A very good friend of mine asked if I could call round today. When I got to his house. I was presented with this. He has had no shows in the area for the last 2 yrs to display and he wanted someone to see his hard work. A large Gold in my eyes.👍

My onions are all lifted, washed and powdered and are now sitting on my bench in the shed The biggest is 27" around and weighed 10.5lbs. A little better than the ones I noted in my diary on August 1979, how advanced growing has become.

A proud and moving moment for me today as President of The National Vegetable Society when I presented my wife Gwenda with a Gold Medal, the highest NVS award for all the work she has done for the Society over many years including being the rock behind me in my endeavours.

Just pulled my first onion from the trial bed of four varieties I videod few weeks ago, one of each. This is Toughball and ready well ahead of the others for 250g class. Measured just under 11 inches weighs 254g. Should loose the 4 grams as it dries out. Another 4 to pull soon.

After receiving the news about the moving of Chelsea flower show to September. We have had to make a few hard decisions. I have also decided to do more to help people to grow their own. So will now do more videos of us growing for Chelsea in September from seed to harvest.👍

Well after pulling the carrots yesterday, spent most of last night thinking about the parsnips. So first thing this morning had to pull one.👍🤩. Will pull all the long rooted veg next week and see how it all worked.

The heaviest onion was won by Peter Glazebrook with 16.7lbs and Joe Atherton second with an onion 15.3lbs . ‘There’s a lot of onion rings in them there onions’

Even though I’ve had the disappointment of Chelsea being cancelled, every cloud has a silver lining. I was told this week that we have won the Gordon Lennox Trophy for the best display of vegetables in 2019 at any RHS show that year. Stay safe and healthy, will do a video soon.

The Welsh Championships NVS are a perfection of quality vegetables grown and shown to their optimum. I managed to win the parsnip class which I’m very pleased about as it’s a hat-rick at the Welsh Champs.

The long beet are not the easiest to grow to a high standard with the crown very often cracking and spoiling the exhibit

The carrot on the left was grown in the barrels and the carrot on the right was just pulled from the pipes am really happy with the results so far. The carrot on the right is 4 weeks younger.👍

I was very happy with the long roots yesterday with the long black beet and our New Parsnip coming First. The new parsnip is currently just a number and will be named soon. Had First as well with the leeks, all at the NVS Welsh Championships at Wrexham

The three heaviest onions as a group weighed 20.8kg was won by the veteran onion grower Peter Glazebrook and the heaviest onion was grown by ajojn Handrahan-cook with a weight of 7.12kg. Could make some nice onion rings!!

My positives from 2020. Managed to grow a 25" onion in 15L pot and have managed to find out how to grow celery with this fantastic colour hydroponically. Had some great results using Autopot AQUAValve 5 system and one of the few times working together as family with my grandsons
