Throughout the entire history of humanity, people have laughed at very difficult, sensitive, dark topics. Many of us use humor to cope with things or to provide a little bit of light in very dark times.
Hi
@cruise
how is your car programmed to enter the intersection without being sure there is space to clear the light cycle? Crazy. You should be better than this.
Fremont @ Mission ~4:50pm today. Illegal action, car froze and blocked an entire light cycle on Mission. Do better.
Just another day in the city. On my bike ride home, noticed this crash on Valencia - northbound, just north of 16th. Hopefully nobody was in this parklet or biking in the UNPROTECTED bike lane here. It's WAY past time for protected infrastructure on Valencia, or NO CARS AT ALL.
@JDoucette2050
Oh god, you're serious with this? You and
@VancouverPD
should focus on your actual jobs of protecting vulnerable people from traffic violence instead of worrying about dangerous car throughput. So regressive and archaic. You're a huge part of the problem.
@StokkScammer
@cbrewsayso
Not only are both of these activities acceptable, but he was shot and killed shortly after he sent this tweet. Go fuck yourself.
@elaifresh
@SafeStreetRebel
Every pedestrian and cyclist should carry an "everything brick" (or ten) for the countless times that car drivers endanger us every day.
@bottomofthehill
Truly ludicrous. Many businesses thrive with new bike infrastructure because they adapt. If you fail to adapt, you deserve to close down. This is completely in your power. And there is LOTS of parking nearby you anyway. You're absolutely exaggerating.
Cop was telling the family to wait before all cars pass through the intersection before crossing.
Fuck. No.
Fuck you
@SFPD
. Do your jobs and ticket drivers for running lights, constantly blocking intersections - especially 1st between Minna & Natoma, and speeding aggressively.
@SLHDC
I don't often see bike friends dunking on just anyone who drives, but more typically on drivers who (irrationally/strongly) defend their choice to drive, participate in the litany of bad excuses and anti-bicycle nonsense, and/or criticize us alternative transportation advocates.
A scene all too familiar in San Francisco. I walked past the scene after the incident, but a CHILD was loaded into an ambulance with injuries. It seemed from conversations on-scene that a driver likely hit the child by running a red light.
Fuck drivers and
@SFPD
- here's why...
@bottomofthehill
is playing the victim but they appear to be clueless that many of their patrons (intelligently) ride bikes to their venue. Not only are they pushing these paying customers away, but they're advocating for endangering them as well. What a bad position to take.
Ridiculous. Many businesses adapt and THRIVE with new bike infrastructure. They can too. They deserve to close if they're so stubborn and resistant to change that they fail to adapt like countless other places have done everywhere. There's never a guarantee of business.
@magiere25
@ScientistSwanda
@stillgray
Of all the things you're wrong about in this single tweet, you act like no work went into the vaccine at all... Further, "big pharma" is essentially a baseless conspiracy theory not rooted in reality or common sense.
@scottmace2
@jeffreytumlin
Does it matter? Surely to achieve our goals we'll see increased traffic congestion on other streets. But if people are smart, they'll stop using private cars (and contributing to traffic) eventually. Small price to pay.
@DrScottSampson
@calacademy
The ratio here is very telling. I'm surprised that a leader of such a large science-focused organization has such clear trouble reading the room. Not only this, but also failing to address or even really acknowledge the glaring hypocrisy of your problematic position.
@HenryBPhoto
@Masudaliii
@ChipotleTweets
Come on, people. In a time still full of ACTUAL racism, step back for a second and consider the obvious history of these "men" pulling this stunt before. With this context, the manager and all staff were spot-on. Of course you won't get that from the video. Idiocy.
@Waymo
@burritojustice
Like, shouldn't you have "learned" to comply with some of the most basic rules of the road before wreaking havoc on our streets with this illegal and unsafe action? This should be a baseline, NOT something you need to "improve" on.
@Uber
and
@lyft
must take action now. Immediately restrict ALL pick-ups AND drop-offs along Valencia St and ALL other streets in SF with bike lanes. It's your duty. Otherwise, you're complicit (maybe even responsible) in causing countless injuries and sometimes even deaths...
