There is a level of unseriousness about our housing crisis I cannot comprehend in Ann Arbor. Along 4 bus lines that reach all over the county and proposed zoning that would be less FAR than TC-1, all electric, limited parking and it couldn’t get approved. Why are we even trying?

Since the beginning of 2021, 75% of housing projects in Ann Arbor have been approved through PUD or additional zoning conditions. Only 25% have been approved by-right. We have a resistance to change and a constant moving of goal posts when projects try to create more housing.

There were concerns that the rezoning is not tied to the sustainable elements of the project. TC-1 has no additional sustainability requirements and has been batched zones in places with less bus service next to the parcel.

Presented @synecdochedesig project in Ann Arbor today for @MassTimberAtMSU with 2021 building code, 8 stories exposed mass timber for 250 units + commercial space all electric building. In the approvals process now!
