Exactly 41 years before the tornado hit Marshalltown, an electrician marked his name in a piece of the courthouse tower as he worked on renovating it. Today, he got to see the relic again.

His body was located this morning at approximately 10:45 a.m. in a secluded area on the west side of Marshalltown. Our thoughts are with his family in this difficult time.
The T-R staff was all taking shelter, too, as the tornado tore past us. Then we did what we do best. We got boots on the ground and began collecting stories and photos.
A little over two years after Marshalltown was struck by a tornado another storm has inflicted widespread damage all over town. But, the spirit the held the town together then is still here today. The helpers are out and they are busy.
In 1958, the business moved from across the street to the current location. They carried everything across the street one night and opened the next morning.
"Parents please talk to your children and check your homes. If you have ever had any connection to Corey, please keep looking," Michelle Brown, his mother, said.
"When tragedy strikes, we want answers. We want accountability. There must be someone or something to blame .... I am sorry to say sometimes tragedy just happens," Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper writes in a guest column for the T-R.
Thousands of visitors made their way to the church to remember the late 13-year-old. The church was so full of people that the visitation was paused for the vigil and resumed after.