@realDonaldTrump
I'm guessing others have said this already, but you're so unprofessional, unrefined, and unhinged. You don't act like any leader of anything. You're the biggest laughingstock of the world, mocked by all. Political and social outcast. Get a grip. Infinitely unpresidential.
.
@SFMTA_Muni
this is your failure in both design and implementation.
@jeffreytumlin
I know you're irrationally proud of this project, but it's dangerous. You are endangering us.
At minimum, the street should be closed to cars until completely finished.
Not only is the Valencia bike lane design horrible, but the rollout has been negligent as well.
Paint put in before signals added. No alternative bike routes designated: “shared” lanes only. Beyond disappointed in SFMTA.
If pedestrians waited for cars to clear intersections, we'd never get anywhere. Instead, drivers should stop blocking intersections and speeding around to shave a few seconds off their commutes *outside* SF. Cops should ticket them, without fail...
There's just way too much dangerous, aggressive, life-threatening driving behavior all throughout downtown, every day. And the garbage, car-loving
@SFPD
do absolutely nothing about it, ever. In fact, they seem to routinely coddle drivers, even in crashes like this one...
Another day, another car-on-cyclist collision with possible injuries. Of course this is along the Embarcadero with (fake) bike "lanes" where ever-silent
@AaronPeskin
continues to do nothing to make our streets safer in his district. I wonder if and when this will ever change?
@IrvingOfFilbert
@lcwhitlock14
@Scott_Wiener
Louise is continuing her dishonest, closed-minded agenda. I do hope she and the other stubborn folks will come around and see how this is so much better for everyone - including her.
@brooklyn_darren
Sad thing is that if the police were involved, they'd probably arrest you and do absolutely nothing about the illegal sidewalk parkers
Thread ahead...
While riding my bicycle home after work this evening, I came across the scene of a car-against-bicycle collision. Of course this was on Valencia, between 15th and 16th St. JUST after the parking protected section of the bike lane ends...
@chrisarvinsf
I just realized I've been wearing my
@Bodegacats_
t-shirt all day long - under my other shirt. Photo isn't my best work, but purrfect timing to wear this shirt.
I took that picture moments ago, this evening. While biking home on 17th, noticed all the bikes out front and had to stop.
@bottomofthehill
should be requesting new bike racks AND advocating for any bike lane improvements/safe street infrastructure. Period.
@Atomic_Ferret
@LauraGMitchell
That's not what "sharing the road" means. Sharing the road ALWAYS means that car drivers yield for cyclists NO MATTER WHAT. That's it.
This is tone-deaf at best, par for the course for
@SFMTA_Muni
.
Design and implement something bad/dangerous/unintuitive and then *checks notes* make a 6 minute YouTube video to try to educate drivers instead of fixing or replacing the failed design? Yikes.
There's a new video to help people navigate the pilot design on Valencia Street: the city's 1st center-running protected bikeway, a new curb management plan & pedestrian safety upgrades. Get project updates at & find the video here:
@Waymo
@burritojustice
You can discuss it here, if you have any integrity. You say "learn more" and "improve" but what's happened in the picture should be impossible - especially since it's illegal. Who messed this up?
@Metrolinx
@not_taylorx
Absolutely terrible. There's a way to do it, and a way not to do it. Actually, there are MANY ways to do it. This is definitely not one of them. Do better.
@robin88143321
@ScientistSwanda
@Laffincrow
Then please don't participate in any part of society that involves any contact with anyone else. In my opinion, anyone who refuses a vaccine for a viral pandemic that spreads (and kills) by human contact and proximity had better isolate 100% and never get close to anyone else.
Hi
@RecParkSF
@sfoutsidelands
how is it acceptable to have so many closures to bike traffic through the park? Who made these bad decisions?
Need I remind you that SF - which you are a part of - has a Transit-First Policy. This does NOT mean prioritizing cars. You must do better.
@chrismulvey_fnp
@robin88143321
@ScientistSwanda
@Laffincrow
I fear we won't choose wisely. Too many people are prioritizing their personal choice and individual freedom instead of the clear greater public good. Classic American flaw that kills people. I don't mind if you do this while truly 100% isolated, but almost nobody is.
