This person gets it. Webtoon cutting YJH's scenes is troubling, because if expressing genuine grief after the death of someone you care about is seen as “too gay”, then it suggests that men expressing emotions is still being unfairly stigmatized in this society. It's sad.
#orv
Homophobic ORV readers, sorry to burst your bubble but that “my lover” part is just a bad translation. In the novel it was mentioned that people are stories—parents, friends and lovers are all stories.
It wouldn't even make sense because he also called JHW and LSH as parents.

Yoo Joonghyuk declared, "Get lost, Kim Dokja."
Then one of the stars in the sky really went out.

I was supposed to post this on Valentine but I just can't resist it, they're just so cute! 🥰

No hate on doksoo btw, I respect the ship and I have doksoo shipper friends that I love.
It's the ACTUAL HOMOPHOBES rejoicing about it that pisses me off.
Dokja was obviously talking about the story. And they're obviously not a couple. Reading comprehension where?
What's sadder is they chose to appease those homophobic readers, whose masculinity and egos are probably too fragile to the point of discriminating a man for expressing emotions, like really?
And this is another reason why I hate homophobes to the core. Sorry not sorry.
#joongdok
vampire AU where 100 year-old vampire Joonghyuk turned his human lover Dokja into a vampire due to his request because he wanted to help Joonghyuk feed on (his) blood without repercussions and not starve himself anymore. But then villagers found out about the ancient...
We didn’t get the “Let’s meet again Yoo Joonghyuk” and instead it was changed to “Live on, Yoo Joonghyuk.” I know it's just like in the revised e-book, but still makes me sad. The original had more emotional impact. And the changes were made because of homophobic dudebros too. 🥲
@cvnide
Or “Kim Dokja is necessary in this world. I need him.” or “In this damn world where coins represented all values and the constellations decided the development of the world, I still needed Yoo Jonghyuk. Thus, I would protect him today.”
And same here, I don't ship them just because they're both males, in fact I never shipped two male characters so hard prior to them. It's because of their bond. With joongdok you can really feel their enduring love for each other across all timelines. It's a love that saves.
I mean, there's a reason why he asked her to initiate the attack on him. He believed she will be able to kill him without hesitation—because he thinks she doesn't have any attachment to him.
Come on. 🤷♀️

But what he doesn’t know is that Joonghyuk was just actually wondering about two things: (1) whether he has already met him before; (2) where his wounds and bruises came from.
They say that the red string of fate connects two souls who are destined to meet one another. And that no matter what happens, they will find each other. In every circumstance, in every lifetime.
In that moment of anguish, Joonghyuk learns a devastating truth: Guwon is not merely a demon but Kim Dokja, his beloved childhood bestfriend. He survived the massacre only to be transformed into a demon against his will.
As his sword sunk deeper onto his heart, something caught his attention—a familiar hourglass necklace hidden inside the collar of Guwon’s dress shirt, now exposed and gleaming under the sunset.
The very same one Kim Dokja gave him as a friendship necklace when they were kids.
In ORV Chapter 221, they were supposed to be mourning and Lee Hyunsung was supposed to comfort a depressed Yoo Joonghyuk first before he said that he won't give up on this life. Why do most of KimCom seem like they've already moved on from KDJ's death after crying for a bit? 🥲🥲
[TO BE CONTINUED]
📝Thank you for reading up to this point. This high school / reincarnated AU has been sitting on my drafts for awhile now, so I'm so glad to have finally started it. This will include a lot of reference from the novel.
Please stay tuned for my next update!
Consumed by self-loathing for the innocent lives he accidentally took when he awakened and lost control of himself, Dokja sought death as redemption for his perceived monstrosity.
This brutal loss left Joonghyuk with deep-seated trauma and an unwavering hatred for demons—driving him to continously seek vengeance by killing every demon who crosses his path.
@mini_cini98
Facts. I wonder what happened? They did it here, why weren't they able to do it at the Demon King arc? They had the chance to go all out and make YJH show all kinds of desperate facial expressions...instead of a blank one when he said “Kim Dokja.” 🥹

