unfortunately, this line of deduction is inaccurate. here is a better explanation of the phrase “推杯换盅” by a native speaker (1) which is actually taken from a common chinese idiom “推杯换盏”.

it was moreso because the HCQ were highly respectable ppl but 3 would be doing terrible things because of one person. in particular, dan feng was branded selfish since he tried to save baiheng at the cost of many lives. this goes against chinese principles hence the backlash.
