Hi.
This isn't where I planned to be today, but hey, better safe than sorry. Had vision loss and stroke-like symptoms today - best case it's just symptoms from stress, but they're giving me the full checkup to make sure it's nothing too serious.
Take care everyone.
If y'all want me to pronounce "Slic3r" as "slicer", I'm also going to start pronouncing "Simplify3D" as "simplified" and the "Prusa i3" as "Prushiiieee". Your call.
Cool cool cool. Creality are casually running an open laser cutter at
@formnext_expo
. If you're there, for your own safety, you may want to stay away from their booth and maybe have a casual word with the show's organizers.
Okay, I'm out!
This has been pretty much the scariest experience of my life: what started as a small visual glitch with a single crystal-like glistening spot in my vision quickly grew until it blinded out the entire right half of my vision. Then the headache started to set in.
As makers, we don't just have the power to create the world around us, but also to ourselves define who we are and what we stand for.
But if you decide to use that power to become someone who belittles people for being different from you, you're not a maker, but an asshole.
Thanks for all the good wishes everyone!
Except for a very slight headache, I feel like I'm back to normal - but I don't have a diagnosis yet and as it stands they want to keep me here in the hospital for a bit longer. I'll keep you all posted.
Man, I really miss the time when
@RealSexyCyborg
was still working with
@Creality3dP
.
Even after reading my terms, they wanted to:
- PAY me for a POSITIVE "review"
- Approve the ENTIRE script before I publish anything
- Sneak me a crowdfunding product that isn't released yet
Really makes you wonder why billion-dollar companies need massive crowdfunding campaigns for yet-another-Ender-3 when a maker like Ellie can manage to develop the Cocoa Press by herself and at the end just be like "yeah, you can order this now"
Okay, so my Peugeot e208 beeps every time it locks itself. It's a simple, short "beep-beep".
But: We hear that noise more often than we lock the car. Which is odd...
Turns out some bird has learned to reproduce the sound exactly - and it's driving my mom absolutely crazy 😂
Me: I don't review laser engravers that don't have an enclosure. They are dangerous for the user and illegal to import.
They: But is it still dangerous and illegal if we ship the laser separately?
Using slicers is cheating.
I only compile gcode by manually sketching out each layer on graph paper and manually inputting each movement into gcode in notepad.txt
Me: "Hi, I'm interested in acquiring a compact hatchback car. Please help me choose."
The internet: "No. You'll find that restoring a sunken 16th century sailing yacht is a much better choice!"
My dad (58) has just been admitted to the hospital with a suspected coronavirus infection, just a few days after he flew back from the US.
On the bright side, toilet paper is back in stock at many super markets 😶
Got contacted about potentially hosting a show on German TV. I instantly declined.
My home is grass-roots YouTube among a great community, not in an overproduced TV format.
Half of my local friends and family are currently knocked out by Covid.
Meanwhile, me, just having done an international event, feeling fit and testing negative:
I just sent out an obscene quote for a future NordVPN sponsorship on the channel. If it goes through, I'll use the cash to give away a dozen printers (and make my Patreon free for a month)😄
6 months ago, my dad was diagnosed with Covid-19. Even today, his sense of smell is still practically non-existant - and that's one of the milder cases of lasting damages.
Stay safe all of you!
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the death of one of our founding directors, Sanjay Mortimer, who passed away on Saturday 27th November -
So I'm heavily investing in my YouTube channel's future right now - renting and building out a studio and planning to hire folks to work with me.
Meanwhile, actual channel performance is tanking with every new video I upload. Which... is not worrisome in the slightest 😬
If 99 people give you a pat on the back and one person comes around and punches you in the face, you're going to have a broken nose. The 99 pats are appreciated, but they can't do anything to fix your nose.
In the end, it doesn't matter if it's fists or words.
@CrabsAndScience
Volkswagen's Spanish brand Seat are announcing they want to bring the electric sub-compact Cupra "Urban Rebel" to market in 2025. This thing is absolutely idiotic and ridiculous.
I love it.
And with 2021 over, I have the final viewcount for December: The channel managed almost 1.4M views, which means I'll be donating 1400€ in honor of Sanjay Mortimer to a charity of
@E3DOnline
's choice.
Thanks everyone who is also participating and thanks all for watching!
It's fascinating to see that Louis Rossmann is calling $70/sqft rent for space in NYC "fair" while at the same time I'm looking at office/studio space going for around 5€/m² - which is about $0.50/sqft !
Man, I love not having to live in a city.
And there it is! Tomorrow I'll be on a spontaneous road trip over to Prague to check out the MK4 - what burning questions do you have that I need to ask Jo and the team about?
Had a call with the mayor yesterday and I'm getting the feeling he's inconvenienced by people who have larger plans for their life than "work at the BMW factory, build a house, have two kids, die".
Time to look for a future elsewhere.
WE MADE IT! After 8 days and over 1000km of biking, me and my dad finally got to tip our toes in the north sea, right at the northmost point of Germany!

Being able to print "at project speed" is pretty dang cool. Think of a part, model it up, and by the time you actually need it it's done.
Voron 2.4 at 0.3mm, using DAS FILAMENT B-Stock PETG.
2 hours 41 minutes. 👍
My old table in the studio is worn and crooked, and I needed a flat, solid surface to... uhm... work on an upcoming build.
So new tabletop it is! Solid oak, two layers of hard-wax oil with a light whitewash effect 👍