[The constellation 'Demon King of Salvation' is looking at you.]
Yoo Joonghyuk declared, "Get lost, Kim Dokja."
Then one of the stars in the sky really went out.
"…Kim Dokja?"
There was no answer from Kim Dokja.
Now 28, his quest takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Guwon, the self-proclaimed Demon King of Salvation, who offers to help him achieve his goal. Joonghyuk is initially skeptical, unable to fathom why a demon would aid him in his mission.
Until he eventually just...let him be there, tolerating his existence despite his annoyance. His party members seem to be fond of him after all, especially the kids.
But then he saw his eyes, begging him to just end his suffering. “Joonghyuk-ah, please.”
He trembled, hearing Dokja address him in that way again after more than a decade.
Whatever they did to Guwon, Joonghyuk has no idea, but now he realized that both of them has deep-seated trauma and personal grudges against these demons. They are indeed similar, somehow.
But what caught his attention was when Guwon screamed in rage while attacking the boss, losing his composure as he talked about retribution for what they did to him.
The Rule of 100 Cycles states that when a hundred years have elapsed, souls that have lost their corporeal vessel are reborn, gaining another vessel, and another journey doth begin anew.
Through all of these, it was Guwon who fought side by side with him, keeping him sane and grounded so that he wouldn't be totally clouded by rage—helping him avoid committing any fatal mistakes.
Suspecting ulterior motives, he grudgingly declines Guwon's help, always pushing him away despite his continuous help during their battles. Threatening him that he will kill him every single time.

“We've finally reached this moment. We're finally here, Yoo Joonghyuk,” he says with a melancholic smile.
Guwon then extends his arms, inviting Joonghyuk to come closer.
Their alliance strengthens, and so is their bond, as much as he hates to admit it.
After all, if not for Guwon's help, many of his party members would have already died. But thanks to him, they all made it this far alive.
Despite his continuous rejection of him, Guwon continuously appeared in his every battle, helping him and his party members defeat demons after demons—even saving their lives in the process.
But, as he approached Guwon to ask if he's alright, he finds him standing at the edge of the cliff. Terrified, he asks him why. Their party members shouts from a distance as well.
As they fought side by side through countless battles, Joonghyuk is continually surprised by Guwon's unwavering loyalty, despite his own deep-seated mistrust.
With a heavy heart, Yoo Joonghyuk delivers the fatal blow by sinking the remaining length of the sword, honoring his beloved friend's final wish while grappling with the pain of having lost him once more.
Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk are like asymptotes. Within over a thousand lifetimes, they were always by each other’s side, choosing each other every time—whether as an avid reader of the other’s 3149 chapters of struggles, as a constellation sponsor and incarnation of each other
However, as Joonghyuk raises his sword, tears stream down his face. He doesn't understand. Why is he crying? Isn't this his end goal? To kill every last one of them?
With heavy steps and trembling hands, Joonghyuk approaches him as he pulled out his sword from its scabbard. He remembers when demons clawed at his mother's intestines. When they bit his father in half. How they feasted on his little sister Mia's body.
@kyoruyeye
Them if you've read the novel. Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk from Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. They literally call each other "Life and Death Companions" and to me it's just like a marriage vow as if saying "till death do us part" and another term for "and they were roommates" 😆
Now that they’re here, Joonghyuk goes all out with blind rage as he attacks all these powerful demons, inflicting serious damage on them with every slice. Expressing every anger, vengeance and guilt that he had repressed throughout the years.
After a very grueling and bloody battle, they defeated the final boss together, thanks to their synchronous attacks. Their party members defeated the other remaining demons too.
The kids starts crying as well, and their party members tried to stop them, but to no avail, as Guwon himself created a barrier, preventing them from interfering.
But just as asymptotes are symbolically said to touch at x = infinity, Yoo Joonghyuk will always love Kim Dokja desperately for all eternity, and so does Kim Dokja.
@cvnide
I believe he's inspired from Azathoth, an Outer God from Lovecraftian/Cthulhu mythos. The Outer Gods are mostly based from the Outer Gods from Lovecraftian mythos, just like how Olympus gods were based from Greek Mythology. But yes it's a brilliant concept indeed. 🥹💕
***************************************************
“Demon King of Salvation, I shall pray that you may continue to exist somewhere too,” Yoo Joonghyuk utters with a truly strange and mistifying expression. He then looks at his hands as his body scattered into silvery powder.
during 0th regression, and finally as Life and Death Companions. Their fates always keep getting close to each other, but never actually overlapping—as if they were always doomed to diverge in the end.
But what if they were given another chance to make it right this time? If they met at a more peaceful, less demanding world as just young, highschool dorm roommates, would things have been different? Or will their sinister pasts be back to haunt them?
@cvnide
I gotta agree though, 'cause there were many interactions with him that they cut and they made him appear as an emotionless MC during the Demon King arc. When he said “Kim Dokja.” while supporting KDj's shoulder, his face was blank, like whut. 😭 He was desperate in the novel.

