Rubbish! A serving of vade (vadai) has about 6gm protein, black gram is also iron rich. The rave idli is more than 50% mosaru, dahi. And that chutney pudi/ podi is waiting to be soaked in ghee, good fat. Let me not even get into the beneficial nutrition found in the sambar…

Please don't say urad dal in Idli/Vada or dal in a bit of sambhar is protein.

Mr Venu, with due respect, you have perhaps not experienced eateries in namma Bengaluru that take great pride in their cleanliness & hygiene, as endorsed by 1000s of diners who eat here regularly. FYI, the said eatery cleans and sterilises all plates, etc.

Anand, productivity is high but there is a hygiene issue. The unclean bottom of the plate on top touches the food on the plate below. Not very healthy.

your main meal aboard UK820 this evening evoked a sense of nostalgia! That of near inedible meals served in a badly run hostel mess by indifferent cooks! Insipid flavours, the sort of texture that would indicate the chicken should have ideally been consumed hours
… with the lentils, hingu, and the various spices, and the nourishing goodness of the coconut chutney. And the probiotics in the idli. Just because one doesn’t understand a particular dietary culture doesn’t mean one should diss it.

It had been a while since I tasted one of these beauties! Manne du masala dosae by the boss! 😋 She nails it each time from the crisp crust to its soft inside to the palya and gatti chutney. And sans rivers of tuppa, something that I have mixed feelings about! 😢😃
An under-rated masala dosae this is. Wonderfully crisp tuppa roast, with just the right amount of crunch and slightly soft within. Gently flavoured palya. Also when here check if they have some of their old fashioned ‘biscuity’-textured Mysore pak. And definitely wrap things up
Malleshwaram’s iconic New Krishna Bhavan will close for ever on 6th December. 😕 Sad to record these sentiments echoed by the owners, cooks and many customers for whom NKB was an integral part of their life.

On highways we want clean restrooms, large dining rooms to relax, ample parking space, kids play area, along with good, hygienic food, quick service etc. Wouldn’t grudge them the 20-30 odd rupee premium for idli vade et al, that the eatery needs to charge to provide the services.

Delicious, vegetarian meal at Woodlands restaurant, Udupi. The fare is typical South Canara, sumptuous yet light and tasty. My picks from the thaali, the daalithove, suvarna gadde palya, sambar, rasam, well, almost everything! Had to close with a mini gudbud! 😋
A good highway coffee ☕️ hits very differently. For me, this one at Swathi Delicacy, Koppa, is perhaps one the best filter coffees to be had, on the highway or otherwise. What’s your best filter coffee spot?

Brothers Basavaraju and Shivakumar are huge fans of Dr Rajkumar and family. So much so that their 36-year-old eatery has no name board, but is simply known to locals as Rajkumar Thatte Idli hotel in Tumkur.
Having tasted chaat in a few cities, every place it’s own style and flavour nuances locals dig. It’s about what sort appeals to you, not about what’s best or worst.
Saddened 😔 to see a popular eatery that offers sustenance targeted by those who want to cause society harm. Can’t imagine the plight of those affected, one moment you’re hurriedly savouring your meal on a working day, and the next moment, life changes. Pray that those injured
They make it look so easy, a casual viewer may not realise the dosaes are piping hot, the steel plates too. It takes tremendous skill, practice and a certain technique on the part of the server to balance these without burning 🔥 one’s arm. Right
