So thankful for the opportunity to review this amazing work by
@FellipeDoVale1
!!! He’s doing incredible work and helping pave a way forward in a theological understanding of gender
Men in the church: please don’t neglect the ability you have to champion the ministerial gifting of women in your lives. It matters so much!
A (female) friend & I spent 15 minutes today raving about the impact that the support of certain male ministers has had on our ministries.
Every convention, various female scholars from all over the SBC get together and encourage one another, and I’m so thankful every time. Love this group of women so much!!
@TheSocietyNOBTS
A lil life update to kick off 2023:
I’ve accepted the role of Associate Director at
@nolametrobcm
& will get to once again do campus ministry at Tulane & Loyola here in New Orleans!!! I’m so excited for the opportunity to serve these campuses as I continue to work on my PhD :)
ETS 2023 is a wrap!!!!
I always underestimate how encouraging this conference is, but it’s such a gift to be surrounded by such incredible people that God is using so greatly 💕
Until next time!!!
The older I get and the more I study, I’m less impressed by lofty speech and I’m much much more impressed by those who can present really complex topics in really simple ways
The SBC annual meeting is truly the biggest family reunion out there!! These sweet faces are a fraction of the people I that I have been so encouraged by these past few days. So thankful for this little corner of the church 🩵🩵
@JackiCKing
@TaraBDew
100% echo the sentiments of the support received here
@NOBTS
. Every class, as an MDiv student and now as a PhD-Theology student, I’ve experienced nothing but respect and encouragement. It’s been so restorative and such a gift.
@JackiCKing
I wanted a Christian counseling degree. I ended up with an MDiv and a PhD, and I felt supported by faculty and respected by my peers no matter whether I was in a preaching, theology, or counseling class, masters or doctoral.
I just want the world to know I sat here in the middle of a tornado reading Bavinck’s Reformed Ethics like a good little PhD student. This is not to be commended, I am silly and in dire need of a break from school😂
The church is desperately in need of leaders who are charitable, slow to speak, and slow to anger
I don’t know much about the way forward in these days, but I know this
So often I miss what the Lord is actually doing because I’m fixated on what I’d prefer Him to do. Unmet expectations so easily distract us from the work the Lord is inviting us into
Sometimes the PhD/full time collegiate ministry combo means that I leave my philosophical and theological anthropology seminar to zoom to the other side of town to ride a mechanical bull at a welcome week event!! It’s called balance!!!!
Just submitted my last paper of the semester and my first year of PhD work is officially over 🎉🎉🎉
This year has been so exhausting and challenging, but the Lord has been so incredibly kind and I’m so so thankful 😭
Prayer walked around NOLA yesterday with some of my
@NOBTS
peeps. It was a sweet time of prayer with and for those in our city, and ya can’t beat the scenery either 😍
.
@meaganstedman
is so Southern Baptist that when she broke up with her last boyfriend, she told him “we are no longer in friendly cooperation with one another”
I’m about to spend the next week coaching CRU staff through a Biblical Interpretation course and prayers are appreciated! This course combines two of my favorite things: campus ministers and studying scripture, and I’m already so excited for what a gift this will be 😭😭
I turn 27 today and am just filled with immense thankfulness for the life the Lord has given me. I get to live, learn, and serve in the coolest city ever. I have the sweetest community imaginable. The Lord has been so so good to me 😭
It’s been the sweetest start of the semester at BCM!! Everyone please pray that we’d steward this opportunity well and point the students of Tulane and Loyola to Christ!
My goal is to get as much PhD work done as I can over this break to maximize parade attendance over the next couple months, everyone pray for me in this endeavor 😂 Getting your PhD in NOLA has its unique challenges
I am 100% where I am today, because of men who championed my gifting and passion for ministry. In a church world where women’s gifting and ministerial leadership is not always upheld, the support of a few key men has meant the world to me.
Shoutout to
@mbird12
for writing the first systematic theology book that I’ve ever read that made me laugh out loud (because of the wit, not the doctrine)
Visited Mobile this weekend to see
@QuintAdkins
lead worship at
@FUGECamps
!! This was my first time being at a Fuge Camp since I was a student about 10 years ago, and I’m so thankful for this ministry’s valuable investment in the lives of young people!!
Just got back to NOLA after Collegiate Week, one of favorite weeks of the year. So thankful for a week of encouragement, fried pies, and time with my incredible collegiate ministry co-laborers from all over the country!!
