I tried to synthesize a dense jungle/forest ambience without listening to any reference samples. So its basically just a bunch of made up animal & insect noises

#phaseplant
preset : Expressive clarinet
Full smooth dynamic range with vibrato, legato, staccato, slides and growl.
Created with wavetable synthesis + noise. 1.6 mb total :)
Female soprano singer in
#phaseplant
i created yesterday. I used my own voice as reference and somehow this is the result :D I think its sounds very promising already!
Crunchy snow foley in
#phaseplant
. Each note/key creates a fragment of snow being crunched. So you essentially shape/perform each step by "walking" on the keyboard with your hands
#sounddesign
Yamaha R1 motorcycle startup inside of a garage. Simulated in
#phaseplant
without samples. It still has some tweaks before its ridable, but it does work pretty well for just revving.
#sounddesign
#crotchrocket
Bassoon in
#phaseplant
. I think I have cracked the code on how to create realistic acoustic instruments with a wavetable only. My biggest break through yet for sure 🥳. Most complicated as well
Ocarina preset for
#phaseplant
To keep it interesting its joined by almost all of my other instruments + a guitar that is yet to be released.
Available on my gumroad
Pizzicato strings 2.0.
I did this back in february. It could probably be improved by using the granular generator instead of just noise.

Human singing take 2! This one is a bit softer and less expressive than the last one, but is sounds a lot cleaner for sure. Still no vowel change, will try that in the next version
#phaseplant
Old DIY race car engine. Will try and import this into an unreal engine project I’m working on. The gear whine might not be for everyone :) The exhaust note is on point though
#phaseplant

Drum kit 🥁 synthesized with
#phaseplant
without using any samples! It is a WIP, so it only has a bass drum, hi-hat, snare, cowbell, drumsticks and a pretty crappy crash cymbal so far

@kilohearts
Mechanical Typewriter patch I made a while back. Pretty much feels like a real typewriter if you play it on weighted keys :)
I had to improvise a bit with the rewind mechanism, as I ran out of space at the end
#phaseplant
#sounddesign
Some kind of French horn/tuba in
#phaseplant
. I couldnt find a good tune to showcase it with, so I just fiddled around. Velocity controls soft/hard note and the dynamics knob controls the loudness.
Staccato knob for forced short notes, but itsnt really needed.
#sounddesign
A demonstration of different types of engines, all synthesized in one
#metasound
patch.
Except for that gear whine on the inline 4, the only difference between them is the amount of cylinders and the firing order
#UnrealEngine5
I went completely overboard and created 7 instruments without samples. Glockenspiel, celeste, pizzicato strings, flutes, light string section, bass drum and a shaker 😅
Enjoy my mysterious little tune I put together with said instruments

#sounddesign
I’v made water in previous projects ( the jungle and rain/thunder), but only as background noise so far. Might be interesting to hear it on its own

Now that the new predator movie is out, it feels like a good time to try and replicate one of their iconic sound effects. This is my take on the ‘predator heat vision’ in

French horn preset for
#phaseplant
📯
Same articulations as before : legato, staccato, rips, flutter, vibrato and trills. All performed with no key switches (except for chords). 2.4 MB
Available on my gumroad. Link in my profile
My first phase plant preset bank:
Music boxes & bells 🎵🎶
2 musicboxes, glockenspiel, glasses, metallophone, kalimba, xylophone, and music box ratchet.
Each instrument has a granular patch for creating shimmering textures/effects.

working on porting the motorcycle patch to unreal engine metasounds. its a WIP, so it sounds a bit dry and it has no throttle control yet. But its getting there
#metasounds
#UnrealEngine5
ported my last car engine ( with a turbo! ) to unreal and built a simple sandbox car game to showcase it. Its a complete mess, but it'll work for testing out new engines
#UnrealEngine5
#metasounds
Motorcycle update. Added throttle control and a simple blueprint to control it with a gamepad. Next up is adding a flywheel with physics, a real torque curve, a gearbox and a clutch.
#unrealengine5

Its been a while. Gonna try and practice some sound design this months with
#marchtsound
challenge at airwiggles.
This is day 6; electric vehicle. The engine sound consists of synth sounds only (
#phaseplant
obviously)
This is interesting. If I duplicate the bassoon wavetable, phase shift it 180 degrees and invert that signal, it becomes a bass clarinet. The waveforms are exactly the same 🤯
I tried to emulate a french horn and i think I have invented a new instrument. It sounds kind of like a french horn but it has the same range as a piano :). It goes from Tuba - > horn -> trumpet-ish -> woodwind
learning a lot about wavetables from trying to model real instruments. damn its really powerful. I'v already created a glockenspiel, celeste and pizzicato string by basically just drawing the harmonics out. next one up is a picolo flute!
I'v been working on porting all of these instruments to Kontakt, for those of you who are interested. Its a very slow process because of kontakts absolutely horrible scripting language
Since its wavetable, its very efficient, with similar cpu usage as sample based instruments. But with most advantages of a synth ( sliding notes, adjustable vibrato etc)
Have you ever wanted to make Phase Plant sound exactly like a motorbike? Joel Blanco Berg (
@lydoel
) did and we recently got a chance to ask him why... along with a few other things.
Check out our new interview with Joel the Sound Design Wizard!
I made 9 different presets for this one. Indoor footsteps, plastic light switch, fluorescent lamp ignite +buzz, tooth brush, water tap on/off, pipe bang ( when closing a valve), water splash/foam and a simple noise floor
Promising performance results from the kontakt port I'm working on.
This is the flute patch. Its probably 90% there, so it shouldnt get that much higher when its done.
3.2MB! memory
0.22% CPU in Reapers performance meter while spamming legato notes
Added some synth sounds to this lovely animation by
@aweyenberg
. I couldnt get the audio to loop seamlessly on twitter, so I looped the animation 3 times
This might be my best one yet imo. I'm especially proud of the legato considering the limitations synths have when it comes to that.
You either have glide & retrigger, so you have to get creative with what you got
Iv started creating a realistic drumset and I'm surprised at how good it can perform snare rolls. Something thats not really possible when using samples
It's Phase Plant's Fifth Anniversary! 🥳

Created some sounds with
#phaseplant
for this animation by
@JesseMiettinen
. No samples, just synths 🙄
starter motor, truck engine, servo motors and some other misc stuff
I should add that this is not rendered in real time. It is one phase plant preset that generate water droplets. Those are then bounced into multiple layers with some light eq and added white noise to fill out the space.
Just a bought a trumpet to use for reference for a coming brass update 😅
My hope is that it will be much easier to get a grasp of how a brass instrument behaves, instead of listening to random samples taken from youtube
Any suggestions for which instruments I should try and tackle next? I already have a substantial list to work through, but it would be interesting to see what you all are most interested in.
Post them below and give your favourites a like
It sounds kind of weird from time to time on the note transition. It is a synth after all and there is no good way of doing legato notes, but it still sounds remarkably close to a real brass instrument I think
This one was pretty hard to create mentally, as I have severe phobia of wasps :D. Only two patches were made. The wasp/bee and the camera glass collision
I had to make some shortcuts because I was running out of slots, so there is room for improvement.
I'm planning on releasing these types of instruments as kontakt instruments as well, those will likely have more realistic legato transitions etc
rainy day by
@_karudo
with added sounds.
All sounds are synthesized with
#phaseplant
.
rain noise, rain drops on concrete/umbrella, foot steps, fire+crackle, cars and some wind were created
I was planning on releasing the brass 2.0 instruments last week, but I just continue to find new stuff that needs to be fixed. Its a never ending todo list
