Dear
@ShashiTharoor
I came to know that I was cited by you in your recent book ‘Ambedkar: A Life.’ The citation says that I’m associated with
@SouthAsianUni
. I would like to inform you that a few days ago I was arbitrarily expelled from the university without any inquiry (1/3)
I have no words to express my gratitude for the love, affection and (of course) money I received in the last week. I never thought I would be able to collect such a large amount for my higher education at Oxford University. (1/3)
Portraying Pa Ranjith
@beemji
as an RSS/BJP stooge just because he questions the DMK government is a reflection of the Dravidian Model’s inability to understand the problems, needs and emotions of the Dalit people.
One thing I have learned at Oxford University is that the Savarnas here are experts in *performing* the role of an intellectual and marginalised person of colour from the global south. It comes to them effortlessly.
Today, I had the opportunity to meet Dr
@thirumaofficial
sir, a truly revolutionary leader who fights for the emancipation of the downtrodden. He congratulated me for securing admission to Oxford University and presented me with a biography of Arignar Anna. 😊
I was arbitrarily expelled along with
@umeshJoshi8
for demanding justice to a student still struggling for his life in ICU due to institutional harassment. It would be of great help if you could intervene and help us against this institutional violence committed by SAU (2/3)
🎓Excited to share that I’ve been awarded the
@OxIndiaCentre

Grateful for your support during my MPhil crowdfunding.
Also, don’t forget to vote for

Get out of your saviour/superiority complex. Get out of your Dravidian model bubble. Tamil Nadu is second to no other state in committing atrocities against Dalits.

This crowdfunding initiative has increased my responsibility towards society. It will prevent me from developing a sense of meritocratic hubris. I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to the

The South Asian University, in a vindictive manner, has arbitrarily suspended four professors for their alleged “misconduct.” Their “misconduct” was to question the dictatorial behaviour of the current university administration during the student protest in 2022. (1/2)

Sharing my piece on the recent incident at JNU where Chakravorty Spivak bullied a student for mispronouncing ‘Du Bois’. I discuss my similar experience during my school days and its devastating impact on me as a Dalit student.
During a recent lecture at JNU, renowned literary theorist Gayatri Spivak lashed out at an attendee for mispronouncing ‘DuBois’. It's not an innocent act but a tactic to remind the marginalised of their place in the social hierarchy, writes
@m_bhimraj
.
Excerpts from the Delhi High Court's judgment against the

As I am sure the Brahmanical administration will not take any action against the culprits, I request the
@NCSC_GoI
and
@DelhiPolice
to intervene and take appropriate action under the relevant provisions of the Sc/St Act. (2/10)
I also want to use this opportunity to highlight how exclusionary and casteist SAU is. The SAU doesn't follow reservations in recruitment and admissions due to its "international" status. There is not a single Dalit professor. (3/10)
The
@SouthAsianUni
page has become very active on social media recently and the admin is posting the achievements of the students (most probably to attract applications for new admissions). I request the admin to post my following achievements also. I was selected for the (1/3)
“The imperious tone, the constant reminder of status, whether based on age or of academic and social standing, is quite shocking to witness in an academic paper.”

The
@SouthAsianUni
has asked the incoming students to sign a general declaration/undertaking. The undertaking asks students to declare that they are not suffering from any “serious ailment or psychiatric/psychological disorder” (Clause 9). (1/3)
The SAU, which is supposed to recruit from all eight SAARC countries, has 90% of its teaching staff from India. Out of the 56 teaching staff, 50 are from India. There are no teaching staff from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives and Pakistan. ()
(4/10)
It might also be that thr is not a single Dalit student at SAU. I was the only Dalit PhD student in the SAU when the administration arbitrarily expelled me. The Inquiry Committee constituted after my expulsion was composed of Chaturvedi, Tripathi, Sinha, Sharma & Majumdar. (5/10)
Dear
@ShashiTharoor
you said you will help. We’re still waiting for your intervention. Recently, the
@SouthAsianUni
has arbitrarily expelled 2 more students and rusticated 2 students for one year. And our friend is still in hospital due to harassment from the SAU authorities.
Revolutionary congratulations to comrades Umesh and
@m_bhimraj
for winning against their arbitrary and authoritarian expulsion from South Asian University, for standing up and fighting for students, for hoping against hope! ✊
So, I request you to help me in any way possible to pursue my studies at the University of Oxford. And it would be of great help if you could share this message with your networks. If you have any queries, you can write to me at bhim.chess1995

