I believe Deicy’s character is a reflection of what Shu believes himself to be versus the actuality of who he is. A reason Mika has stayed by Shu for so long is by not assigning him responsibility for his words and actions. This was not the Shu he knew as a child, (cont.)

I believe it changed during nursery era. When he got to take care of a broken and vulnerable Shu, when he became necessary in the relationship. Alternatively, it was always his emotion from the beginning when they met as children, clouded by his own self degradation.

A very important aspect of Shu’s character is rejection. From his family and peers, from those around him. Though there are many characters who do accept Mademoiselle, Tsumugi and Kuros rejection of her I feel are necessary to understanding why Mika is so important to Shu.

Mika is able to dismantle what Shu wants to be, the harsh, controlling and dominant act he maintained during Ex-Valkyrie, and expose his soft underbelly. It took so much effort, as Shu does so much to hide it, that side of him causing so much pain from being rejected.

Tsumugi also maintains the belief that Mademoiselle is a childish coping mechanism, one that Shu needs to rid himself of in order to properly grow up, similar to how Lao encourages Deicy to eat Hansel. It’s not out of malice or wanting Deicy to be worse, it’s the opposite.

I think early Mika would have trouble seeing his own emotions as romantic, regardless of if they are or not. Even in his own mind, he can't place himself on the same level as Shu, so he can't let himself look at or pursue Shu romantically.

I like that Mademoiselle is not really sex repulsed in the way Shu is. He’s very intent on preserving her innocence, but she very lightly pushes back against it. Summer Girl is one of my favorite Mademoiselle stories, I always enjoy seeing where mdsh differ in beliefs.

The idea of 'i know what's best for Oshi San' is one I wanted Mika to take on more and more as time progresses but he kind of dropped that aspect after Shu's recovery... Which I find disappointing .. I need anxious helicopter Mika who thinks Shu is a delicate little flower.

Mika wants to be useful to Shu, and when he finds that use, when he becomes 'necessary' in their relationship is when I think he could look past the pedestal he places Shu on and let himself love Shu romantically.

Shu as the consumer could easily be against my preferences but no! It’s perfect! Shu is the taker in the relationship, as Mika offers up every part of himself. But Mika is always the initiator! He is the one that pushes for it… pushes Shu towards giving into his desires…
