Sixteen years ago this week, Mississippi State was preparing to open the season with a trip to play the Oregon Ducks. Oregon was coming off a top-5 finish and had just expanded their stadium. We were trying to bounce back from a 3-8 season.

When I was at State, we had a sports psychologist who would take us through a meditative exercise after the pregame meal. They would turn off the lights, you'd close your eyes, focus on your breathing, etc. It was an excellent way to get relaxed and centered before losing to UAB.

Last season, against a worse UK team, we threw 6 interceptions and got shut out. This year, Rogers only throws 3 *incompletions* and we blow them off the field. We still have our issues, but this team has improved dramatically.

Only a few minutes before we left the locker room, we were told we would take part in holding the flag. It was absolutely surreal, total silence in the stadium. Just a football game, but in that moment it felt like we were part of something very important.
