Custom synth character commission for
@Tharisx
, who had the patience of a saint waiting for my lazy ass to finish it. First time doing one of these, pls no bulli
(Original species created by @/VaderSan)
I love my boi Rigel but he was suffering from a lack of familiarity with this 3D art thing when I made him.
Wanting to get him working on Blender, I decided to use this chance to perform a full rework using the experience gained. So here's Rigel v2.0:
Jumping on this Toxtricity bandwagon to learn a bunch of Blender basics and also because reasons so here's 2 bois. Proper-ish rig this time around which I'm very happy about, easier to pose.
Also dynamaxed because that's a thing (+ effect-less render that I had to do anyways).
Long overdue commission for
@ThickGreenFluff
, to whom I'm grateful for trusting me with his OC and being extremely patient with me. Couldn't have asked for a better first client, thank you so much.
(Also a little scene wherein he big 'cuz topical)
Why do a nice, simple and quick spinning turntable to show off a model when, instead, you can struggle trying to make something more convoluted than its makeshift rigging supports?
Commission for Kenson on FA () of 2th, his Anjanath character.
Thanks for being super understanding, patient and giving me the chance to do MonHun content, haha.
Extra renders to try making up for the unreasonably long wait.
When you just want to practice a birb head sculpt and accidentally the whole birb 😔
Almost forgot I had this one from a few days ago, honestly -very- tempted to clean it up and turn it into a functional model.
I've been working on this lad in-between commissions and it's finally done. Wanted a "summon" character for a long time and settled on one of my fave bahamut aesthetics because, well, why not? His name is Antares to keep (start?) with the theme :^)
Did
@kclt10
's kaiju rabbit boi because I wanted to try rendering some hair/fur and I guess I should share the results of this attempt? Massive props to him for not only letting me use the character but also giving fantastic feedback and putting up with my shit for way too long
Commission for
@blu3scale
of his wasp character, Otto, rigged and poseable for rendering in Blender. Super pleasant to work with AND I got to make a buggo 👀
Commissioned model for
@Kurrikage
Previously I had doodled a couple parts but now it's the full deal, with a basic rig. Thanks for being both a good friend and an understanding client.
Did a commission for
@Apmotheosis
featuring a certain totally not overpowered moth and had a lot of fun with it. Thanks for everything, including the chance to model more buggos 👀
One last practice head sculpt before the year is over, textured and rendered.
It's a boss (Ellmac) from La-Mulana, a game that I love but is absolutely niche and which I might have convinced some friends to play for fun/suffering. Tagging
@astrobelisk
for no reason :^)
Figured I could upload this and show some signs of life. This is a quick model to test a different renderer + displacement maps. Seems to work, unlike particles on my potato pc (as shown, haha).
Character's from Disgaea 1 and if you've played it you know exactly why I picked him
Was told to try doing a moose so here's a doodle of
@Neopuc
's Isaac for fun and practice. Thank you very much for allowing me to use your characters/refs.
@SixSydes
graciously let me post this model I made a while ago of his character.
Cleaned it up a bit, but it's older than anything else I've uploaded and has some core issues I can't fix without fully remaking. But friends keep telling me to post these so, uh, here it goes.
@buckdasystem
Hello! I tried my hand at your cute kaiju bug character, Zoe. She's got a cool design and was a lot of fun to make. Please excuse the amateurish mistakes, it's a learning process and I'm just starting here!
Took a break today from comm work to chill with a quick sculpt and I'm blaming this on friends talking about graboids a couple days ago
Disclaimer: I have never seen any of these movies
Anyway here's a practice sculpt made yesterday to get back into this stuff.
...might develop into a full character when I'm not doing comms because I like this monhun lad...
Don't get to do mammal-ish characters too often so here's another quickie, this time featuring
@astrobelisk
's behemoth Rowen. As usual, many thanks for letting me sculpt your OC!
Spending hours to make a simple arm movement not look like a -complete- disaster gives me renewed admiration for those that want to do animation professionally ⚰️
- Design a decent looking lizard monster
- Realise there's a bike theme so haphazardly stick 2 massive wheels in the model, clipping like it's a gmod prop
- Don't even use them, Flintstones style
???