Bottom line - we clearly need a fully protected bike lane along the ENTIRE length of Valencia. None of these piecemeal projects. We need to hold
@Uber
and
@lyft
accountable, along with our city officials like
@sfmta_muni
and
@LondonBreed
. Stop putting parking over people! Now...
@abc7newsbayarea
Honestly the way you (
@abc7newsbayarea
) and
@Luzpenatv
handled this is bad reporting and tone-deaf to say the least. The person you interviewed caused Tess's death by failing in her duty to follow CVC. You have a duty to let the public know who she is and hold her accountable.
@psidwell
@eikonos
@TorontoStar
@TOStarfixer
I'm all for pedestrian safety - even above cyclist safety in a sense - since people walking are more/most vulnerable. And I can relate to your experience. But please consider that fast bikes make you FEEL bad while car drivers actually KILL people. Don't forget this.
The collision was caused by an Uber/Lyft driver stopped illegally in the bike lane here, and also by a driver going the opposite direction suddenly attempting a U-turn and hitting the cyclist. This is all too common, here in SF. Drivers illegally stop in this lane constantly...
@openthegreathwy
@D4GordonMar
@conniechansf
The "Critical Mass militants" enabled great change in the city's approach towards cyclists and eventually infrastructure improvements. Usually people have good reasons for acting out. Activism often happens for good reason. The thing about co-existing is a straw man...
@openthegreathwy
@D4GordonMar
@conniechansf
The problem is that your version of "coexistence" still treats cyclists as sub-par/inferior. You want privilege and entitlement to drive (and park) without any disruption or inconvenience on 100% of city streets, 100% of the time. Completely unreasonable.
@Kimberly_in_FL
@LifeLock
@Vegan_for_them
Exactly. This is a typical canned cop-out. It doesn't even matter whether or not you offended anyone, or what your intent was. You should know better.
Our city officials must also take action NOW.
@sfmta_muni
and
@LondonBreed
and all others - you also have a duty to tell Uber and Lyft their drivers can't stop in any bike lane. You need to enforce! Including commuting hours when it's most egregious and dangerous...
And to elaborate on my point about the cops coddling drivers... I'm sure they'll do nothing. They said some BS to the victim's family about checking cameras, but I doubt they'll do that. They're lazy and don't care. And I doubt they'll even cite the driver...
Cool. Nice photo op.
Now one of them (
@LondonBreed
) should start actually doing *anything* for cycling infrastructure and safe streets in San Francisco. Instead, she's nearly always silent on this, and nearly always gives in to car drivers on everything.
Do. Something. Already.
.
@SFPD
cop was interviewing a guy who seemed to be the driver who hit the kid. Driver was saying the kid ran into his mirror. I call bullshit. I've seen how drivers like him act at this intersection especially - MUCH more likely that this driver was in the wrong...
@trllang
@united
Implied here is that you wanted someone else other than you to de-escalate YOUR own aggression... Check yourself. Own your own behavior. Be accountable. Important life lesson.
I'm pissed. At drivers, at our police who do nothing, at our city leaders who don't take this seriously.
Random SF visitors/tourists - I sincerely apologize that our car-obsessed city and its toxic culture led to your child's injuries today.
SF streets fucking suck.
This was at 1st & Natoma. Seemed that the child was likely hit in the crosswalk. Child belonged to a family of tourists, including a younger child who was shaken up/traumatized. Responding
@SFPD
were the worst - basically lecturing the family about waiting before crossing...
@SFFDPIO
What are you even talking about? Are you just lying? You approved this (bad) design. What, you haven't planned or practiced for how to deal with newer infrastructure? Disgraceful.
They were discussing whether or not to cite the CYCLIST who was hit. I couldn't believe it. Then I remembered that SFPD is notoriously, extremely biased towards car drivers. I think they've made that clear historically. So much for keeping us safe...
Cute! When I saw this, I immediately thought of
@corvidresearch
@corvidlove
@kris0723
and
@crow_artist
but you've probably all seen it already. I'm pretty new to crows here on Twitter though. Who else should I be following?
