Tomorrow, the House Education Committee will vote on a bill that addresses the ongoing teacher and support staff issue our schools have been facing for years. I’ve worked hard with @GovWhitmer , the Office of Retirement Services, and our many stakeholders on this solution. 1/

It’s become rare to see children, or any reference to children, in Michigan Democrat education photo opps. Almost like they think adults are the center of our public education system 🤷‍♀️ #MiPolitics #Education

It’s embarrassing that since March, we’ve failed to hold a single hearing on stopping the spread of COVID. YET... In three days we were able to coordinate a “hearing” with Rudy Guiliani as acting chairperson featuring re-runs of the GOP’s greatest refuted-in-court witnesses.

My wife is one of the thousands of people who has left the food service industry because of the pandemic. It had nothing to do with UIA, and everything to do with workplace safety. We can’t keep scapegoating UIA, or expecting adults to accept below living wage incomes.

As a result, nothing can pass the House unless Republicans decide they want to work with Democrats. As of right now, one side is in Lansing to work while the other is here to play games, and it’s truly disappointing. 4/4

As @UAW member & Representative @JimmieWilsonJr1 points out, they promised “Right to Work” would: ▪️help Michigan’s population grow. ▪️Raise worker’s wages. ▪️Encourage business to come & stay. 🚫10 years later, they did not, & that’s why we are repealing this failed law.

Don’t let the name fool you, “right-to-work” laws are designed to diminish workers’ collective bargaining power by making it harder to form unions. Michigan is ready to make history by becoming the first state in 60 years to repeal the anti-worker law.

The teacher and students still did the right thing. ALICE teaches us that when there’s no safe way to validate identity, assume there’s a threat on the other side of the door. Yes, this is what we teach our kids instead of passing laws that require a gun safe in the home.

The answer to gun violence is never more guns. Teachers are trained educators, not trained police officers. We work with our school resource officers to ensure safety, but we are not trained cops and are not equally prepared for the task at hand, nor should we be asked to be.
