Contrails stop forming for the same reason clouds have edges. The plane has flown into a region of air (warmer, or less humid) where contrail formation is not possible. This is especially noticeable with aerodynamic contrails like this, as they are more sensitive to conditions.

Two time-stamped original photos of the Twentynine Palms "UFO" over 19 seconds show a distinct descent from 2021:04:20 20:24:01 to 20:24:20. Overlaid with much later image, shows a MASSIVE descent, movement, and position change. Flares.

To be fair to the Skinwalker Ranch team, analysis in the field (a 3,600 mph craft) is sometimes tricky. Back at the command center the team reviewed the raw footage on a big screen, nobody spotted the wings flapping, and Travis concluded it was actually a 3.6 MILLION MPH craft.

How hard is it for a 6'2" person to grab the wheel of a Chevy Tahoe/Suburban (like the "Bunker") from the center row right seat, while putting your other hand on the driver's clavicle? Not hard at all. Doesn't mean it happened, but it means it could have.

UFO hunting technology proposals might want to reconsider the focus on super-zoom cameras. Hard to use, expensive, won't help much at night. Focus on triangulation. 2 or 3 cheap full-sky stations separated by around 2km would let you get a 3D motion track, with speed. UFO proof.
