Every building mentioned I’ve either lived in, my friends lived in, I had classes in, worked in, walked by countless times. Just awful hearing them in this context. I hope they end this soon.
The response from Michigan is so classically arrogant. They are not denying it and daring the B1G to punish them by threatening a lawsuit if they do. And completely willing to throw any and everyone under the bus in the process. So on brand.
Here is a fun one, since the start of the season Cassius Winston has passed these players on the MSU all-time scoring list:
Charlie Bell
Keith Appling
Draymond Green
Drew Neitzel
Chris Hill
Mateen Cleaves
Mo Ager
Morris Peterson
Raymar Morgan
Denzel Valentine
Cassius Winston is currently averaging over 7 assists and 18 points per game. Here is the list of MSU players to average 7 assists and at least 15 points per game:
Magic Johnson
Mateen Cleaves
Denzel Valentine
Cassius Winston over the last five games:
24.4 points, 6.8 assists, 1.4 steals, 2.2 turnovers, shooting 50% overall and 50% from three, playing over 32 minutes per game.
MSU gave up 48 points in the month of November. They held three of their four opponents to 10 points or less.
Take out the nine points the offense/special teams gave up vs OSU and it’s 39 points allowed by the defense in four games. Less than 10 per game.
MSU went 2-2
Michigan State has a 30-5 conference record over the last two years. It is the first time MSU has won 30 conference games over a two year stretch, previous best was 29 won by the back to back Final Four teams of 2009 and 2010.
Cassius Winston was named first team All-American by the Sporting News. Other MSU players to be named Sporting News 1st team All-Americans:
Denzel Valentine
Draymond Green
Morris Peterson
Mateen Cleaves
Shawn Respert
Steve Smith
Scott Skiles
Sam Vincent
Magic Johnson
ESPN should have gotten Dave Warner for the coaches room.
“You see right here I would have run a jet sweep to the short side.”
All other coaches in room: “Yeah, we know Dave.”
Texas Tech is the number one kenpom defense. MSU has faced and beaten these other highly rated kenpom defenses:
#2
UM (x3)
#4
Wisconsin (x2)
#6
Duke
#16
Florida
#19
NWestern
#21
Maryland
Only loss in that range was
#17
Kansas in the first game of the year.
Based on his current pace, Cassius Winston is on pace to break Mateen Cleaves assist record in about 11 games...which would be the Jan 5th home game against Michigan.
Honestly MSU claiming a national title because of Lunardi and 538’s simulations would be at least as, if not more legit, than most of Alabama’s claimed football titles back in the day.
Let’s do it.
MSU just finished a stretch of 5 games in 12 days, with three of those on the road. The OTL story also broke on the first day of that stretch. They managed to win all of them. Ugly wins, sure, but wins.
Also something that should not be lost. Many, myself included where all over Izzo after the Syracuse loss last year. This year he's been incredible. He's re-invented this team twice in season and has done nothing but win. Incredible. HOF.
Guys I will admit it. I doubted. I was ready to bury them. I about lost it after the fake FG. But Dantonio just beat another top 10 team...on the road. The rumors of his demise were indeed premature.
Getting rolled by Michigan and then committing a bunch of personal fouls is some Bobby Williams/John L shit. This doesn’t even resemble the previous decade of MSU football.
MSU in in the midst of their toughest stretch of the season with 10 straight Tier A and B games, seven of which are A's. They are 7-0 so far, with an average margin of victory of 14.7 points.
So Haller wanted to fire Tucker immediately (the right call) and the “administration” didn’t let him.
Someone find out which Board members took that stance so we can get their asses out of here immediately.
So sick of those clowns fucking everything up.
My first year on campus was the 2001 basketball season. I’ve seen a lot of final four teams. This one is probably my favorite. I didn’t want it to end like this, no one did. But this team will always have a place in my heart. Spartans will.
A two seed, in Des Moines, in Dukes region. For the regular season and conference tournament champs of arguably the deepest conference in the country. That’s an absolute joke.
Big "if" coming up here but IF Michigan State can win Sunday and clinch a third straight Big Ten title they will have gone 46-12 (.793) in conference play over that three year run.
There is literally no harm in firing a coach this week. They aren’t doing anything anyway. At least show some accountability for this nonsense. Just a pathetic program on every level right now.
Dantonio made some awful decisions and is in no way absolved of criticism. The staff is his decision as well. Barring radical changes to what we have seen MSU is headed for a second massively disappointing season in three years. That’s on him.
It’s amazing how many Michigan fan trolls end up in the replies to almost any tweet from an MSU beat writer. I do not follow a single UM writer.
It’s often the same handful of guys but my lord trolling isn’t a career. Get a life. See your family. Be happy without hating.
Tonight was the best performance by the MSU return teams in probably ten years and it’s not even close. That area had been a barren wasteland at the end of the dantonio era. May have won them the game tonight.
Since joining the Big Ten MSU has the second most regular season titles with 15 (Indiana has 19)
Under Izzo MSU has more titles than any other school (9).
MSU also has more Big Ten tournament titles than any other school with five.
Cassius Winston is two assists away from tying the MSU single season record set by Mateen Cleaves in 1999. He has also currently posted the sixth highest scoring season in school history.
And today should have been the last straw for the injuries were the problem crowd.
A month of practice, nearly everyone except Davis back. And that was the result.
Get outta here.
Brady Quinn is ripping your play designs and calls during the game.
Correct me if I’m wrong but Kim has led one TD drive in three games against power five opponents. How can you even pretend to keep saying he’s the guy?
Eleven Michigan state lawmakers sent this letter to the Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti today urging him to “refrain from taking any premature measures” against Michigan:
I enjoy how UNC winning, a team MSU beat in a way they have never been beaten before, somehow hurts their seeding. But please tell me more about non-conference schedules and quadrants.
National media: Mel Tucker is the hottest coaching name and will be a candidate for every big job, how will MSU keep him?
MSU finds way to keep him.
National media:
Guys I’m just going to say that Goins is having a Suton-esque senior season right now. He’s been incredible and I will gladly eat the crow for doubting him.
Regardless of the committees screw job, I will never count this team out. And now they might be mad. These guys are gutsy as hell. Let’s do it. Go Green.
What even is this?
Is he literally picking fights with random people on twitter in an attempt to manufacture content for his show during all this?
Cause that’s what it looks like.
Won the Big Ten
Won the Big Ten Tournament
Beat Michigan three times
Beat Duke to make the Final Four
Still not done.
As it stands right this moment, this is the third greatest season in MSU history.
