Since the 1400s people have been playing around with the idea of various demons being representations of “deadly sins”. There are hundreds of depictions and they get WILD! So if you have your own design concept for a Sin you can just…go ahead and draw that

@Coelasquid Someone made a more symmetrical and flip-friendly edit and that cat instantly lost a good 25% of its personality and charm. It’s fine for a drawing to be ‘imperfect’ on a technical level if you’ve captured an energy.

A lot of the popularised demonology design ideas you see floating around come from the more recent 19th century book, The Dictionnaire Infernal, illustrated in its last edition by Louis Le Breton (who took a break from drawing endless sail ships to design a ton of sick demons!)

So there’s no fixed canon when it comes to demonology. It’s a fluid collection of concepts built on over centuries by various religions, fiction writers and scholars. There is no “supposed to look like” or “wrong” interpretation for these guys only a big pot of ideas to draw from

@spikermonster Their point of reference goes back as far as like 2010! Turning Red is so obviously influenced by 90s anime like Ranma 1/2 and Sailor Moon. They even utilise the anime style cut-away frames, like sweat drops and the screen cracking, to give a visual form to her internal emotions.
