I love how poetic Punjabi is. When you congratulate someone, you say “Vadhaiyaan” - which means “may your happiness be increased.” The response isn’t “thank you,” it’s “Savaa Vadhaiyaan.” Savaa is the number 1.5, so in essence the response means, “May your’s be increased more.”

As someone who lost their estranged father to alcoholism, this weekend is always tough. However, what makes it worse is seeing how alcohol-oriented Fathers Day ads and greeting cards are. Like thanks for glorifying addiction, and triggering the PTSD associated with it. Lol.

There’s a nightly rally in Surrey on Scott Rd and 72 Ave for the #FarmersProtest . We drive by tonight & my heart was touched. There was a Muslima holding a “Muslims for Sikhs” sign, a Black sister with a “Black Lives for Punjabi Farmers” sign, ans protesters serving hot chaa. ❤️

Answering Islamophobic hate with “I’m not Muslim” is basically saying “go attack them instead.” It also assumes that your assailant cares whether or not you’re Muslim. The basis of Islamophobia is and always has been white supremacy targeted at brown bodies.
