By the age of 25 you should have:
- a drawer of useless cables and chargers for things you no longer own.
- an unhealthy dependence on coffee that cannot be undone.
- a backlog of games that terrifies you but you won’t stop adding to.
Some reasons I still get a kick out of physical copies of video games:
- Removing the plastic wrap in one slick move
- The crisp “snap” when you open and close the case
- The cover art and additional inlays and (occasional) maps
- New game smell
My “bad” gaming habits include:
- Never learning combos
- Buying new games only to add them to my never ending backlog
- Getting so side tracked by side quests I forget about the main story for weeks
Raise your hand if you’ve ever had a game sitting in your backlog for so long you’re lowkey a little intimidated to start it so you keep putting it off 🙋🏻♀️
I totally understand why gamers buy digital but personally, physical copies give me life. The box art, tearing off the plastic wrapper, breaking the seal, that click when you open a brand new case... 😍
If a gamer experiences symptoms such as:
- Failing to begin new games.
- Returning to previously completed games frequently.
- Compulsive video game shopping despite owning still sealed games.
They just might have a case of backlogitis.
This may be a very boomer take but I think it’s rude as hell to talk on your phone ignoring cashiers at checkouts, especially when they’re trying to ask you if you need a bag/receipt/cash back etc.
Do you ever get scared to reply to certain people on twitter because it seems like they already have quite an established friend group and you don’t want to look like the “weird kid” bothering people at the lunch table asking if you can sit with them? Because I really do 😬
If my partner gave me a schedule to dictate how many hours I’m allowed to play video games I would simply quit that relationship and start over with a higher level player who won’t hinder my progression.
If a gamer wants to hunt every trophy in a video game... that’s awesome. If a gamer doesn’t want to hunt every trophy in a video game... that’s also awesome. How a person chooses to game is really not your business 🤷🏻♀️
Reasons I’m looking forward to the first half of 2019:
- Resident Evil 2 Remake
- Kingdom Hearts 3
- Dead or Alive 6
- Far Cry New Dawn
- Jump Force
- Metro Exodus
- Devil May Cry 5
- The Division 2
- Sekiro
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Days Gone
- Rage 2
- Crash Team Racing
RIP to all the hours myself and fellow gamers have spent trying to decide which video game to play, therefore losing hours of potential gaming time. You will be forever missed 😭
Hackers could be doing something cool like wiping out student loan debt or granting people extra food stamps but instead they’re trying to ruin video games. Lame.
Not owning a PS5 yet *screams internally* is but a minor detail and won’t stop me preparing for the day I’m finally whole. Galactic purple will complete the trio next month 🤍
I think living with another gamer would be nice because I could text them things like “can you install dragon age inquisition for me for when I get home” and I could bring them cookies in return.
I don’t get people who watch Netflix 6+ hours a day saying video games are a waste of time. It’s not like Netflix gives you cool little achievements and trophies and unlockable content the more you watch is it? 🤭
Amazon delivery guy: Hey is your mommy or daddy in? An adult needs to sign for this.
Me: *27 years old, dressed in spongebob pajamas at 4 in the afternoon and eating a pop tart straight out the box* I am the adult.
People who say it’s stupid to get emotionally invested in video games are ridiculous. Gamers spend hundreds of hours immersed in storylines, character arcs and even movie/TV spin offs of game franchises. It would be weird not to form attachments to them IMO 👀
Adulthood is a never ending cycle of getting excited to buy video games and then being disappointed that you don’t actually have time to play those video games 😭
Nostalgic gaming things I miss:
- Looking through game manuals that used to come in the case
- Physical maps being included with the game as a regular thing
- Sharing hand written cheat sheets with friends
I don’t know if this is an ADHD thing or a me being stupid thing, but sometimes I’ll start a video, decide it’s too good a video to watch in the current moment, and then go watch a “junk” video instead until a better moment presents itself to go back to watching the other video.
So I abandoned this game to start another game and then I abandoned that game to start another game and then I abandoned that abandoned game to start another game and then—
I really hate when people ask me what my 5 year plan is. Buddy, I live my life from game release to game release. That’s about as structured as my life gets 🤷🏻♀️
Games that deserve to be revived include:
- Silent Hill
- The Dead Space Trilogy
- Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2
Games that apparently won’t be revived include:
- Silent Hill
- The Dead Space Trilogy
- Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2
me: gaming is my favorite hobby
also me: *can never decide what to play, never completes open world games, backlog so huge i’m scared of it, gets too tired to game and watches other people game instead*
How is gaming for 20 hours a week considered an addiction? That’s roughly 3 hours per day. People spend more hours than that on Netflix every night but no one is calling that an addiction 🤔

Can we leave the trend of fake pockets in women’s jeans in 2019?? Where’s ya girl supposed to put her DS?? What about my snack packs of Reeses? A travesty.
A few reasons video games are pretty neat :
- They strengthen hand eye coordination.
- They enhance problem solving skills.
- They often include team working which can improve communication skills.
- They’re ridiculously fun.
