I’m going to leave it at this: If you were so adamant that Power Rangers has to get rid of its roots in order to be successful, then you should have never bought it. You’d have more success creating new competition. Which should have happened. We could’ve avoided this mess.

I love Power Rangers and I love Super Sentai. There's aspects that one does better than the other in each of them. To put the blame of Power Rangers' failure solely on Super Sentai is the easy way out. It shows no critical thinking on the subject.

You tell me which one is better executed. Power Rangers version or the “laughed at” Ryusoulger version. It’s not Sentai holding Power Rangers back. It’s Power Rangers holding itself back through its writing.

It has worked for close to 50 years in its home country. 30 here. If people can buy into a franchise in which bathrobe-clad geriatrics swing laser swords at one another (and also features rubber monsters), they can very well buy into Toku. It’s all about how it’s approached.

Opinion: If this is what we can expect from purely Hasbro-designed suits, boy are we in trouble. The main component missing here is that there’s a subtlety missing in the overall motif they represent. Looking at a typical suit, you can tell why certain design choices were made.

"Power Rangers is for kids." So is Marvel. So is DC. So is Star Wars. So is Transformers. So is Disney. Etc. It's not Sesame Street or Blue's Clues or Barney. It's a brand that has broad appeal just like the formerly mentioned big brands. Let's stop making this excuse.

@primegundam Going to be completely honest. I have had this same exact thought for quite some time. It has been said that production “laughed” at Sentai footage when they first saw it. If they take that approach when watching the material they’re adapting, it’s already on the wrong foot.

There’s so many amazing and inspiring #WomenInPowerRangers that it’s extremely difficult to pick any one over the other. My favorite will always be Astronema/Karone because I’m a sucker for a redemption arc. Every single Ranger is awesome in their own way though. 1/2

I don’t think I ever shared this on Twitter, but Click was making the coin here back in 2015. I bought the coin and then had the plates chromed from a user on @Rangerboard . Bought the custom labels from @BD15Decals . It was made from a Legacy Morpher (Tommy version).

Taka is on point with this topic. US heroes aren’t better than Toku heroes. It’s more that the US audience tends to be ignorant about the craft involved with Toku. Bigger budget doesn’t always equal good. What can be accomplished with a smaller budget is often more impressive.

@marcallie @primegundam Yes, some of it is meant to be silly. There are jokes in Sentai. The problem is when the entire concept is seen as silly because of spandex-clad heroes fighting rubber-suited monsters. Sentai tries to sell that as realistically as they can. That isn’t the silly part.

I’m going to point out something: he doesn’t say he laughed. He says there was laughter. Meaning it wasn’t him doing the laughing. There was groupwide laughter. I think that points to Hasbro since they’re so adamant about moving away from Sentai.
