TLDR: this is a strategic maintenance day. calculate your tdee (maintenance calories) and eat *up to* that number in a way that feels like binging. mix in foods you legit wanna binge on and lowcal alternatives. i phrase it as “scratching the itch without actually doing it”

- examples (using myself): my binge trigger foods are chocolate bars, potato chips, cookies, tortilla wraps/bread, and ice cream. instead i buy cereal bars, baby food puff chips and disk cookies, nori sheets (unbelievably work well as wraps), rice cakes and lowcal ice cream

step one: plan ahead - if possible, do not keep binge trigger foods in the house. do not keep foods that you know you’re likely to eat in excess or that having one will make you want to eat more - instead, find lower calorie alternatives to keep around

also, if you feel too close to actually binging doing this may backfire into a real binge. id suggest doing this earlier on. lets say an urge won’t go away for multiple days, plan ahead to do this. do not just “spur of the moment” do this as it could derail into a real binge

@ararexia id read somewhere about treating the urge to binge like a child throwing a tantrum. if you give in when a child throws a tantrum they’ll know to do it again in the future. you have to not give into the urge and gradually with time the intensity of it will lessen

eat low cal and normally throughout the day - don’t fast in preparation. save the fake binge for whatever time of the day you experience the height of the urges. i recommend doing this late at night so you can go to bed straight after and not risk it escalating into a real binge

id suggest gathering everything beforehand so you don’t risk going to get more things afterwards. once the fake binge is over you’ll feel very full, possibly guilty. let yourself feel that. this needs to feel realistic.

if you can, go to bed straight after to reduce the chance of actually binging. if done correctly, you should have satisfied the urge to binge, your cravings, feel extremely full and most likely guilty but you will not have gone over your maintenance calories

this is why any swaps that won’t unsatisfy you (fiber one brownies instead of regular ones) are crucial so you can increase the volume - make sure there is A LOT of food in front of you, enough to make you really really full.

go back to normal the next day. do not weigh yourself! considering you ate a super high volume meal of mainly processed food, you’ll need a few days for the food weight to go away. that’s fine! you ate maintenance instead of a 3K+ calorie binge.

DUDE ive been using the same cal tracking app for so long and i went to see my insights to see how much protein i consume on average and there was this one day forever ago where i’d eaten 250+grams of protein and i was like HOW TF DID I DO THAT anw turns out id binged 8K cals 💀

ok ive whitened my teeth, cleared my skin, groomed my eyebrows, fixed my hair, manicured my nails and im losing weight. only thing left (besides the rest of the weight to fall off) is to stop picking at my cuticles cause there’s no point having nice nails if they have ugly frames

i’m aware this doesn’t fully replicate a real binge. i used to eat up to 10K cals in a binge. but this does work for me to prevent that from ever happening again and as long as i use it sparingly it doesn’t affect my weight loss progress

convince yourself it was a real binge. for me this helps to prevent a real cycle beginning. the guilt makes it more realistic for me and so does the extreme fullness. but if you struggle with purging everytime after a binge i wanna note this may trigger the urge to purge!