I have been trying a lot to overcome the trauma inflicted by the
@SouthAsianUni
administration, and it manifests itself in unexpected ways in my day-to-day life. Sometimes, you don’t even know why you behave the way you do. (1/2)
The atrocities of the
@SouthAsianUni
administration is increasing every day. They have ordered the guards to evict the students who have been expelled/rusticated from the university. Few weeks ago myself and
@umeshreds
were denied entry inside the campus. Is this not harassment?
The Dvija castes dominate the SAU administration: the President (Aggarwal), Proctor (Sharma), and Director of Admissions (Jain). Most of the teaching staff are also from the Dvija castes. (6/10)
@ShashiTharoor
Thank you for your reply sir. I have sent you the letter to office[at] explaining the institutional harassment taking place at
@SouthAsianUni
. I kindly request your intervention to resolve the ongoing crisis in our university.
All the eight SAARC countries contribute financially to the functioning of the university. But a bulk of the amount is being diverted to the Indian Dvija castes' pockets as they dominate the institution. (9/10)
There is no parallel like SAU in history where a mechanism is put in place to appropriate taxpayers' money from the SAARC countries to benefit the Dvija castes. Unfortunately, there are no accountability mechanisms to know what's happening in SAU, let alone challenge it. (10/10)
The Committee constituted by South Asian University to expel/suspend students and professors. The Committee of “Chaturvedi, Majumdar, Sharma, Sinha, Tripathy”.
The
@OxIndiaCentre
, based at
@SomervilleOx
, has awarded me the Ratanshaw Bomanji Zaiwalla Scholarship to pursue MPhil in Law. The exact value of the scholarship is yet to be confirmed, but it is a partial scholarship which will amount to at least £25,000. (2/4)
Myself and
@umeshJoshi8
were arbitrarily expelled from the
@SouthAsianUni
without due process - once again - by the dictatorial SAU administration for demanding justice - along with 70+ students - to our friend still admitted in ICU because of institutional violence.
#SAU
The scholarship amount almost covers the tuition fee of £26,450. However, for living expenses and other expenses like the visa cost, immigration health surcharge, airfare which would come to around £19,518 or INR 20,08,792, I reach out to you for help. (3/4)

The SAU, conceived for a good purpose, has become a medium for the Dvija castes to make a fortune. Even the salaries of the Presidents and Prime Ministers of the SAARC Countries cannot match that of the SAU teachers. (7/10)

The Basic salary for a Professor is US$ 30,000 to 45,000 per annum (excluding Dearness Allowance, HRA and other allowances). Only god knows how much the SAU President's salary is! It would be at least ten lakhs per month. (8/10)

Earlier, the SAU administration arbitrarily expelled four students, including me. The current SAU administration is hell-bent on destroying academic freedom and democracy on the university campus. (2/2)

Dear Lawyers,
Can a state (Tamil Nadu, for example) police file an FIR against the PM under sections 295A and 153A for his hate speech against Muslims?
Is there any legal hurdle to do this?
“Delhi High Court quashes South Asian University order to expel student, says ‘decision cannot sustain scrutiny of law’”

An appeal to all Dalit students who are fighting caste-discrimination in the universities
DON'T fight alone
DON'T fight impulsively
PlZ safeguard your life, reputation and career first
DON'T FORGET to fight with collective force.
personal costs are too high, I still am paying.

does not follow reservation or any affirmative action policy. It had only 2 students from the Dalit community. Now they’ve expelled one without any inquiry. The institution’s name can be changed to ‘Savarna Asian University.’

If Hindu Raj does become a fact, it will, no doubt be the greatest calamity for this country. No matter what the Hindus say, Hinduism is a menace to liberty, equality and fraternity. It is incompatible with democracy. Hindu Raj must be prevented at any cost.

“The professors from Bangladesh also wrote that SAU, which was built with the aim of promoting academia in the SAARC had now become “a source of dismay and anxiety in regional academia”
This declaration is discrimination against students suffering from physical/mental illness. Instead of providing reasonable accommodation, the SAU shuts its door to persons suffering from physical/mental illness. (2/3)
“The demands raised by the student movement regarding the increase in scholarships and student membership in anti-harassment committees are yet to be fulfilled.”
Delhi High Court overturned the South Asian University's November 2022 decision to expel two PhD students, Umesh Joshi and Bhim Raj. The students were expelled for their involvement in a protest demanding a stipend hike in 2020.

This police vehicle bearing registration number TN 01 G 9040 was parked in the middle of the road in Shanthi Colony, Anna Nagar, blocking the way for other vehicles for a long time. The police officer was buying something from the roadside shop.
This is painful to read. I know several Dalit students who couldn’t study abroad despite receiving offers due to financial difficulties.
