A deacon at a church across the street says his pastor offered free housing to the homeless campers near the courthouse in Burien and even help finding jobs, but they had to stay clean and sober. I'm told the pastor got turned down. Live on KOMO-TV at 6pm

City of Burien is literally having a nonprofit animal shelter hire private security to do a sweep of a homeless encampment to create a dog park so that downtown will look nice in time for Pride. It sounds like a headline from @TheNeedling but alas it’s real 🙃

This is SUCH nonsense. Mayor Aragon knows we have not defunded our police (it's more than 50% of Burien's entire budget!) and this isn't even a dog whistle it's an open appeal to the right. Worse, it's spreading information she knows to be false. We need better from our leaders!

Dude if you think giving people water during a heat wave is “enabling” I feel sorry for you. For what it’s worth the people I’ve talked to all come from Burien but it doesn’t matter to me- I was a Burien resident the day I moved here and so are they.

Love this. The @PortofSeattle is letting @burien know that the NERA site the Deputy Mayor proposed exploring as a possible site for an encampment is unsafe for human habitation. Which we all knew. So why did Kevin Schilling propose it instead of the Toyota lot?

And to be clear: this is in no way a critique of LEAD or the service providers who are working so hard to serve our unhoused community. They are informing the council accurately about their work. My issue is with elected officials who lie repeatedly about this like Schilling has.

Our friends at the Ambaum camp were swept today and Burien is officially enforcing the daytime camping ban. Sunnydale village is taking in as many of the displaced as they possibly can, but we need volunteers!

This lie is a critical part of the justification for Burien's continued sweeps of our unhoused. Both Kevin Schilling and Stephanie Mora have repeated the lie that everyone has been offered shelter from the dias. Neither has taken any steps to correct the record.

If a Burien hadn’t incorporated the unhoused would have been able to access these resources. Anyway thank you @kcexec for trying. This was our city leaders failing to help those most in need when being presented with the resources to do so, and it’s embarrassing.

There are some days I feel really hopeless. And friends, we might be in for a really sad Election Day. But I know in my heart that my candidates are pushing policy they believe in, not saying what they hope will get them votes.
