousands of families.
The government never thought to ensure parental relationship when they separated the families. It only occurred to them to do it afterwards. With a deadlines looming there is no way any parents who have bonded out will be able to get their kids back in a reasonable time