Alright, I've closed the form. Response has been -unexpectedly- high and I want to thank everyone that was interested, as well as those that helped spread the announcement post. It means a lot to me.
Ecstatic that people like the new lad, got obsessed with finishing him the past couple weeks after he'd been sitting unfinished for months.
I could post WIP shots to be more active but things look terrible until the very end😔
I've contacted and confirmed all slots for this current batch, apologies to those that didn't get in. If I can finish in a relatively short amount of time (or if people cancel) I will be picking more.
Thanks to everyone, sucks not being able to handle all entries 😔
The "open almost finished model file" -> "I'll just retouch this part real quick"-> "looks better, guess I'm doing this for the whole thing" -> "might as well rework the topology+UVs to match while at it" pipeline still working as intended 🥴
PSA due to recent events, but I put a lot of work into designing Rigel and making him unique enough, which also makes character theft pretty evident. Taking that design, making minor edits and "claiming" it behind my back is a pretty damn shitty (and dumb) move.
Real talk re: comms, since I get asked sometimes - planning to open a couple slots soon. Been delaying because of a couple factors: making sure I've fulfilled previous obligations and revising prices.
I really need to do a better job of keeping up with friends but socializing is hard and I'm boring so I only end up bothering them for feedback on whatever I'm working on at the time, if that.
Definitely not me picking the most obscure DQ dragon I could find to model for fun/practice, then making an entire environment to render it in. Absolutely no feature creep here ⚰️
I hate upping rates but the full body detailed stuff takes 1-2 months and hogs all my time, so I'd have to set ~1k as a base? Else I'm better off working in other projects that can break even. Less time-consuming work (ie: busts/stylized characters) would be cheaper, obv.
This was not animation ready at all but it's ok because neither am I ⚰️
Also I'm bad at coming up with names so obscure reference will do for the party members :^)
Alright, I'm closing and revising all applications. Response has been, uh, much larger than expected. Wish I could pick all but I can't focus on more than 2 at a time due to complexity.
I'm very grateful for all the support, both applications and signal boosting. Thank you ;_;
Every day I'm like "today I'll be social and interact with people as soon as I'm done modeling" and every day it's past 4 am and I'm still modeling and I just wanna go to bed and perish
He's the first design I made which is a big deal for someone like me that's not very creative. I encourage people to make more insect characters but stealing someone's personal OC is not the way to go about it. Why pay for something everybody will know is a ripoff anyways?
I've taken a cursory look at some of the submissions and noticed there were a few questions to which I can't properly reply on a form.
I'm 100% OK with DMs about anything that needs clarification, be it a simple check or a deal-breaker that you need to know beforehand.
Changed the tip of the digital pen, for the first time since I got the tablet years ago. Old one had eroded so much I almost couldn't get it out, oops.
There's too many entries to tackle them all, so tomorrow I'll randomly pick ~4-5 comms, send DMs and immediately start.
Could do more if I can finish in a reasonable amount of time or if some drop out, so there might be more chances for those that didn't get in at first.
You know, I expected the new pokemon game to be technically poor and with worse perf than the previous release (as it's become tradition) but not the plethora of hilarious cp2077-tier glitches.
Attempting to reuse part of a rig to save time on an experiment and in doing so finding all of my previous model setups have been made useless by an undocumented, nebulous issue, then staying up overnight trying to fix it sums up well the 3D art experience.
I've verified the people who got the comms, apologies to all that didn't get theirs picked but I don't wish to keep peeps waiting indefinitely hence limited slots.
(I'd be willing to give more weight to a repeat entry next time I open if anyone is still interested by then)
Having trouble breathing due to the heat sure puts a damper on getting anything done during the day. 40°C this week and it ain't even summer yet, fuck me
These fast sculpts have been fun and there's a couple more I'd wanna do but I really gotta get back to "serious" 3D work, ie: actually doing the boring parts :c