I’m absolutely intolerable when I help with children’s church because one of the kids will say, well intentioned, something like “Jesus wasn’t perfect either though was he?”
And I’m like “Alright kids lemme tell you about something called a Christological heresy”
I recently found a small (not serious) melanoma on my leg & my doctor decided to inform me that he had sufficiently removed it & my tests were clear by sending me an in-app message with the two simple words “all out”. In case anyone wanted to know what NOLA healthcare is like!!
Day 1 of my Research and Writing course for my PhD program and so far I have learned that I am actually illiterate and I have never written anything good ever
Stay tuned for more fun little insights that I glean this week 👀🥰
Currently heading to Oklahoma for one of my favorite events of the year, Collegiate Week 🎉 Be praying for college ministers and students as we prepare our hearts for the upcoming school year!!
Got back in New Orleans just in time to get into a car wreck (everyone is okay) and have to try to figure out a ton of logistics so I can still visit my family for the holidays :/ it’s just a headache I wasn’t anticipating, prayers are appreciated!!
ETS hasn’t even felt real because the rest of the semester has been so busy, but now it’s here and I can’t wait to see everyone!!! 🎉😍
See you all in San Antonio!!!
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful. It does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth…
My favorite thing about trips to Nashville is getting to see all my people, and
@TaraBDew
is one of the best!!! (And the only one that helps me remember to take photos)
This is me, coming before religious news outlets, pleading that they stop using this photo of me from the convention. It’s made it to my (not very sbc) family’s group chat, it’s gone too far 😂😂😂
We’re gearing up for another year at BCM here in New Orleans!!
If you have a moment: We’d welcome your prayers for the coming school year! Pray for the students of Tulane and Loyola, and for us as we try to love them well and point them to Christ during their time here 💕
Y’all this has been one of the coolest welcome weeks I’ve been a part of here at Tulane and Loyola! The Lord is moving so much, please continue to pray for these campuses!
My seminar paper is submitted and presented
I’m listening to Taylor Swift to prep for her concert in a week or so
It’s peak pretty spring weather in NOLA currently
Life is so so good right now
Getting my PhD is so interesting because, as in every other stage of my academic career, I have to leave events early to go study. But now I’m 27, I somehow feel even lamer, and it’s a three year old’s birthday party that I’m having to leave early.
Some days I’m overwhelmed by how hard it is to balance full time ministry and PhD work, and other days I’m hit by what a privilege it is to do these things that the Lord has so faithfully brought me to. Today is the latter, and I’m just overwhelmed by the Lord’s goodness 😭
I turned 28 on Tues in the midst of one of the coolest semesters I’ve had in ministry. Today I’m thanking God & reflecting on the privilege that this ministry is. When young Meagan was dreaming of how she might serve the Lord, He had far more in mind than she could have imagined
Today I was on campus & 2 students frantically came up to us w/ cameras & said “Have you seen a squirrel? Our theory is that we can make a squirrel smile” & then ran away when we pointed them in the proper direction
In case you were wondering what campus ministry in NOLA is like
Just finished
@danitreweek
‘s book, and it’s such a gift to the church! She articulates such a theologically & eschatologically rich view of the role of singleness in the life of the church that challenged me theologically & personally as I live out my own single state!
In light of what’s happening on many college campuses, we’re having a prayer night tonight at BCM. If you have a moment, pray for the campuses of Tulane and Loyola in New Orleans!!
Today the association of churches that support our BCM work in NOLA (
@joinnoba
) showed up strong to see a preview of what
@nolametrobcm
has planned for Fall 23 and how they can join us! I love the local church!
Mardi Gras season is over, but that just means that crawfish season is steadily approaching. There is truly not a bad time of year when you live in New Orleans
Only in NOLA would a random person ask if they can sit at a two person table in a coffee shop with you! No concept of personal space in this sweet city of mine lol
Just sat with a college freshman as she shared her joy in discovering the unique fulfillment that comes from helping others grow in knowledge of God, and her recognition that this is what God created her to do
God is working on college campuses, and my job is an absolute gift 😭
Thank you
@BethMooreLPM
for sharing your story!! I lost count of how many times I cried throughout this book (tears of grief as well as tears in awe of God’s providence). Your story is such a gift to the church and I’m so thankful for your example of faithfulness
Whoop!! We made it to the end of the semester and celebrated our seniors!!!! College ministry is full of change and transitions but I wouldn’t trade it for anything 🥺