Suddenly, he abruptly opens his eyes, gasping for air.
“It’s that nightmare again,” Yoo Joonghyuk sighs, wiping his sweat as he sat on his bed. The sunlight from the window harshly greeting his face.

Almost every other night, he gets these random dreams of scenes that he never experienced, but felt too real to be just a figment of his imagination. In them, Seoul is in ruins, and he is usually fighting strange, mythical beings and monsters that you would only see in fantasy...
novels. Memories and visions from a past life, perhaps, he eventually considered—as he is aware of the apocalypse that had transpired in the history of mankind more than a hundred years ago. He has read them in their library's textbooks, and the description just felt too similar.
@nasykuching
I agree! I know the webtoon is only basing on the ebook, but even on the ebook YJH held onto KDJ desperately, which we didn't see.
And I'm upset about the ebook too. Even the “Kim Dokja! No! Kim Dokja!” was removed as if display of grief would automatically make YJH gay? 🤷♀️
Oftentimes, his dreams include a certain pale, beautiful young man with a gentle smile and starry eyes usually clad in a white trench coat, fighting alongside him. Occasionally his face is obscured, and sometimes it isn't.
Joonghyuk, heartbroken, decided to live in solitude away from people as he waits for Dokja's reincarnation once more, enduring the curse of immortality, no matter how many hundreds or thousands of years it would take.
“Ah…you must be my new roommate. Hi,” the smaller boy said softly.
A strange surge of emotions suddenly enveloped Joonghyuk. Something he couldn’t quite explain. His heart churned, a heavy feeling looming over him as he stared longingly at the boy who just arrived.

There are also a lot of JD shippers in SKorea actually, since there are also a lot of fanartists and there's even a JoongDok Only event.
Sadly, the creators chose to adjust to the homophobics. Disappointing, because they're not the ones who are spending on merch 😬
Strangely enough, there are also times when the same man appears with a pair of black wings and a pair of horns protruding from his forehead. A demon? He hoped not. The man felt too warm to be evil, at least in his dreams. Or should he just call them nightmares?
The smaller boy has so much piled up trauma it seems, to the point that he was instantly convinced that this newly transferred student and roommate would probably make his dorm life a living hell too.
@ai21_react19
Yeah, that's why it was a bad translation too because in the novel it was "lovers" and not "my lover". 😔 And I agree, it's also kinda coincidental that it fell upon HSY.
And oh, SleepyC is a JoongDok shipper. She said it in a panel interview in France last time.
He has been anticipating this day, so why let another nightmare ruin it?
‘Demon King of Salvation, huh. Is he like…my sleep paralysis demon? Fucking bastard.’ he groaned to himself.
Just as he was settling in, somebody entered the door, and Joonghyuk was met with a pair of lifeless, obsidian eyes staring at him—belonging to a pale and thin yet beautiful young boy with black hair and some bandages on his face and hands.
Now that he thinks about it, he had always wondered why there's a big space beside his great grandfather on that group portrait. It’s as if they intentionally left a space for someone who isn't there?
“Joonghyuk, let's go.”
“Oh- Yes, I’m coming.”
Because at times, he wakes up gasping for air, heart pounding fast, especially when the man dies—either in the middle of a battle, or by his own hands…
“Kriiiing!!! Kriiiing!!”
‘Ugh, I almost forgot. It’s today.’ His thoughts were cut off as he grumpily stood up from his bed to turn off his alarm clock.
‘I know I just met him, but why does he feel so strangely familiar? Looking at him makes me feel…nostalgic somehow. There’s a certain ache in my chest that I couldn’t explain. It’s as if I’ve already known him in another place, in a previous lifetime…
“Roommate? I wasn’t told that I'd have one.”
“Seoul High School for the Arts’ dormitory only have shared rooms. Don’t worry, he’s a nice and quiet boy. He’s a scholar, so he’s mostly busy reading or working at his part time-job. He wouldn’t disturb you. Please be nice to him.”
