- screwed Greece
- nightmarish industrial policy
- made Europe reliant on Russian gas
- oversaw the creation of the debt brake
- neglected infrastructure and development investment
- delayed gay marriage for years, voted against it
She kicked many cans down many roads.
A lot of people lump Manchin and sinema together but Manchin frankly had the right to do whatever he wanted after winning as a Democrat three times in West Virginia whereas sinema was annoying for no reason in a state many democrats have won lately
Joe Manchin won three times in a ruby red state: 2010 (special), 2012 and 2018.
Without him, the last decade and a half in DC would look very different:
—Trump & Republicans would have the votes to repeal ACA in 2017
—No Democratic Senate majority in 2021-2022 = no ARP, IRA;
Whitmer is super close to hitting a double digit margin. That would not only mean that she’s outperforming her 2018 win, but she’s doing better than *Obama 2012*
Enough dooming for me: Michigan currently has a petition drive circulating to repeal the state’s abortion ban and keep abortion legal with or without Roe
It’ll be on the November ballot if it gets enough signatures. If you’re a Michigan voter click the link below for info:
next time someone says voting doesn't matter, remember that if it weren't for 17,117 voters — 0.24% of Arizona's population — Arizona would be the next Florida
One really cool feature of the DC metro map is that, at multilevel transfer stations, the line that is on the top level of the map is also the line that’s physically on the upper level of the station
It’s funny that online centrists are like “noooooo Tim Walz is too progressive to balance the ticket” and Joe Manchin is like “this dude rocks let’s go”
Democrats will hold at least one Hudson Valley seat: the 18th District, where current 19th District Rep. Pat Ryan is running. Tough sledding in NY17 and NY19 though.
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) has officially announced his 2024 gubernatorial bid.
State Treasurer Dale Folwell (R) is the only other Republican in the race, but Rep. Mark Walker (R-06) is also considering a bid, per reporting from

NEW: Fabian Basabe campaigned as a moderate Republican who was pro-choice, pro-LGBTQ and pro-gun control. His votes in Tallahassee haven't reflected that.
Now, ahead of a planned protest today, he faces an allegation that he slapped an aide.
I remember Jon Ralston saying that Cortez Masto would narrowly win as Sisolak loses because of her overperforming with independents and being ruthlessly mocked for it, and now that seems like pretty much what’s gonna happen
“7-2 opinion by Thomas:” oh no which of the libs jumped ship on this
“Reverses the fifth circuit”: wait a second
“Alito in dissent”: HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAA
Third (and last) decision is CFPB.
For 7-2 Court, Justice Thomas *reverses* Fifth Circuit; upholds CFPB funding scheme.
Alito, joined by Gorsuch, dissents:
The burden of proof falls on the ACCUSED under British libel law
There’s an infamous case where a Holocaust denier sued a professor for calling him a Holocaust denier and the burden was on the professor to prove that the Holocaust was real
The fact that Switzerland still hasn’t legalized same sex marriage makes a lot more sense when you consider they didn’t give women the right to vote until 1971
Democrats in a tossup district: goes out of their way to market themselves to all voters as a reasonable and calm person
Republicans in a tossup district: send a text out saying that the recipient’s child is scheduled for gender reassignment surgery
It’s worth remembering that a big reason why Glenn Youngkin was ever elected governor is that the Virginia Republican Party had to switch a convention system to nominate him since they knew that if they held a primary their voters would nominate Amanda chase
If I had a nickel for every Utah senator with an anonymous twitter account, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
So it turns out the "Based Mike Lee" twitter account is actually Mike Lee's personal account, per

This means a sitting US senator has, likely for the first time ever, claimed to be "bussin"
Especially considering the current composition of SCOTUS it would probably be wise for the new Dem trifectas in Michigan and Minnesota to get rid of these dormant sodomy bans
I don’t expect them to be actively pro Biden, they’re a newspaper they’re allowed to challenge the president. I do expect them to not go out of their way to be negative to Biden in all their coverage
The “Allred is a horrible candidate who isn’t campaigning” thing is such a classic case of an ET trope somehow becoming conventional wisdom on here despite having no basis in reality

asks Psaki whether Biden has considered encouraging Americans to live a healthier lifestyle amidst a pandemic that is killing people with obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc.
Apparently not, as she deflects instantly to vaccines and masks.
I think extrapolating Election Day turnout is generally a fool’s errand, but if I had to pick two states where dem turnout would be especially low it would probably be the one with no statewide elections at all and the one where they’ve been getting demolished in the early vote
It's pretty apparent from precinct-level data in VA and county-level data in FL that Democrats have a turnout problem today - one that's unlikely to be solved in the next six hours.
In a solo concurrence, Clarence Thomas declares his belief that racial gerrymandering claims should be deemed non-justiciable political questions, permanently prohibiting federal courts from scrutinizing allegedly racist redistricting.

, one of the two truly close seats left. Adam Gray (D) is going to need a great performance in what's left of Stanislaus Co. (Modesto).
Rick Scott says if the GOP retakes the Senate, it may force a shutdown unless Biden repeals his own signature party-line bill.
(Spoiler alert: That repeal won't happen.)
That DeSantis is “just the same guy” as Trump is bonkers and perverse on every level—DeSantis is a policy maven who is successfully governing a major state w/ no unnecessary drama, while never once having tried to overturn an election
>be Gary peters
>have your seat eliminated by the state GOP specifically to take you out
>run in a 56% black seat as a white incumbent
>win
>immediately give up that seat and win a senate seat
And with that, democrats officially regain their majority in the Michigan House after a five month long hiatus caused by two former representatives winning mayoral races back in November
thinking about the only Democratic primary voter in Loving County, Texas who voted for a total random person for president and left every other race blank
